  • My review of the PioneerWorks 6" Random Orbital Sander from Amazon, with features and capabilities similar to top tier sanders like the new 3M Xtract, Festool, and Mirka Deros sanders (but at a fraction of the price), as well as the similarly priced MAXXT 6" Random Orbital Sander. I compare its features and capabilities against my knowledge of top tier sanders like the 3M, Mirka, and Festool sanders gained from reviews and other woodworkers. Actual operation is directly compared to my Dewalt random orbital sander.

    I got the Hueborly Electric one, did a video like you unboxing it a few weeks back, same exact as yours! Love it but I have a major issue with dust collection and that hose.. it doesn't jus whistle, it makes a stupid high pitched screaming whine! really annoying! other than that I love the sander! There are others that are just a few bucks more that the read out isn't digital numbers, but just a light bar, and the vac attachment is set back farther and looks like a MUCH better setup for hose attachment! I did actually find a 1" hose that can sorta fit over the top and not inside, but there is very little area for it to grip and stay on! It's actually a Washing Machine drain hose, but it works, tad stiff but better than the squeal the little stock hose does. I'm going to be doing a full review on the unit in a few weeks after some more use. I will say Hueborly Electric has been working with me and even offered a full refund, just for these annoyance, which I didn't take as I kinda like the sander otherwise. we'll see in long term! I might try the slightly more $ Phendo or MaxXT for that few bucks more and see if the dust collection is actually better?

      Yeah, I saw that one too, they look almost identical. I knew immediately that hose was junk. In fact, I think I said so the minute I pulled it out of the box. I have a friend who makes custom 3D printed stuff, so I'm going to ask him to make an adapter for me to use my Rockler hose on it. I still haven't gotten any Xtract paper for it, but I suspect that will make a really big difference as well. I just used it this weekend on a custom job I'm working on, and dust collection aside, I really like this sander. Such a huge upgrade from my Dewalt in every other way, and for a fraction of the price you'd pay for the big brands names. I saw that MaxxT as well. Looking forward to seeing how it performs if you do try it out.

    I have that one too. The Mirka-nets fits. I think it´s a bit backheavy with a normal hose attatched. And I also think it is a bit lightweight for coarser grit paper, I prefer the 5" for that.

      I feel like almost any sander feels back heavy with a DC hose attached, but I've not tried an expensive one yet. I'm considering getting a Mirka Deros though. I would consider a Festool, but I like the paddle switch and lower profile of this one, the Deros, 3M, etc. Just feels better in my hand.

    Great video. I have seen videos with these types of sanders and wanted to know what the big deal was. I have been looking past them because of the price. That price I can go with. I would like to see what it's like with the other paper. Thanks for the info.

    • @maverickdesignswoodworking
      @maverickdesignswoodworking  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. I've used it more since then, and it works great. I love that it has virtually no torque or vibration that can be felt while sanding. I haven't used it with the cubitron paper yet, but I have no doubt it will greatly increase the dust collection. The biggest downside is that dust collection port and the crappy hose that comes with it, but I'm working on some things to improve that. It's good for what it is, a much cheaper version of a way more expensive sander. You just have to be ok with the little shortcomings that come with the dramatically lower price. I'd rather use this than a sub 100 dollar ROS for sure.

    I have the Phendo version, which is very similar, just yellow. It is fantastic for the price. I used a Mirka at a trade show and it was nice, but the guys are the Mirka booth we’re jerks. Since that experience I have vowed to never buy Mirka. When I found the Phendo I jumped on it. No regrets.

    • @maverickdesignswoodworking
      @maverickdesignswoodworking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, as far as how it works, i suspect it's very similar to the Mirka. Like I said in the video, the only thing I would change is the dust collection, but I suspect that will even be solved once I get better paper and the right extension on my hose. Having the support of a big name behind it and someone to call if something goes wrong would be nice, but I'm ok with not having that at a fraction of the price. i liken it to opting out of paying for the extra extended warranty, but in this case the warranty triples the cost of the item. I'm still new to this one and haven't had a chance to actually use it in a project yet, but so far I'm very happy with the purchase. Thanks for watching!

      @@maverickdesignswoodworking from what I can see in the images, the Phendo and the MaxXT are slightly different, maybe better for a couple bucks more. they have a light bar for speeds instead of the number read out, but the dust shoot sits back farther and seems like a much better implementation that the Pioneer or Hueborly Electric. I have the Hueborly Electric and the thing is awesome but dust collection is rather lacking with that annoying hose setup and squeal!

      @maverickdesignswoodworking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Thomllama Yup. Hopefully that will be solved when I get the 3D printed adapter.

      Oh finally, someone that actually bought the Phendo.
      I've been considering it for my home shop.
      Porter Cable's corded sander used to be good but when my last one died the new one was sub par.
      Is it possible to replace the 6"pad with a 5" on the Phendo?
      My biggest concern with the less expensive sanders is "wobble". Any issues there?

    • @maverickdesignswoodworking
      @maverickdesignswoodworking  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This one isn't a Phendo its PioneerWorks, though i suspect the two are very similar. I've been using it for months now and haven't noticed any wobble. I've even dropped it a few times and It still works very well for me. The worst thing about it is the dust collection, but I've figured out how to improve that. I have a video about it from a month or so ago.

    I'm thinking of buying one of these. Are they reliable, and do you think it will stand a lot of use?

    • @maverickdesignswoodworking
      @maverickdesignswoodworking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Maria. I've been using mine for several months so far with no problems. I would think that it also depends greatly on what your idea of a lot of use is. If you use it a couple hours a day, a few days a week, as I do, then my experience is that it will stand up to that use. If you're talking about several hours a day, five or six days a week, I'd say it might, but that's probably not a realistic expectation. That being said, you have to consider what you're paying for. There is no warranty or guarantee, nowhere to get support or buy parts. If your primary consideration is to get a good sander that performs similarly to a much more expensive sander, but save some money, and your expectations are realistic, I'd recommend it. But, if your primary consideration is that you need a sander for heavy use that you know will be a reliable tool that will last a very long time, I'd recommend you buy a Festool, Mirka, or 3M. I hope that helps.

      @maverickdesignswoodworking Thank you for your helpful reply. It's good to know that you use it quite often, and it's still going strong. I was just worried that it may have had issues like the Maxxt sander, which is unreliable, and stops working after very little use! It should be alright for the amount I will use it (maybe a few times per month). I was impressed with It when I watched your review of it (which was a great review, by the way). I've ordered one from amazon to help me with renovating my house. Thanks once again 👍🙂

      @maverickdesignswoodworking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it's been fine for me, but I have had viewers who have said they had problems with it. It's probably like anything else you get from Amazon that comes from China-- in most cases its fine, but sometimes a bad one slips through. I'd suggest using it a few times as soon as you get it, so in case you do have any problems with it, you can exchange or return it before the window closes.

    I wonder how these "3m xtract clones" compare to the bosh GET or GEX 6" ROS. Reason being that the bosh versions are also around the $200 mark and reviews similarly to mirka and festool.

    • @maverickdesignswoodworking
      @maverickdesignswoodworking  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure, as I've never used them, but I have heard good things about them as well. I don't think they have the minimal vibration performance like this one and those others, though.

    do you have to turn on the vaucum or the sender just poosh automatic the dust to the vacum?

    Bought that thing a few days ago and immediately returned it. I A/B tested it against my DeWalt 5” random orbital sander. I had two equal sized pieces of plywood cut from the same stock. I drew lines on them and timed how long it would take to sand the lines away with 80 grit. The Dewalt sanded it away in literally half the time. So frustrating. I wanted that thing to be great.

    • @maverickdesignswoodworking
      @maverickdesignswoodworking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, I wonder if there was something wrong with it? Were you using it at the highest speed? I had exactly the opposite results at the highest speed. At low speed, or 4000 rpm, I had similar results-- the pioneerworks took twice as long. But at high speed, or 10k Rpm (compared to 12k for the dewalt) there was no competition. The pioneerworks clearly removed a lot more material a lot faster-- about half the time. I could literally see the dust accumulating around the disc as I was sanding, and that was with 220. One of the reasons I bought this was because I never felt the Dewalt was efficient enough, which would lead me to getting impatient and putting more pressure on it.

    • @BluesmaNeedham
      @BluesmaNeedham ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maverickdesignswoodworking yea I used it at the highest setting. Maybe it’s a quality control thing. Maybe some come off the assembly line and function better than others.
      I’m happy to hear that your experience was better than mine. Maybe I just got a dud.

    • @maverickdesignswoodworking
      @maverickdesignswoodworking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BluesmaNeedham Yeah, you're probably right. That sucks, I wish you had a better experience. I guess that's probably par for the coarse with these type of things. Like I said it's a bit of gamble to begin with, but at the same time you're paying a fraction of the cost for something similar (if you get a good one) to the much more expensive brands. Are you considering trying another one?

      While I don't disagree, most people, myself included, would love to have a Mirka instead, but just can't afford a 750 dollar sander either.
