OH MY GOSH JOHN! Please include "Bloopers" in your future videos. It makes me feel like you're "one of us" when I see things aren't always PERFECT when you're working with dogs. I think of Cooper often and he'll always be alive in my heart. I hope you and your family are doing well. Time is the only healer from such a loss.
Thanks for the reminder! I'll make an extra effort to include those in the future. Wasn't sure if others enjoyed them! :-) Thank you so much. We are doing a bit better now. Just took a little time and I didn't want to rush the wife on the "new dog" front. But we are about ready to start looking now....
Hey BJ I thought of you this week and this comment (even though you left it a LONG time ago... I didn't forget!). So I put in a series of bloopers in this week's video just for you! It'll be released Sunday! Enjoy!

Huge fan of this channel. Just started with my first Doberman puppy. Already sitting and waiting on command; and will let me stop him eating and resume when told. 8 weeks old and he’s been with me 5 days - everything I’ve worked on has been from this channel. Thanks!
Thank you John on these videos, keep watching them every day and I have to say my heart is broken you lost your boy so early... I feel for you and me and Zion send you lots of love. You've been doing a great job, please don't stop. All the best, Mario.
Love my Doberman puppy. 4 months old had him for a week and already how to sit and lay down. Never peed outside his pad. Super responsive when I call him. Couldn’t ask for a better best friend
Just have them in basic obedience then work with them we have one at work he’s our shop dog and didn’t work much with him after training he’s a little wild (10 months now) but is slowly getting better he’s not mean but plays a little rough but very loving. The problem is when customers come he charges to meet them and wants to play with them and having an 80 pound dobie run up to you when you don’t know him scares the crap out of some people. But he is getting better if we took more time to work with him we probably wouldn’t have this problem. Good luck they are fantastic dogs. Also have him docked and cropped despite what some idiots say they aren’t traumatized ours would fall asleep when posting his ears and loves having his ears played with so if he was traumatized he wouldn’t want his ears touched
That's quite a few tricks that you were able to teach him in such a short period of time! It was also impressive how quickly he was able to eat the treat he was balancing! SNAP!
Great tips as usual John. I have a 11 week old puppy that has picked up the basic obedience commands within five days. In my short period of time as a Doberman owner, I have found your comment about adding gestures to be completely spot on. In fact, I have noticed that if I have a brain freeze, and give the wrong verbal command with a hand gesture the puppy follows the hand gesture.
My 12 week old Doberman has learned the sit, stay, shake, ok/release, speak commands ! She’s a beautiful smart fawn! Although I feel like she’s still too young for the balancing of things since she gets distracted very easily :c love that one
I am thinking of getting a Doberman, I want to do the most research as I can before committing, my question is do you think that the energy wouldn’t be so high if it had another dog around?
Their energy does die down around the age of two. However don’t believe that their energy will deplete with another dog around. They,l playa round sure, but they won’t tired themselves out naturally.
Over the past 25 - 30 years, I've raised/owned/have had part of my family at least 8 dogs. In the beginning, I always used verbal and non-verbal commands, which, as some of my previous dogs have lost hearing, the visual commands were super useful. I'm not sure where I picked up this technique, but I have and continue to use both verbal and visual commands.
Hello John, your channel is just brilliant. i like that your videos cover topics that dobe (pet owners not breeders) family, whether first or not, encounter. it reflects in your experiences and the way you share it making it extremely relatable. Is Cooper an European dobermann? i'm testing my self after viewing your other video on american vs european dobes. it's a bit hard trying to recognize one over the other if not in person. im hoping to get my first dobe early jan next year. pregnancy confirmed. its an american line. maybe my next would be an european line. I appreciate your videos and truly enjoy them. thanks and keep those videos coming.
Thanks so much for the kind words it really means a lot! I love that people are finding useful information from what I share. Cooper is a European Doberman. He doesn't always act like it in temperament, he is pretty calm... but that's just his individual personality. Congrats on your soon to be new addition to your family!
After watching your dog balance a treat on his nose it reminded me of something that happened with 1 of my Dobermans, she was named Shannon. Here's my story, while watching tv a lot of times I would just run through my dogs bag of tricks just for practice. This one time while watching a football game on tv I placed a treat on the tip of her nose. Now she knows she can't eat it till I say ok. Well something happened in the football game that we was watching and I got more involved in the game and forgot to tell her ok. Some time went by before I looked at her and realized I forgot to tell her ok. She was still sitting there with her treat on the tip of her nose. But now so much time went by that she was drooling in anticipation of eating her treat. I felt so bad for her because I forgot to release her. But she never wavered from her trick. She was the smartest dog I have ever seen. She could learn some new tricks in just 1 afternoon. I would run through some new trick just once and she got it. I really miss that dog. She died in 1985 from Kidney failure. She was only 5 years old.
Thanks for sharing valuable tips. I had German Shepherds before, but this time I am planning to get one male Doberman and a male German Shepherd , most likely of same age. Can you please make a video on how to properly socializing your dobermans, with dogs and people and in public. Love your videos, I cant wait to get my puppy!!
you mentioned that a visual cue is good to do along with the verbal command. to add to why you feel that this is good i might add that a friend of mine does this as well. they told us that having a visual cue is also good in cases where your dog might develop a loss of hearing as they advance in age. should that happen, the visual cue becomes even more important. as always, great vid! thanks!
Hey big of fan of your channel recent viewer. Love your content and very informative. I’m watching each and every video multiple times before I get myself a Doberman. Quick question, I was wondering if you could do a video on bark on command training along with light protection teaching training. A lot of the other videos I’ve seen really contradict your teachings. Really would like your input on how you’d go about this training. Looking for bark on command and assuming a protective stance without lunging if that helps clear up anything. (Not looking for a bite on command )

When you are training Arlo do you spend a few days on one thing and then move on? Teach him sit for a week, then the next week teach stay, but still work with sit?
A neighbor used to have some pretty expensive dogs that had the run of the neighborhood. They spent a lot of time at our house because all animals love my daughter. We have also attended 6 training sessions. It would be brilliant to show/ make a video on your home made devices I would find it very useful. I am in England so we don't have dog park's a shame really. However I really appreciate your response. I will let you know how we go on. Keep your chin up. Watched your video on breaking in to your own house I couldn't stop laughing Cooper was a real credit to you. Thank you again. Take care.
Amazing!
I’m getting a baby Doberman in like 2 weeks I’m so nervous and exited
How’s it going?
How’s your Doberman doing
It’s going pretty good thanks for asking he is berry obedient
I just got a Doberman and I need some tips on raising it, does anyone have any important steps to taking care of one?
If I made my Doberman wait that long to get the snack, I'd need a life raft from all the drool.
This. I give him a few commands before letting him have the food bowl and he looks like a dragon with all the drool dripping to the ground
My Doberman is SO fast with tricks ! It’s crazy
He is Awesome lovely dog.👌👍
I am adopting a Doberman female and she is two years old. First time owner of a Doberman. 😮
Agreed.
Can you start telling us how old your dogs are when you're doing different activities with them? Where they are in their learning? Thanks! PS I love the ending lol.
I am devouring your channel. I got my first Dobbie named Kanio!
What kind of ear cut Arlo has by the way? Looks so nice!
Amazing Chanel!🤗🤗🤗
Lmfao the last part had me cracking up!
Cuties puppy in the world 😍
Is a Doberman ever too old to learn tricks
Usually around 22 years old. Then it will be extremely hard for them to learn new tricks.
Actually they can learn a really cool trick. At that age they learn how to fly with smaller angels dobermans flying around them
ττρρ ζιννν hey man, my Doberman is still young, I think we 4 months in human time... I want to teach him, is it still possible? I know nothing about dogs and training
@@BMW323ciDriver hey. I was just joking because a dobeeman usually lives around 10 years. But you can make your dobeeman learn a new trick anytime and even when it matured. So you don't have to worry❤️❤️❤️
How can I train if he is in a Forrest environment
i got a 3 year old rescue dog a few months back and we are still working on "Come" "sit" "stay" My Dobie is not vary food motivated. I may need a dog trainer
