Great video. I’m just completing my 36x48x16 pole barn in Indiana. Everything has been more than I expected cost wise. Spray foam on just the walls was $6k, electrical was around $8k, a 3’ apron of concrete to transition into the barn and a rock driveway was an extra $3k. You’re breakdown is pretty accurate! Wish I would’ve seen this video before I started mine. Would’ve had less of a shock!
I has close cell foam sprayed on the ceiling and for insulation it's great. However, there is no sound deafening so when it rains hard, you will have a hard time with noise. Sometimes it's loud enough I have to go outside to talk on my phone. My building is 1200 sqft and the cost was about $3000.
Also, metal is noisy as it will echo more than flat wood. There is a coated plywood that is used inside confinement livestock buildings that can take moisture, even be sprayed down with power washer. Look into that as an interior surface. Will you be painting or welding in your shop? If so, will you need a ventilation system? Not sure of your winter temps, but how cold do you get there? What heat source will you use in the shop?
Soon as we moved to out our rural property I built a 2000 sq foot shop attached to the house. ( 30 by 70 ) I live in that thing. Its great, especially the attached to the house part. Ok, 4 things right away. #1, beer fridge, #2 massive flat screen, #3 some couches and lame a pool table. #4 a nice sound system so your rich neighbour across the street can hear you play your Black Sabbath. Metal on the inside may make it to echoey and loud on the inside. Maybe choose a more sound absorbent material like particle board and paint it. Ceiling fans, and do you have roof vents? I didn't see any. Are they on the back side of the roof? Reinforce a few roof joists in key locations for a block and tackle set up so you can hoist stuff with chains from the ceiling. For damp times of the year a small wood stove works awesome and is cheap to set up. Not sure if you weather will require that. We up here in Canada need something to keep tings dry in fall and spring time.
Beautiful very good job I’m looking to do the same thing but for commercial truck and not wide as the truck and the trailer I want to just for the trucks how much do you think will be with metal frame not wood thank u
Nice! Really appreciate the cost breakdown. I was curious as its on the bucket list for many of us. Im really excited to see how you make this your own space, and future content! Well done, my man! Keep up the great work!
I’m not sure what state you live in, I’m an electrical contractor in Massachusetts. If you’re metering it separately and it’s considered commercial you can get some huge rebates on LEDs. If you buy them from a supply shop they add the rebate into the cost so you don’t have to do any paper work and wait for a check it’s just applied off the top.
I agree with Bryan I do insulation for a living and for a shop that is what I would recommend cause if you use fiberglass you would need a humidifier cause the building will sweat
Just built 50 x 50 barn. When complete, it was just too damn hot in there. Went with closed.cell spray in, man what a difference. Coupe of times, 92 outside, about inside 78 inside. With fans, comfortable. Great decision. Cost $4500. Down side- feel like I’m inside an igloo cooler, or maybe yeti. Finishing out the interior with both shiplap and metal.
Does a 12ft rafter height allow for use of a lift at full height? In other words, will you be able to lift a vehicle fully to be able to stand under it while working?
I'm assuming I'll just have to talk to a contractor but I have a carport next to my 2 stall garage that I'm guessing I could fit another 2stall or 1.5 stall garage everything is paved already about how much would that be? It's attached so I'd have to redo the roof lining and add electrical to it
Put your electrical and air lines on the metal siding you put on the inside walls.. That way you can service it, modify the layout, or add to it without tearing up the walls. Easy to modify your shop areas as you adapt. (Only thing inside the walls should be the insulation.)
Around 11:46 and it was about $46k for the concrete/building/doors, but still needs electrical, lights, insulation. I bet it's just over 60k all said and done.

if it were me spending the money on this, and maybe you've thought of this, i would spray foam the walls, and finish the inside with two different materials. i would take sheets of 3/4 plywood on the wall for the first course and put the 8FT length vertically that way in the future you can put hangers anywhere you need them for what ever you need them for and i would put all electrical near the top of said plywood in conduit so its easy to splice into and add outlets for other things just to make things easier down the road. once its in the wall under spray foam its gonna be hard to add outlets. no matter how much planning you do now for electrical and air lines, after using the building you'll see that you'll need a hook up here or there that you didn't think about.

That’s crazy high. Even with mine. The guy said I could park a tractor in the shop and be plenty strong. He built another pad for a customer the same concrete but 6 inches thick and that holds up to 80K semi’s no problem. I’d like to eventually put a lift in mine. Let’s just say your total cost so far is just for my building. A few thousand less actually. So nice shop though.
Just found your channel, I know this is a older video, congratulations on your new shop, it is a great shop, they did a good job, I know how you feel about your shop, I built my shop in 2012 before I retired, it is 36×32, I always wanted a shop, I have a 31 model a and 66 C10 in my shop, good luck with your shop and future projects, subscribed.
Great mancave! appreciate the cost breakdown and the honesty of the project oversights. I didnt see in pictures or anything.. Do you have any plumbing?? extend a spigot at a minimum. Phase 3 item right? lol Greasy grimey hands, a quick rinse of the floor, etc. My little garage is attached to my house and what I wouldn't give for a utility sink..
Very nice shop build! I had a shop about that size and what happened in the winter when it snowed and snow piled up on the roof it would slide off and block the door ways. Some times a;most landed on top of me. So if you in a snowy area that would be a good idea to have an over hang.

Don’t feel bad on the price. I’m getting a 30x60 metal post shop delivered to my house next month. Including a 4,000 PSI 5 inch concrete slab. What is the PSI rating for yours?
5000 he says
Thank you. It was so nice to finally get some needed room. Sounds like you have some cool cars in yours.
I didn't put plumbing in as I will not have water in the shop. I'm super close to the house and rarely used it before. Wasn't worth the added hassle
Very nice shop build! I had a shop about that size and what happened in the winter when it snowed and snow piled up on the roof it would slide off and block the door ways. Some times a;most landed on top of me. So if you in a snowy area that would be a good idea to have an over hang.
Thank you. We rarely see snow
So how much was everything all together?
Building and concrete was 44k
Looks amazing. Did that concrete cost include the excavation and tree removal on the site?
Thank you. Yes on dirt work. No on tree removal
That's a nice garage.. man plenty of room to turn wrenches and do some serious wrenching.. you have plenty of room to put in a rotisserie for frame off restorations...
Thank you. Yes the room I have been needing
Looks great. Can’t wait to see it finished.
Thank you Ron. Me too
Any reason you went wood over steel?
Didn't really have a preference but my builder I found did stick frame so that's the direction I went
Just came across your video. Thanks for the info, best video yet on cost of a shop build! Awesome Shop!
Thank you
Use osb on the inside. Easier to attach cabinets etc to.
I may eventually
Hi Travis, new subscriber. Im looking for yiur video where you installed an auxilliary ATF for a red camero. I need to learn how to do this so I can add one to my son's and my 78 Z28 Camero. Thanks. LBK P🌻
It's on my trans am.
Nice set up... How many cars would you say you can store in the shop having 45x50' of space? Good luck and enjoy it all!!
I think I could cram 10 with no room but 7 with lots of room
Congratulations on the building. it’s one of the best investments for your property
Thank you. I can't wait to work in it
You did good with the cost!
Thank you
Lucky looks good
Thank you
It's very nice,
Thank you
Amazon has really nice and cost effective LED lighting. I went way overkill in my 4 car and it cost me $150 with a mix of 8’ and 4’ fixtures. I can grab a link but I want to say the 8’ fixtures were $100 shipped.
Actually have lights now but thank you
Link lol
Hey could you tell me the name of manufacturer for the metal building kit maybe a contact #
