Good review. I've had my 1260s for 16,500 trouble free miles. Fixes for things you mentioned are Ducati throttle spacer gets rid of any snatchiness, it takes up the free play in the throttle housing. Gearing is transformed by going up two teeth on the rear sprocket, it makes the bike much more rideable particularly at the lower speeds and in town. Seat on a long run is not good, I have a Corbin which gives all day comfort. Wind noise can be improved with aftermarket screen, I have an MRA Vario which is much better. Those few mods make an almost perfect bike into a perfect bike. Great also for touring. I did a 2000 mile Spain trip last year and it was fantastic. And all the time you have that intoxicating engine with its power and torque. Mine is my first Ducati and is without doubt the best bike I've ever owned.

Really liked your comment on dealerships letting potential clients take their bikes for bigger test drives.
It's ridiculous, sometimes you feel that you are doing them a favor.
From my experience, the posture is always to let you drive 15min and that's it.
The bikes are always in need of fuel so you usually hear something like "sure, if you want to take it for a spin around the block it's fine" or "Yes, you can put some fuel but the gas station is too far away and it needs to quick". That's so annoying.
Anyway, the editing is getting better and better. Really enjoyed it!

Have a 1260s for just over a year and done 10,000 miles. Your review is spot on. I won’t be keeping it much longer due to roll off snatch and lumpy ness at slow speed!

I had the Enduro one before the Harley. It loved to rev up. Once you get over 6,000 it rocketed! Incredibly stable. I’d be at almost 100 getting on the highway without realizing it.

Good production TP1 like the graphics. Had my 1260s for just over a year, no suprise you nailed the bikes weak areas. My MS is 5,500 miles old .....Grumbling round town can be a pain, the screen buffeting is a shocker but my knee gripes were sorted by the extra leg room from the comfort seat option. Did Mugello and back last year on it... loved it, still love it. Glad to see your channel doing well keep the entertainment coming.

Ducatis live at 4,000 rpms. If your running at less than that, you'll feel like the engine isn't performing well.

Your test ride comments are spot on. My local BMW dealer let me have a 1200 GSA for 2 hours in which I managed 80 miles of A roads, B roads, town and motorway riding. Needless to say, it gained them a sale.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks Sam, yeah I just don’t get how a lot of dealerships think it’s acceptable to limit a test ride to an hour or less? I know they must get a lot of tyre kickers etc, but that’s a hell of an investment to expect a punter to make on just a quick spin around the block!
Definitely where BMW have nailed it 👍

I use CaliMoto when ever I ride, and used it last summer a tour in the French Alps. Brilliant app. Planned the whole trip on it and you can add pictures to the route/map where you take them. Brilliant. It does add a little childish competition in the bar after a ride looking at the data it's recorded!

Good honest review pal. You are so right in regards test rides before spending your hard earned on a machine. Unfortunately here in Ireland you'd be lucky to get any sort of test ride before purchasing a new bike at all due to poor customer service from the main bike dealerships here. That is why reviews like the one from yourself are vital for a general all round picture of a machine in my opinion. Fair play.

Laguna Ashford are amazing! We went there with a friend of mine last october(either 7th or 8th). We didnt even had CBT done at that point. Literally came in to check the bikes out and ask some questions. The guys were very understanding, very supportive and friendly. Straight away greeted by one of the managers, sent to a guy that spent good 40 minutes with us talking bikes. Definetly recommend. When we went to Maidstone it was a completly different experience, not as friendly, or approachable (especially not by two newbs ;D). At the end of these experiences, my friend said the only place he wants to get his vulcan s from is definetly Ashford (: And that is how you get customers!
Grand video as always! I hope you will fix the audio issues youre having soon! Would be interesting to hear a review on Ruroc after you've been using it for some time. Apparently Ruroc was ment to fix the noise issue with 2.0.... Guess it didnt work as well as they hoped? (:

Excellent review. I have the same in red. Outstanding scooter in every sense. The front end is a bit heavy at slow speeds, but that''s more a reflection of my previous bikes than a criticism of the Multistrada. I love that when you want to be a hooligan, it's ready to indulge you and then some.

I think a long term review is needed. I feel a review that reviews and compares the generational history of the 1200 Multistrada would be a great idea. Starting with the first gen 1200, hitting on the 2010, 2013S, 2015S, then onto the 1260. The V4 is not in the same geniality of the twins and should start its own line. Many riders don’t truly realize the true real world differences in the growth of the L twin.

We will make a Multi believer of you one day Bruce ..... on my second one, almost 50000 miles in, used as a daily commuter all year round including winter and been to Norway and back on it fully loaded and its the best bike i have ever owned. I have done 800 miles in a day on it more than once and no sore arse. Superb engine and feels like a sports bike when you want to play but does mile munching with ease and comfort. The reason why Urban mode feels shit is it knocks the power down from 160 to 100 BHP. I came from sportsbikes then a GS1150 and tried the GS 1200 LC back to back with the Multi before i spent my cash. The GS was good but the Multi was special and still makes me grin everytime i whack open the throttle and mine pretty much stays in Sport unless i venture onto gravel roads and then its Enduro time to get the rear spinning as the TC is too intrusive in any other setting

Never rode one except the 1199 sportbike was not bad, great fun factor. This would be a great bike for touring around the world if there water puddles or dirt roads no problem, but its damn ungly. Thinking on buying the all new 2020 KTM 1290 Super Duke R,yes it's also kind of ugly ,but fun factor is addictive i hear.

I had a 2014 Multi GT and went to a 1250 GSA. Unfortunately lost that in an accident but replaced it with a 1250 GS. I’ve been on a GS bike for a year and a half between the 2 and I’m now researching the new 1260 GT. I’m comfortable on either bike but the power is just more fun on the Multi. I also prefer the handling characteristics of the Multi. It’s interesting to me how some people complain about the vibes on a Multi and others don’t. A riding friend can’t stand the Multi because he said it vibes too much. I’ve never really noticed.

Test rode the Enduro and I liked a lot of things but found I was lugging the engine inadvertently, too use to the 1200 Tiger tripple. Although just traded it in on the new Tiger Rally Pro 900. Great bike, realise now you don't need a 1200 Adv bike, we'll for me anyway. Nice review

Like towel flicking the Tazmanian Devil in the dangleys 🤣🤣. Brilliant! Great insight and beautiful looking bike. Had the original which was great at the time. Looking between this and the 1250GS for two up touring. Veering towards the GS as never had one and probably more "civilised" for seeing the sights! Thanks for uploadingTP1. I bet Im not the only one "afflicted" with singing "Nationals 🎤🎤" every time I now see the sign after watching your vids. Cheers

      Ha Ha - “Nash-Nullssss!”
Glad you liked it bud, and yep I’d agree with you about the GS being a better two-up tourer, but it really depends on how you like to ride. The Ducati is face-achingly fun, it’ll make you feel like your 18 again, it’s basically a blue pill made by Ducati.
The GS can hustle, but it’s altogether more civilised and equally happy just trudging along.
The next generation Multistrada with the V4 is going to be immense though I reckon 👍

I had the chance of driving both 950 S and 1260S, also next day I got the R1250GS, well, both Ducati bikes where great, both have semi active suspensions, 950S is better for in town commuting, the big Ducati has great brakes, though since it's front heavy nose dives every time you hit a bit harder the brake, too much heat on left foot cause of the engine in stop and go traffic, less heat with the 950S. Big Ducati has quite some vibrations that are annoying in stop and go traffic. Doesn't like slow speeds, have to try several times to get the gear in N, Great bike for longer trips, tiresome for every day commuting in city traffic. 950S is better daily commuter. R1250GS... what a bike... active suspension and low center of gravity makes it a big scooter for daily commuting. Great brakes, no nose diving, better consumption, less engine heat. Multi has the looks, BMW has the functionality. At the end I got the BMW. I could make a list with all the pros and cons of each one of them but i would have to write too much.

Just turned 17K miles on my 2019. I love this thing. Great high and low speed performance, and to my amazement it even works well in Enduro mode on pretty challenging Jeep roads. Bags work great, takes a pillion well. Very comfortable (I’ve done 2 iron butts on it). Zero reliability issues. Had a BMW S1000XR prior and like this bike much better - the Duc engine just works so much better in this application than the race focused inline 4 in the Beemer. This bike is the best all rounder I have ever owned.

Also you can change engine modes on the move you just have to close the throttle.i owned 1200 multi for 2 years went round Europe on it never missed a beat faster than a gs better looking lignter 17 inch wheels and doesn't have school dinner boxes for panniers and new multistradas have 4 year warranty and let's face it probably 2% of owners will ever go offroad with gs and multistradas and yes I don't like the gs.

You should have popped in for a brew mate, you were about 5 mins from my place in Woodchurch 👍, great vid BTW, very informative.
On the subject of Laguna Maidstone, I've no idea how they sell any bikes, when I was looking for my new bike 2 years ago I went to them for a test ride on an MT09... They just weren't helpful or interested, ended up going to Alford Brothers in Folkestone who were awsome.
I ride the Enduro version of the Multistrada last year and wasn't impressed, its fine as long as you want to spank it all the time but at normal road speeds it felt really snatchy and the gearbox was very agricultural, might give the 1260s a go as a comparison. Keep on keeping on bud, stay safe.

Been touring with mate on his 1260 and me on my 1250gs, both 2 up with luggage. Both great bikes but I won't be swapping my gs. Ducati needed oil top up and chain lubing, no such problems on the gs. Apparently it's normal for Duc to go through oil, like 1tr every 3 - 4k miles - my gs hasn't used any in last 4,500 miles so expect it to go from service to service without needing a top up. GS also had slightly better range, but not a lot in it.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yep, the GS is just no fuss maintenance isn’t it - fuel it and that’s about it, occasionally may need oil if you’ve been absolutely ragging it.

I’m not sure about that but it would certainly be handy. In the voice navigation it does sometimes give you the road name and/or number you’re turning into, but it’d be handing to see it next to the visual turn signal on the app.
I suppose you can just look at the map if you have it zoomed in enough 🤷‍♂️

Another great review Bruce, I can concur with your thoughts, I had this bike for a few months great for an hours blast but if you want all day comfort you know what to buy, I did. The multistrada has character for sure but not sure what will happen with it after a couple of years of ownership.

I’ve seen the older models with over 50K on the clock and they ran just as well. The only negative would be the chain replacement and lube maintenance comp[ared to the GS shaft drive. The again the BMS shaft drives have been known to fail costing bundles of money to replace. Since I’ve owned both an RT and a Multistrada 1200GT, at the same time for a couple of years, here in the USA. I love the RT on an across country trip. The Multi is capable of it but if I’m on the highway all day I would take the RT. If I were riding skyline drive and the Blue Ridge parkway, ill take the Multi. They are really that close that your splitting hairs have it the discussion with yourself. If the weather is bad I’m taking the RT. If the weather is hot I’m taking the Multi.

I ride a GSA right now but have ridden both the Ducati 1260 S and the Enduro and the more road oriented 1260 S is definitely a contender after the GSA. No way i would make that kind of decision without having one out for at least 3 or 4 hours, its way too much cash to get it wrong!!!

“you should [test] ride a bike for at least a few hours”...Bruce you are so right. See the public comment I left on TMF’s review of the Enduro 1260 about Riders of Bridgwater just letting me test ride for 30mins, most of which was in heavy traffic and following a member of their staff. Since then, I rode 130 miles to Crawley where I did get a 60min test ride (thank you Will @ P&H Motorcycles) and, given I loved it, I’ve been offered a new Enduro 1260 with panniers for £19K. I have a KTM 1290 SA S but the Enduro 1260 just felt better planted on the motorway, and that engine is brilliant 😁

Hi Bruce, excellent review and agree with all that you said. I had a19 plate 1260s for nearly a year and have changed to a 1250 GS TE. The power is defo there on the Ducati and is flipping lovely to use, its when you just want to ride around using performance, town, and everyday riding it is just to snatchy and jumpy, without e remap which does sort it I know, but what with cold starting issues, really crap quick shifter and a replaced fuel gauge with in a fortnight of it being brand new, I’d had ENOUGH!!!
Please understand that I’m not knocking the Multistrada because it was a phenomenal machine, I would have another possibly, oh and don’t get me goin on the dealership, but the GS just does everything I want with a touch more finesse with nearly as much poke for everyday performance, towns, etc. Next to Harley dealers BMW Wollaston Northampton are right up there.
Keep up the great work Bruce and hope to meet you someday.

Great review Bruce and it looks a fantastic motorcycle. But I can’t help wondering if it’s really worth double the money I paid for my new V-Strom 1000 two months’ ago. You said the engine was smooth which surprised me as I rode a Ducati Supersport 937 cc L-Twin before I bought the V-Strom and it was a right bag of nails (vibes were horrendous and the mirrors unusable). I guess Ducati worked on that for the 1260 motor.

I was really looking forward to this review because I own a 2018 Multistrada 1260S. I test rode all the competitors. I was in the market for a Sport Tourer (my long distance tourer is a Harley-Davidson). I have the factory Termignoni exhaust system and up-map. That combination totally eliminated the fueling issues you complained about at steady throttle settings and when you ‘chop’ the throttle. It is still unhappy under 2500 rpm. The Multistrada (or for that matter any Ducati I have ridden) is not for you if you like to spend lots of time down in that rpm range.
You didn’t seem to try the ‘down blipper’... it is also fantastic!
As for reliability, I have had NO issues. I realize that I have only had it for two years, but that is better than my last Honda.
For me the Multistrada 1260S is a stonkin’ sport tourer. Although admittedly ‘pricey’. If the price bothers you, then the Yamaha MT10 should be on your list to try.

You are scrupulously honest in your reviews which is refreshing, so a question, name three bikes I should look at for an only bike of the adventure style, it will only see gravel tracks at worst, has to tour, it has to be useable around town and back roads, I ride only for fun , not work, oh and I have an inseam of 29", yes a vertically challenged type but on the large side.
