i have it too and used to have a lot bikes during the last 43 years... harley as well... Spot on, those are the three challenges, bearing in mind that ABS is an issue until 2009, hence my preference for a 2010 onwards. New R12 gs and 1300 adv will be shown on July 5th, really interesting. Keep safe 👍✌️
I agree, I own a second hand since 2010, now 270km. I changed the engine recently because it was my fault for not overhauled the engine on time. I love this bike. I did many international trips.

Good trip! If you made. full service inluding brke fluid and if you have good tires I cannot imagine what you will need. The worst would probably be a tire leak. Enjoy and have a great time✌️👍
Its my favorite bike, this type you are riding. Currently riding a 2000 r1100rt wich is extremely reliable. But looking to the GSA1200 you are riding, because of the seating position for my knees. Had a 05 gs1200 in the past. I will never buy a GS1300 because of the ridiculous price and because it already had a couple of recalls. Oldskool is much better. As a neighbour I visit the Mosel region often because I like the area and it is nearby. Love that region.
Nederland of Belgie? Bedankt, ja ik heb de 1300 geprobeerd, erg goed maar onnodige techniek en erg duur. I love the GSA: K255 or the LC K50 1200. More than enough if you ask me. Great region👍 I love Zeeland also 😎 Have a great time✌️
2007 GS 1200 70K trouble free miles. 40 year MX racer, thought these bikes were for the Starbucks crowd. Boy was I wrong. Unparalleled as a long distance touring bike, incredibly capable off- road with proper tires , skills, and discretion. Also, due to current used bike market, one of the best bargains for serious riders. No silly electronics ( ABS only. ABS is mandatory on this type of machine). Tons of torque. Smooth , refined , and sophisticated. The chassis is a dynamic masterpiece of stability and handling, especially in gnarly conditions. Front end vague off- road and low end lean bog makes it clunky at slow speeds in difficult terrain. But ADV is always about compromise.
Great comment, thanks for sharing. Yes, off-road esp wet is all about tires and weight as you know so well with your experience. It took me a while to buy my first boxer and some time to become a fan. Age and experience help 😅✌️. And I keep my Honda AT, NT and Transalp to rediscover the K255 every time. Enjoy many more safe miles!! 👍
After one GS1100 5 gear and two gs1150 ADV I own a gs1200 adventure 2012 MY with, currently, 89.oookm. The only accessories are ABS and mechanically adjustable Ohlins suspension. I love this bike, it doesn't have the frame, the electronics, the gearbox of the new GS but the feeling of "unstoppable" is present the moment I get on the saddle.
Great description, unstoppable 👍 distinctive, huge gas tank, a real classic, thanks for sharing and lots of more miles!! Today is the presentation of the new GSA and R12GS. ✌️
I had a 2008 GSA and loved it for the main. My issue was poor throttle response. I put on a Booster Plug which was excellent to start with. I got amazing economy and great throttle response but seemed to revert after a time to the previous setting. I tried an LC which was just better for me in every way.
Interesting, I will check this, the 2010 forward has the double camshaft and slightly more power. I enjoy the 1200 K51 a great deal as well. The older bikes make time go slower. ✌️👍
Nice in red, will check these tires. Limited off-road here 😩 all closed. Using Mitas E09 or Heidenau K60. All the best and many more km! Good bargain!!
This is going down in history as the last air/oil cooled. Like porsche 911 last aircooled was the best. No coolant changes. No leaks. No pumps. Easy to change alternator and starter. The last hp2 style two bolt head is breathing better. I have 2010 triple black without any abs or trac control. And no esa.
Beautifully engineered. The last of the “quality” GS’s. Compelling sound and comfort ! Utterly excellent… but not the best GS! The power to weight of the R1300GS and the handling is in a different world. Let’s not tell lies !
😎 completely agree, the new 1300 is a great ‘race’ bike, price and performance in a different league. A lot and maybe even more technology than we need. The K25 has the beauty of simplicity and it slows down time. ✌️👍
I have been thinking about a shaft drive bike for touring, always thought Bmw were money pits bought by dentists but I'll consider your advice here, subbed.
First question to ask is: New or used. New Moto Guzzi Stelvio is a nice contender. Without shaft: Honda NT1100, excellent value for money! Enjoy the ride! 👍✌️
High mileage = 2010-2013 air/oil K25; Newer K51 look for sub 20.000 km. Small price difference but will take you far. In Germany K25 = 9000 Eur below 50k, K50 11.000€ for around 20K and 16.000€ for the 1250. And... buy the bike with full luggage = value 750 €. A good K25 > 2010 and adv version K255 would be my choice.
There is two of K25 in Croatia, one is owned by Željan Rakela and another one as well from world traveller. Both bikes made over 500.000km (300.000miles) even the clutch on both bikes are oem. So i don’t know what is big deal. These bikes are indestructible. Same as old flying bricks
I’m looking for something similar, but can’t find the K25 designation in Australia 🇦🇺. I’ve found a couple of 2012 R1200GS, but can’t see anything resembling a K25
Hi there, sorry for delay. K25 is the internal BMW code for the 1200 GS built until 2013, replaced by the K50. K255 is for the GSA replaced by K51 in 2013. So 2012 is spot on. Good luck! Ideally, the bike has been regularly serviced!
I am attaching my iphone 13 to the front of my helmet any use the cable earphones protected by cloth for the sound. I know, not optimal and yes, I have a Gopro I do not use because of sound recording. I need to buy the Gopro sound option.

@eddysecondhandbiker I’m looking at a 2006 1200GSA. They said the ABS has been replaced already. When you squeeze the front brake and even when you actuate the rear brake, it makes a whining noise. Is this normal? One technician said this is just a brake servo functioning. Thanks
Yes this is normal this is the modulator.. Good maintenance, regular use, the more you drive, the better. Here from Wikipedia: From 2004, the BMW R 1200 GS was available with the optional extra Integral ABS from FTE automotive with brake booster (BKV). Design weaknesses led to a change of model and manufacturer.[4] From mid-August 2006, the BMW R 1200 GS was available with the optional extra Integral ABS from Continental Teves. As problems also became apparent with this ABS brake system, BMW initiated a recall in April 2008, officially described as a "technical conversion campaign", in which the brake lines on the ABS pressure modulator were to be replaced.[5] On May 5, 2010, the Federal Motor Transport Authority published information under the KBA reference number 2895 that this campaign would have to be repeated "with identical circumstances" from model year 2006-2009.[6]
@@secondhandbiker Ben eerlijk gezegd ook geneigd naar een r1200 gsA dohc of model net ervoor te switchen vooral owv de delicate servo remmen. Thanks, probably best to keep it indeed. On German Wikipedia you will find K25 for the air-colled and K50 for the LC. The Adv is K255 not 26 my mistake and K51 for the LC. Lots of safe miles!!
I have this bike k25 /2007 mod . Very good motorcycle I don't have problems except .... gasoline sensor 100.000 klm replaced 2 times 😢 and expensive...
The 1300 is a technological masterpiece with terrific power and torque, a sport adventure tourer. The 1200 is providing a timeless motorbike experience. It slows down time, the 1300 speeds it up. 👍✌️
The biggest POS I ever had. In 2012 I bought my 11/2006 GS. It is lovely to ride (when it does not break down). I have had so many problems, 4 fuel pumps, fuel gauges, balancer seals, lots of tyre pressure sensors, ECU (yes, one ECU!!!), ignition switch, corrosion on engine and fuel cap, leaking front shock, I forget what else, all that before 45000km. The previous owner had the standard rear transmission bearing and ABS. Do not get me started about BMW company, very difficult for them to own issues. While I am at it, the fuel pump issues still not fixed after all the years, high pressure leak, not dangerous they said...and cigarettes do not cause cancer too???? I am sure I forget things but you get my drift. Just one more, they cannot (will not?) provide maintenance on spoke wheels, buy new ones!!!! With these details, BMW know who I am, care to comment????
So sorry to hear this, fuel pump is a recall issue and gauge is known to break down. Sum of issues you have is staggering, time to buy a Honda😅. Spoke wheels can only be serviced a specialists. Keep strong!! 😬👍✌️
To Rodriguez: if you do not know anything, better to keep your mouth shut. For your info, I have been taking VERY good care of my bikes for over 50 years, it is just that BMW R1200s are shit and the company does not care about customers. Just Google R1200 fuel pumps for example. Etc etc...
@@secondhandbiker I forgot to say also, try getting stuck in traffic, after about 20 minutes, it will overheat, the oil will get too hot and the cam chain tensioner s will give up, wonderful engine noise. This is why police bikes have a fan on the oil radiator (of course cannot fit on a GS!!!!) Yes, I am the same guy with the fuel pumps, gauge, ECU , spoke wheels, etc.
If my 1150GS (owned by me for 24 years) died this would be the only bike I'd consider. Had a 1200RT camhead so understand the motor and the LCs are just too much of everything; weight, complexity, price, etc.
Sorry but these bikes don't get 650 KM in ONE tank of Gas. What year is this bike?? I had a 2007 GSA and even with the larger tank they don't get 650 KM.
Same gas tank of 33 litres. I am referring to what the trip computer says. If you cruise at 80-90 kmh, fuel consumption drops to about 4.5 lt/100km. 7x4.5=31.5. = >700km range. Must be same on yours if you have the K 255 GSA. ✌️👍
@@secondhandbiker Sorry but the GS tank does not hold 33 Liters to start with. And the only way you will get 700 KM is if you're going downhill in Neutral. My GSA which has a larger gas tank than a GS got me around 275 miles at the most, that's 442 KM. Yes I drove faster than 90KM/H but still. You will not get 700 Kilometers out of a GS.
33 Liters it is in the 2010 GSA, same in 2007. Mine is a GSA like yours. The GS has 20 liters. Even at 5 liters consumtion > 600 should be easily possible.
@@AB-hx9hs Ive got the 2011 R1200GSA - it definitely has a 33 litre tank and i have done over 600Ks on a single tank multiple times - most i've done is nearer 650ks
@@warrenharrison5052 If 33 Liters equals 8.7 Gallons and 450 KM still equals 403 Miles then I am curious to know how fast you drive to get this. The best the 07 I had ever got was 36 miles to the Gallon, mostly freeway speed. 70-80 miles per hour. Maybe at 60 or 55 miles per hour you will get 400 KM, I don't know.
Thinking about selling my 2008 GS with 100k km. Drive it already 10years now so would like to try something else (but after seeing your video ...), issues I had: ABS pump broken, fuel meassurement sensor broken. Otherwise love it, but missing some horsepowers. Also afraid of the costs that will come after this 100k (Shaft and clutch plates). Also really hate the arrogant BMW dealers. KTM 1290sas not realiable, Honda Africa Twin to slow, Multistrada to expensive, Kawa is a 4cilinder.., Suzuki vstrom 1050 ugly, Triumph? Mhum..
🤓 the answer is simple: get a 1250 and keep the 2008. I have the Africa Twin and slow it is not... and reliable. The AT 1000 after 2018 will do nicely. I have the DCT version. A 1200 LC is also an option. ✌️ Enjoy (pa: No Multistrada for me anymore, Versys 4 cylinder not really, no KTM, BMW is after all your safest bet. )
@@secondhandbiker Thx a lot, love the looks of the (normal, non Adventure sport) AT 1100. Maybe give it a try indeed. Unfortunately no room for two bikes. The 1250 ticks all the boxes, but as I mentioned I don't like the BMW community over here (dentists driving from Starbucks to Starbucks in their Rukka suits) and the dealers only have eye for you when your bike is less then two years old (or when you drive a police RT).
Yeah, my gearbox broke, my handgrip heating and abs pump broke too. mudhugger fell off. only 63 000 k. a 2008 gs, totally love my bike, if it is not broken. .

270tkm wow, impressive. A real workhorse! Thanks for sharing!! 👍✌️
Love mine too. K25 '05, 30tkm. Feels like a brand new bike.
Thanks, wow, only 30k, impressive. Take care ! ✌️👍
Thanks for the video, that is a beautiful area! I have the same bike and renjoy it for all the reasons you mention.
Thanks, anxious to be back on the road.👍✌️
Hello friend i have bought a bmw gsa 1200 2007 and then cause i will go to make a trip in madagascar with it maybe about 5000km distance in all i need some advice with what things like spare parts i have to brings with me?
Which issue can get can you explain me how can i prepare me for this trip thank
Good trip! If you made. full service inluding brke fluid and if you have good tires I cannot imagine what you will need. The worst would probably be a tire leak. Enjoy and have a great time✌️👍
Love the Model area. Toured by car a few years back. But having just picked up a 2015 BMW R1200GS, I am hoping to revisit on two wheels.
Great bike, I have the r1200gs lc as well. Enjoy many safe miles! ✌️😎👌
Last K25 sold are 2013. I have one like yours with 140K Kms on the clock. Safe ride.
Impressive mileage! Yes, 2013 was the switch year to the K50/51. Enjoy the ride!! 👍✌️
Great video! Excellent command of the English language! That's a really nice tour. Must get to know Germany better on my R1200 2008 GSA.
Marcia danse… Thank you, enjoy the big bike! Many more safe miles? Quite a journey from Ireland. ✌️👍
👍
Great area, lived in Krov late 80's, did a lot of riding there.
😎✌️indeed a along the same Mosel river.
bought a 2012 triple black r1200gsa last year/ briliant. best bm ive had.
Nice bike, good choice👍😎
I don't know what I enjoyed more, the review of the bike or the scenery.
Thank you! It was a pleasure to make and ride!! 👍✌️
Excellent take on an awesome machine!
Thank you! 👍✌️
I do the same driving through the grape vines in the Barossa valley here in South Australia
Let’s swap one day 😅✌️👍
i have 2012 r1200 gs and i'm keeping it as my road bike for longer trips
Great for travel! 👍
Hi! Do you think that the 2008/2010 mono can is good as well? Thankyou so much.
The 650 Rotax is robust fun and can be found in the Voge 650. Timeless!! ✌️👍
I ride the 2008. With 82.000 Km on th clock no issues. The great bike.
great, 👍✌️
2009 R1200GSA Bought last year with 27,000km, have been off road with it too, using Motoz Tractionator Adventure tyres
And no esa.
Yes, fully agree. A timeless piece of art!!
very good videos an cool intro keep it going
Thank you!!
I just bought a 2009 R1200GS, (5k miles). Is mine a K25? Haven’t ridden it yet…performing all the maintenance first.
👍K25 or K255 for the Adv model✌️
@@secondhandbiker not an Adventure so I must have a K25. BIG THANK YOU!
Agree for a part, had the same one model 2008 GSA. But the R1200GSA LC was a bit better after all. Better suspension and engine.
Thanks, it ages well, the LC see my video is a great ADV, actually the 1250GSA may not be necessary. Have a great time!!✌️👍
Beautifully engineered.
Yes my 2010 as been so good..trouble free with 145,000 kilo ..
Great mileage!! Enjoy👍✌️
@@secondhandbiker Thanks for that✌
Love the GS, but Mosul is one of my favorite areas to ride in Germany. Used to live in Ramstein.
Thanks, yes the Mosel area is fantastic. Spang is not far from here. 👍✌️
Mosul 😅 sorry thought it was a typo...
Wow, incredible. Thanks for sharing. They are made to be on the road, the more, the better!!!😎👍
I’ve done the frontsplines the two times I’ve lubricated the driveshshaft. Takes just a couple of minuts more.
@@secondhandbiker thanks mate, that’s very helpful
Hi there, what is the mount you are using to record this video?
I am attaching my iphone 13 to the front of my helmet any use the cable earphones protected by cloth for the sound. I know, not optimal and yes, I have a Gopro I do not use because of sound recording. I need to buy the Gopro sound option.
I have the K25.... your bike is the 1200 GS Adventure. Not the K25. But still almost the best bike. The K25 is so awesome
Yes the K255, great bikes 👍✌️
Where is this place where do you film?
Neumagen Dhron Germany - Greetings to Romania✌️👍
My favorite sounding starter motor❤
It shakes and rock 'n rolls 🤣👍✌️
Eddy , that was a nice ride with beautiful scenery. Is it possible to mount a fix camera…I was a little dizzy! 🤣🤣 I ride a GS 1250 in Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦 Thanks, ride safe! 😉🏍
Yes, thanks, I am still experimenting and have my i phone on my helmet to give a riders view. Tu parles le francais alors 👍 Spring is arriving, enjoy the 1250! Great bike! ✌️
@@secondhandbiker Oui, je suis bilingue. 😉
As problems also became apparent with this ABS brake system, BMW initiated a recall in April 2008, officially described as a "technical conversion campaign", in which the brake lines on the ABS pressure modulator were to be replaced.[5] On May 5, 2010, the Federal Motor Transport Authority published information under the KBA reference number 2895 that this campaign would have to be repeated "with identical circumstances" from model year 2006-2009.[6]
Thank you!
I agree it is a top bike. But why not choosing the r1150GsA as best bmw?
Thank you!
Thank you.
The Adventure model isn't a K26 but a K255.
K26 is the RT model.
Danke, richtig. Kam irgendwie nicht drauf.
I have a 2011 DOHC , the best bike I ever had, no need for a upgrade
👍 indeed, BMW is reviving the engine with the new R12 after the R NineT. Buying a K25 is a better solution 😎✌️
I’m on a 22 plate 1250 GSA with 33K-it just gets better the more miles I do
Take the point on the 1200 though
👍😎 time goes slower on the 2010 😅 and I also enjoy my 1250! Going 1300 Adv?
@@secondhandbiker love to but can’t afford it-the miles on my bike has reduced its value 😂🙄
I have over 100,000 miles on my 2010 1200GS. Not worth much on the used market so I’m keeping it. I’ve never heard of K25/K26 before, must be a European thing.
Thanks, probably best to keep it indeed. On German Wikipedia you will find K25 for the air-colled and K50 for the LC. The Adv is K255 not 26 my mistake and K51 for the LC. Lots of safe miles!!
Nevada!
I have this bike k25 /2007 mod . Very good motorcycle I don't have problems except .... gasoline sensor 100.000 klm replaced 2 times 😢 and expensive...
Indeed, a common problem. Thanks for sharing.
They have a 2023 fuel strip now that has a special coating on it now so it does not go out, look it up,thanks Mark 😊
I was lucky enough to have a 2011 GS1200 for my first bike and have absolutely no intention of changing it - amazing on and off road! 😃
Great to hear! Lucky you, my first GS was at 60 after a lot of trial and error. 👍✌️ Keep safe and strong😎
Thanks! What is your verdict on the difference between this and the new 1300 GS?
The 1300 is a technological masterpiece with terrific power and torque, a sport adventure tourer. The 1200 is providing a timeless motorbike experience. It slows down time, the 1300 speeds it up. 👍✌️
Had my 2011 GSA since new and I just would not part with it. ‘The’ best do it all, on and off road bike ever built 👍
Wow, part of the family now. Wish you all the best and lots of safe miles! 👍✌️
Should I sell my R1150GS for one of these?
Certainly not. If you are happy with your 1150, no reason to change. 👍😎
@@secondhandbiker thanks
Maybe somebody isn’t take care as he should of his bike
@@ChristianGuitard-v7f, don’t need to google anything, I have the bike instead hear others.
I'm agree...man
👍
Had a liquid cooled sold it to switch back to a late aircooled.
Thanks for your comment, quite a proof of trust! Enjoy many many miles of fun!!
If my 1150GS (owned by me for 24 years) died this would be the only bike I'd consider. Had a 1200RT camhead so understand the motor and the LCs are just too much of everything; weight, complexity, price, etc.
Congrats! I looked at the 1150 recently , I love the design and the overall bike. Enjoy!!Normally they last forever👍✌️
Varahannes just completed 525000km on his 2016 AT with DCT. 👍
