How to take MOODY PORTRAITS (Behind the Scenes - Hasselblad X2D Lightweight Portrait Kit)

- In this photography tutorial, I shoot two portrait photoshoots, one in a studio with flash lighting and the other mixing ambient light with flash in an environmental portrait using the Hasselblad X2D Medium Format camera and the lightweight portrait kit.

Brilliant video. So good to see a pro at work and the shots - both how they were taken and the results, are phenomenal. I don't do portraits, so I bought the earlier kit, the Adventure Light Field Kit, X2D, XCD 45p, XCD 4/21 which is AMAZING! The firmware update (v2.0) added live histogram as well as focus peaking and a number of other great things. The X2D is just wonderful. Thanks for another super video.

Wow - what an incredible channel! There's plenty of gear focused videos out there on the internet, and there's also some good motivated lighting stuff but rarely do they combine the details of why you are choosing to shoot in a certain and very intentional way. It's usually either quite washy as to why the lighting and positioning choices are made or it's all about the gear and technical details but this is probably the best blend I have ever seen and the images are just phenomenal too. Instant sub!

I love that you give all your settings and the Why of them! One question though, in the situations with split/blended light, how did you handle white balance?

Beautiful work! I also own the X2D. I'm primarily a landscape photographer, but have my first studio portrait session tomorrow. I'm a little confused as to how I will set up my focus point in-camera. Could you please elaborate just a bit as to how you set up your focus point in the camera?

There's a few videos I'd wish for or like you to do. 1) A full on portrait post processing video showing the exact " constant" steps/procedure you use every time.
2)
A colour portrait taken with the intention of producing the best contrasty black and white image from said colour image capture. Again, highlighting every step you'd use in order to achieve this contrasty image.

With the Hasselblad you don't have to switch each time from AF to MF after and before AF focusing,
you simply remain always in MF and AF refocus when needed with the AF back button while staying in MF

Amazing photography job, beautiful model, and if you don’t have a snoot, you can make one out of tin foil.
Word of caution for the having the fabric close to the light setup - turn the modeling lamp off or the fabric will catch on fire. Speaking from experience. If you use those foam core boards, especially the black ones, be careful as well, they are extremely flammable.

Yeah but for less $$ you can get an A9iii and shoot flash at 1/8000 AND not give money to DJI which treats their customers like dirt! Just sayin. Also, your camera link is 404ed...FYI Cool pics.
24mp, iso noise, colors like a Samsung phone, and still plastic...
however i love sony for their Technically advanced Technology... I even worked for them until last year... but you cant really compare MF with the small so called "full frame"

JFYI it's mostly joke. I understand that you can take similar shots with my Nikon D750 (maybe a little worse than with Hasselblad)

100mp is not flattering and of small use to most of portrait photographers.. how true?
I have found there are no rules in art. It is all in the eye of the beholder some might consider what you did as art while others may think of it as a snapshot on a multi thousand dollar camera and consider it over kill.
'we will be shooting at f/8 ... to get those beautiful smooth background at 1.8' nuff said. Snake oil anyone, snakeoil for cheap, only on sale today.
