He sounds younger on this version somehow…it’s almost like those last months of his life he was a reverse Benjamin Button, or you might say “Old Grandad” Button 😜
I imagine in my head that Ray's keys is the rain, Robby's guitar strings are lighting bolts, John's drums are the deep roars of the thunder, and Jim's voice being the wind. They all roam across the sky together singing while the storm is overhead.
To me the Doors never get old they just get better and when they release new studio out takes to me it's like re discovering them again they never get old The Doors are forever !
Thank you Robby & John...and of course, Ray and Jim for ALL your talent and musical gifts to the world. - from a lifelong fan since the early days... ✌🏽❤️🎶
Love this version. Densmore hits the snare on more notes during some parts, compared to the final version. By removing some of them for the album version, it became much more hypnotic. Ray just kills anything he ever plays on, dude was incredible. Jim’s voice sounds young again, first album young. God, I love this band.
@Peter Lovett .... I agree. This version is cool, but lacks that dark moody chill of the final release. One of the reasons I always seek out demo and original mixes of songs from bands I like, is to give that perspective of the original interpretation and how a producer / engineer influences the final product. I have many hundreds of such recordings and will occasionally play the bands original version with final product to see how bands grow or change through the recording process :)
im so glad that i can listen to this, after 50 years we have something new and this guys, even if i was born in this century, still make me dream today. im glad to have their music in my life, honestly.
I really like this version and all versions. This version has more audible rawer bass sound which does add atmosphere. Great mysterious song. I was lucky enough to see The Doors of the 21st Century in 2004. It featured Robbie Krieger, Ray Manzerek, Ian Astbury singer for The Cult. Unfortunately Jon Densmore wasn't present due to hearing loss and naming rights disputes. It was a great show. Now only Robbie and Jon are left.
The first version of this I heard was the one from American Prayer. It was fairly new and being around 12 I was just discovering FM radio. After a year or so I heard the album version. Now here I am a few decades later hearing the original demo.
Sorry for all not around in the sixties!!! The Doors--the best American rock band hands down!!!!!!! Rock power mystery --''soul of the sixties--as a musician after i heard their first album I was changed
Yeah well, it's a slight rearrangement of Ghost Riders In The Sky which had already been kicking around for years by then, so even this early demo version was going to be pretty much there already.

This sounds like how they would have played it live on tour I think. Brilliant. Just add in a little rain and thunder tape loop and I would pay to see that!!!

This is definitely different than I'm thinking of the doors' music from the 70's and I never thought this version of Riders on the storm would sound much better than I thought unexpectedly than I thought it would be remembered

When Ray Manzarek spoke about this version of "Riders" many years ago, no believed Ray. I'm glad this missing version was found.

So true.
THIS ANIMATION IS SOOOOOO TRUE TO THE BAND. I LOVE IT, I LOVE YOU THE DOORS.
CHEERS MY FRIENDS, USA USA USA !!!!!
The baseline is almost identical to the album version but stands out so much more in this version and I love it
This version uses keyboard bass, record uses bass guitar. To me bass guitar is much better.
Prefer the demo version, just like Jim rough around the edges, a legend
I wonder if it's because they didn't have an official bassist, and they kinda wanted to keep the bass lowkey on release
bassline
Who plays the keyboard bass here??
Beautiful my first LP at 12 years old in 1967 The Doors The Rest is History~
