Suddenly my boy stopped at the bathroom door. And waited 😳 I was confused. Until my youngest son told me he taught him PRIVATE. So now we just say Private as we head down the hall 😂 I asked him HOW did you do this magic so I may tell the other dooberman parents!!! My son looks at me and says "I told him Private and shut the door".... 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤣🤣🤣

I have two Dobies, female and male. She is 4 he is 2, they both came from Dobermans Rescue of North Texas. Watching your videos for years, and a couple of other dog training videos, along with having read ‘The Monks of New Skeet’ book on raising dogs, I have been successful. Yes, these dogs are smart, mischievous, and manipulative. Don’t give in, no matter how hard it is. After almost four years I realize they are still looking for me to drop my guard. But, I love them dearly for that.

Mind blown - I knew socialization of any dog was super important, but never knew about teaching them to be neutral in social situations! Thanks so much for this crucial bit of info. This is the first I've actually ever heard that part of the socialization equation. Can you do a video on how to train a dog to be neutral in these social situations? I'm not sure how to accomplish that. Thank you so much for the informative video!

Lovely points for the breed! And for dobe people! I do not have a dobe but have known a few! My first dobe girl who belonged to my friend made a HUGE impression on me with her fun and wily ways. I have always pondered over having a dobe but have felt I can be a pushover for such a breed and/or I will get SO attached that I won't be able to take a loss of such an amazing soul. But your channel truly puts it all out in such a realistic and compassionate manner for this breed who needs this information out in one wholesome place ..Thank You 🙏🏽

I agree the loss of this breed is like loosing a very close family member. It took me twenty years to get another Doberman, then I ended up with two of them. I couldn’t stand seeing the last puppy being left behind. Almost three years later and they are our entire life. Im so particular with them, I know it’s due to the loss twenty years ago.

No one should blame themselves if they lose a dog to DCM. Like you said, you don't know what you don't know. My 6 year old male came from a terrific, sonscientious breeder of show Dobermans here in the states. As a part of her breeding program she had all the puppies from her kennel Holter tested annually. My Attila was tested three times, and the reports came back perfect as read by the monitor company vets and by my veterinarian. A couple of months after his sixth birthday, he died on my living room floor. I stood to go into the kitchen to get a drink, and he stood to follow me, and dropped before taking one step. This dog was fed high-end food, got his supplements for heartworms regularly, was vaccinated, got lots of exercise daily as my farm buddy. He still died of DCM. There is no 100% guarantee that it won't happen. Just love them every day the best you can and make sure you have no regrets if you lose them to DCM.

Another great video. Lots of good info. I have scheduled a puppy socializing event at a local volunteer fire department on 9/9/24. We live rural, but I take our puppy walking through a downtown metropolis 3-4 times a week. Yes, I believe I noticed her testing me a couple weeks ago during feeding time. I put my nearly 7 month old doberman puppy on her placeboard when I leave the room for any reason. I want her to be comfortable with life when i cannot be with her 24/7. I am a stay at home mom, so Im usually home, but I have a medically complicated life. Therfore, surgeries will be in my future and I dont want a super anxious doberman everytime im in the hospital.
I used side submission to teach my puppy medical touch without wriggling away and also trimming nails. I usually put her on her side and give her muscle massages. Sometimes, though, it involves nail trimming.
Its not a mean, "stay down." She has just learned to stay down when i put her on her side since we have done it since she was 9 weeks old. It also helps me to put shoes on her❤

I'm really glad I had a Rottweiler Bloodhound mix before I got a Dobie. His extreme stubbornness and sensitivity really set me up for training a Dobie! lol Though training them was very different, it was good practice for what not to do and to stick to my guns when it came to things. Though I made a few minor mistakes with him, my Dobie girl is very well behaved. But she often still tests what she can get away with at 8 years old. She is my good girl Turbo and may Radar boy RIP, dearly missed.

I could write a book about Zekes issues with nails being clipped, we have to go to the vet to get them cut,{he’s put to sleep}, Zekes biological mommy stepped on him and tore out his nail when he was just a few days old, I can do anything I want to him like touching him while he’s eating, I can take the bowl away from him and he will just sit and wait for me to give it back, but I have to be honest and say I didn’t do a good job raising him where the nails are concerned 😢. Zeke truly behaves like a toddler, if I don’t do what he wants he will throw himself on the floor and start screaming at me 🤦🏾‍♀️. I truly try to refocus his attention to something , but it’s hard when you have a dog that would be going to an Ivy League school if he was human.
Zeke stole a package of sweet rolls and I watching him hide the rolls in different places and he even hide the bag they came in, how do you outsmarted him? He stole my sisters glass, we found them chewed up, her brought her a backup pair and he stole those, somehow he’s figured out she can’t leave without them, Zeke is honestly the smartest dog I’ve ever owned and since he’s not my first Doberman I didn’t realize how much smarter and hard headed the European Dobermans were 😮. I could literally write a book on how this little monster behaves, did I mention that every night around 3-4pm he wakes me up to let him out to potty, he will grab all the covers and pulls them off of me if I don’t move fast enough to suit him, 🤦🏾‍♀️

My doberman was getting intermittent diarrhoea, and the vet suggested taking him off wet food. At the time he was getting a 50/50 mix of canned food and biscuits (Kibble). I trialed him on a range of different biscuits, finally settling on Royal Cannin. He hasn't missed the wet food at all, he loves the biscuits. The diarrhoea disappeared and he is in top notch health. He is now seven and people still comment on how shiny his coat is and how healthy he looks.

My 2.5 yr old girl had loose stool since a puppy. Shes been on purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach salmon and rice. The food doesn’t have a lot of corn or wheat additives but she was still having some issues with loose stool. I’ve had her on a pre/pro biotic for a year now, called Bernie’s perfect poop, and has worked great, for anyone having the same issue. It’s on Amazon, we get the cheese flavor and you add about a tablespoon or two on top of their food twice a day.
