Everything about this band is criminally underrated. The Guess Who are arguably the most underappreciated band, Burton is certainly the most underrated voice in rock, and Domenic is NEVER mentioned in the realm of great guitarists.

ATTENTION FELLOW ROCKERS: I live near the Rock n Roll HOF! The reason The Guess Who and other bands are not "yet" in the HOF is simple. They cannot put 65yrs of musicians in all at once because if they did people would only need to go there once. So, to keep it fresh and new, they only induct 6 or so a year. I can assure you that it's a GREAT museum! Other great museums are Bethyl Woods Museum (Woodstock) in New York and the Motown museum in Detroit. Check them out online or better yet........in person! PEACE OUT!!!

I was with French band Les Variations and we did the "farewell" tour with Guess Who and I have to say Dominic Troiano was one of the badest-ass guitar players I've ever seen. On stage as in this video they had all that white equipment (also Led Zep's quad PA and Dominic had 2 Marshall stacks AND 2 Leslie cabs with Marshall heads and some kind of modified Echoplex. We would be backstage and he would punch those Leslie's in and it would knock you down it sounded so good. They all were great. R.I.P.

    Burton is an entertainer.
He gives 100+% 💯 of his voice, music & lyrics to his fans.
His life is music. 1974 was difficult, Dominic wasn't from Winnipeg Manitoba..he didn't fit the band..he wanted to change the kind of music. Burton was the leader since 1970.
In 1975 he broke up The Guess Who and went solo.
He is a survivor. I've learned so much from him, listening to his interviews, etc.
It's now the year of 2024.

More recently, I heard 'Hand Me Down World' on the radio. It just juiced me & I said "fook me, that band was great"- I forgot how great....
That led to me buying a 5 CD set called Original Album Classics, put out by Epic, I believe. (I also have the same sets for Jeff Beck & Argent...)
I am on a total Guess Who venture now !!
God, the album tracks, like Sour Suite & Palmyra ? Whew !!! Good God damn, they were great !! They totally fit my early '70s sensibilities, from Joe Walsh, Zappa, Genesis, Yes, Steely Dan, ect....

In spite of Burton’s comments, Domenic Troiano is the best guitarist the band has ever had. They’re a million times better than some who are in the HOF. Between 1965 and 1974, The Guess Who placed 21 singles on the Hot 100, six reaching the top 10, including "American Woman," which held the top spot for three weeks. Fifteen times the band hit the top 200 LP chart, three times reaching the top 10. And that doesn't include Cummings' solo success and Bachman's hits with Bachman-Turner Overdrive.
The Guess Who's music stands head and shoulders above practically any group to ever enter a recording studio.

SRV used a Leslie speaker on some of his tracks as well, most notably "Cold Shot." It's not the speaker itself that spins, though, it's a foam cylinder with various different sized/shaped cutouts that spins in front of the actual speaker. That's what gives organs their particular "wailing," almost siren-like sound.
I actually got to play through a Leslie cab once. We were hosting an afternoon jam at a local blues club, and the sound guy asked me if I wanted to try out that evening's main act's Leslie. If course I jumped at the chance, but because the speaker was hidden under the front of the stage, my drummer bitched and moaned about "not being able to hear me."🤣
I mean, he's sitting right next to my 50 watt, 4x10" tube combo, and he claims he can't hear me!🤣

This was a highlight from the Flavours record and gave me hope for this version of the band. Burton spoke kindly of Dom's great playing, but had simply lost his passion for the Guess Who brand and the lure of a solo career. Then saw Dom and his bands on the club circuit around Toronto. He was an amazing player and a wonderful, humble gentleman!

    • @That70sGuitarist

True, but I would've loved to have seen them play "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature." IMHO, that has to be *the* most bad@$$ number they *ever* did!
For my money, "Canned Wheat" was *the* definitive GW album. The band were at their absolute pinnacle of writing and playing prowess, and the album showed levels of subtlety and style that made it really stand out from their other works. "Minstrel Boy" and the rollicking extended romp that is "The Key" are probably the most outstanding tracks on that album, but "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature" is top of the heap in terms of showcasing their immense songwriting talents.
The story behind it is that Burt really loved the opening lick and wanted to go one way with it, while Bachman wanted to go another route entirely. In the end, they agreed to do both, with Burt's version first and Randy's second.
Or at least that's what I heard, way back in the early 1970s.😉
Still an awesome performance from one of Canada's true pioneers of rock!

@@cbotten106 Honestly, most of that promotion happened after the federal.government enacted the so-called "Can-con" rules. Suddenly, Canadian television and radio stations were scrambling to find Canadian talent, and a whole recording industry sprang up almost overnight.
I once watched a documentary about a Quebecois band, Harmonium, touring US colleges and universities in the 1970s, and Rene Levesque even accompanied them on part of their visit to California.
