I trust you. Fair play for getting a Hasselblad and putting a very clear disclaimer front and centre. During your previous 200+ videos, you have established your integrity and getting a free camera does not compromise this in my opinion. Enjoy and always interested to hear your no-nonsense opinions on your new piece of kit
I think reaching out to the company first before making a negative comment in your video is very reasonable. Love the video and have no problem at all with you using a camera given to you by a company. In fact, I'm happy for you! You're very honest and transparent about it all and you've built up a level of trust with your community over the years. I LOVED seeing your mum knitting!
I don't own a Fujifilm anymore but I still watch you, the Hasselblad is recognition for all the work you've put into the videos you've made over the years. People will talk and no matter what you say otherwise someone will always be negative. Enjoy your Hasselblad and I'll continue watching no matter which camera you have in your hand. I've kept watching for you and the really good information you provide, not because of the camera in your hand, cheers!
props to you for actually saying this video is "sponsored" by hasselblad. not getting any cash but still getting the gear counts as payment despite what many others might say
It's very unusual to give away such high end gear, most companies just loan equipment for a review. The only exception is usually cheap accessories or very budget lenses.
I’ve just got back from three weeks in Japan, having visited many of the same places you went to. It’s incredible to see how you have a different view on the same things that I photographed. That tiny little fire station on Miyajima also caught my eye! I was travelling with a Sony 7R3 with 12 to 24 mm F2.8 GM lens and the original 24 to 70 GM lens. I used the 12 to 24 mm almost exclusively and I’ve returned with almost 8500 42 megapixel photos which are going to be a complete nightmare to deal with. I can’t imagine how it would be with 100 megapixel images!
I cannot get enough of hearing you break down scenes and describing what grabbed your attention or what you're waiting to see come into frame. I'm very new to photography and that sort of content is gold. Thank you!
Great job Roman! I think that the photos you show here are among the nicest you've ever showed on a TH-cam video, especially the one at 11:10, that feels special.
Really appreciate your honesty and humility, not everyone would tell it like it is. Definitely seems like a “nice to have if you can afford it” camera.
100% respect your professionalism and honesty, particularly with the manufacturer. Reaching out to them first when you have a critique is pure professionalism. Great review.
First of all, I really loved your shots. Especially how you used the metal railing and pane of glass to compose. But I gotta be honest, this is probably the first time I've gotten jealous of a sponsorship, ever. The X2D and 55mm lens is my absolute dream setup. As it stands, the only way for me to afford that any time soon would be selling all my other gear I've worked hard to acquire and that, I just can't do. I'd sell half of it, but that sadly isn't enough. It is so cool to see that Hasselblad does this and gave you the camera. I hope you use it more in the future and share more of your thoughts on it as time goes on.
Doesn’t matter what TH-cam’s say… anyone who’s used this camera in a professional setting or as for a hobby will tell you it’s pretty much phenomenal. Are there there cameras that are faster better for specific jobs… absolutely. I’ve used the original x1d when it came out for my own wedding photos. Only to buy the x1dii 8 years later. I since sold the x1dii and acquired an x2d and 55v with my own cash. I’m not a pro anymore or do loads of client work although I do some paid gigs here and there. The camera is just IMO SECOND TO NONE. I like the gfx100ii when I rented it but it doesn’t have sole and is a bit boring to look at and use. Glad the x2d doesn’t have video, the internal storage is amazing, the image quality is mind blowing and it’s a whole different style of shooting. I have a second battery and while it does run out faster than other cameras, I shoot own with… I usually just power down the camera or have it set to power down after 3 min of not using it. I was in NYC and shot all day using one battery no real issues. But it’s good to have a spare if you need it.
I haven’t read through all the comments, so maybe someone else has had the same idea. However, I loved the xpan crop shots that you took. Whilst it seems ridiculous to use such an amazing tool to crop to xpan, it gives you the required resolution to scale the panoramic images. I’d love to see you use it more to experiment with the digital xpan format in your genre. I could see you adding a whole new dimension to your body of work. Keep up the great work!
Straight to the point with the disclamer at the beginning was great. And let's all be honest, who'd turn down a free Hassleblad? My dream camera for the studio portraits I shoot.
I was looking for a good review on the Hasselblad X2D, and this was very helpful, but... can we please take a moment to acknowledge some of the amazing photos that you took, especially at 3:42 min, also 5:25 min and 26:22. That shows real skill, no matter what camera you used. Hats off to you...
I appreciate the disclaimer and completely trust your perspective; your integrity is well established. I also think it’s fair to give Hasselblad a chance to respond to any criticism-misinformation spreads so easily these days. Let’s be real: we’d all prefer people come directly to us with feedback so we have a chance to address it, if needed. I currently own a Hasselblad X2D, and I absolutely LOVE it! Some say gear isn’t everything, but this camera gives me extra confidence thanks to the stunning images it produces, allowing me to focus more on composition. 13:14 ---->>> By the way, you might already know this, but you can press in on the dial below the power button to adjust the focus point. Then, you can move it up and down with that dial, and left and right with the one under the shutter button. Not exactly a joystick, but it’s a nice option! P.S. I LOVE Japan. Tokyo is my favourite city. It is the closest city that matches my personality. The culture is beautiful, and it's just so damn calming.
I think the very clear and transparent nature of the disclaimer makes it pretty clear the video will be fair. Good on you for getting an awesome bit of kit though and some gorgeous shots from it.
Hey Roman Kudo's for being up front right at the start of this vid. At the end of the day ppl will have to make a decision on you integrity as a creator. You have no control over that if ppl have followed and watched enough of your content then they'll know that you're pretty upfront and in my opinion honest...... You got some great shots! Enjoy the camera....you've earned it...
I've watched your channel for years, as I love your street photography style. While I'm just a tiny bit envious, more power too you on earning this camera through your channel and hard work! Certainly inspires me to work just that bit harder, maybe one day! For now, I'm still fuji!
Congrats on the camera! I really enjoyed the photos as well. Looking forward to more videos about it and more photos. For me and my shooting style, this is a perfect camera. Maybe one day I will be able to get one.
Firstly congratulations on getting a high enough profile that you now have a high end manufacturer sending you cameras and wanting you to try them etc. I don't think anyone who has followed you for a while would doubt your integrity because Hassleblad sent you product but there is always someone. Secondly thanks for a review that feels properly real world, not going to buy the camera because it is (way too expensive) but food for thought when I win the lottery 😂
Roman, fuck what people think. Anyone that cares or supports you wouldn't miss a beat. If you can do the things you do and share your journeys along the way then we are grateful and we should appreciate the time you take out of your holiday to share that with us. Any haters out there need to just find another youtuber to follow and take their negativity with them. I'm jealous, I envy you but god bless man, you deserve it. Let the haters hate. Look where you are and look where they are.
Traditionally Hasselblad have always made cameras aimed at studio or tripod landscape use, and this camera gives the impression they haven't quite got the hang of making a camera with the ergonomics for prolonged hand held use. I don't know whether you've used any of the GFX cameras but they seem better in that respect, although I've only had a quick play with them in the Fujifilm showroom in Covent Garden. The white balance seems a bit off in some of the photos, particularly the rainy or overcast ones.
Ive been handholding it the whole trip and it's honestly fine for me. but I can see why some people will not like it in that regard. The colour shift was on purpose
Great video Roman. I like the fact that you were totally upfront out of the gate about your arrangements with Hasselblad. Used medium format camera most of my career but never liked Hasselblad. Finally I honestly think you’re the best street photographer on You Tube. Keep up the great work.
Roman, great video, and it seems like the camera compliments well with your photography. The images are rendered beautifully, probably that's also because of hassel's lenses which are spoken highly of.
Thanks so much for the video. I enjoyed the video and commentary immensely. Smart of Hasselblad to do this type of marketing. Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sony don't have to market this way. People know the brands and can afford the cameras. It's a great way to call attention to their excellent cameras. Just hand them to outstanding photographers. The photographs do the rest. Sorry for the negative comments. They are unwarranted. Thanks for sharing your work.
Love the video, also congratulations btw! I find it so hilarious how you said no cliche fotos of railways and trains and right after the next two shots were just that! 😂 Shots turn out fire tho so no complaints
Excellent video Roman. If you make it to Osaka, I recommend Namba at night, tons of people walking the covered walkways and along the river not far to the north, tons of shops and restaurants.
very good disclaimer. I think the right of reply terms from Hasselblad are fair - and it doesn't mean you cannot share concerns about the camera with us, if you had any.
You don’t gotta assign custom fn button for screen off, just single press the power button for standby mode! Best feature of a power button vs switch! SL3 has same design also!
Brilliant intro and you covered it off well. You have put the hard graft in for years and if a company wants to push its product and give you something for free. Take it. Besides not seen any GfX material from you might prompt Fuji to do the same. Cracking Vid.
I'm not the target market for this camera, as a avid hobbyist, but I appreciate the review of the camera. Truthfully I don't know it would fit in with what I like shoot. Nice that you mention that you might need to upgrade hard drives, computers when dealing with file size from such a camera.
First off, I'm kinda of the opinion that every one of us would jump at the opportunity to even use that camera, much less be given one under reasonable circumstances. Second, a parallel I think of in comparing this camera to others is akin to comparing different levels of headphones. Top quality headphones simply bring out more of the characteristics and nature of the music. This camera, even with any foibles associated with larger format instruments, by the nature of the larger sensor with the refined color science, does the same, bringing out great detail, nuance and character in whatever shot one takes. It would be a pleasure "adapting" my street style to get the best out of such a fine camera
Fantastic photos thus far (I haven't finished the video yet)! About your segment about trusting or not your review... I'm pretty positive most people won't ever even consider getting a hasselblad due to how unaffordable they are... So I don't even care if I trust you or not on what you're saying... I'll just enjoy the blogging and most importantly the photography
I am also shooting with an x t5 and love the system. I then bought an old gfx 50s and was amazed about the picture quality. But then I compared it to my x t5 and the differences were minor, so I thought it must be a psychological thing that I adore the medium format quality. But each time I shoot the gfx I’m absolutely stunned again. So there is something, richer colours, better microcontrast, I don’t know. Anyway i am glad owning both cameras and will keep them. I think its a mood thing wich to use. How is your experience?
Wow this is a collaboration we did not see coming! Big fan of your work and no nonsense POVs Roman, many congratulations! Will probably never get a Hassleblad but loved each and every bit of this video! Also hope to join you for a photowalk, someday :)
I currently am an avid follower of your work particularly as I am a Fuji shooter and there is always something relatable and something to learn from. Whilst it was interesting to hear your view of the camera but did not find it informative and or relatable. Understanding what your primary target is moving forward is something that will be of interest particularly to me and possibly other Fuji shooters
My primary target is sharing my photography and the process behind it regardless if it's a Fuji, Hasselblad or an iPhone. The last thing I want is to be followed solely based on what brand camera I use
Thomas Heaton, James Popsys, and now you got a Hasselblad. But your video on the camera was the most interesting one IMHO. And I really appretiate your descriptions of the way you composed various photos, you should do this more often!
Roman! 🙂 Congrats on another engaging, very helpful, very honest and down-to-earth review. But let's cut to the chase, shall we? Your mom is great! 🙂 She seems to be a calm, grounding, and quite fashionable traveling companion, nonchalantly doing her thing in the background while you vlog away. My warm regards to her. Fun that she's such a key component to your recent videos. As to the camera: a) love how you pull brilliant shots out of a massive, empty hall with the seemingly simple move of using the handrail - we can all take pro tips like this and incorporate them into our daily routines, learning again how to "see" a scene and leverage what's available; b) unfortunate that the Hasselblad is slow, clunky and perhaps not the best tool for the street stuff - yes, it's too beautiful for words, but I can't see lugging that box around just for the extra MP; c) would be helpful (but not absolutely necessary for clarity) if you'd show the actual color science created by the H first and then any edits you've made in LR - just feels a step was skipped, and I've found it so miraculous in the recent H marketing campaigns by influencers (who received free gear) to see the gorgeous colouring produced by this high-tech piece of kit. Thanks for the work you put in - you've got credibility and charm, which makes for entertaining, informative videos. Over and out.
Well done mate, good reward and that from an enviable camera and brand. I would have done the same. Enjoy the camera it’s a beast and give us some continued Hassalblad content.
100% faith in your sincerity and ethics Roman 👍 wow those photos are amazing and the cinematic look is just incredible. As you say not the best type of camera for street photography but if you have one or indeed can afford one then why not. As for Japan, wow wow wow ❤
Thanks for sharing - congrats on scoring the gear! Hard work pays off. Some nice captures as well on your trip - love JP! Medium format is niche and can see carrying it for commercial use. Not sure it is well utilised getting that pixel count and clarity but cranking the grain up to 15+ in LR edits post to make it look like film though.
this video once again reminds me how much i would love the ability to shoot in xpan crop natively. Feels like the medium format bug is just hovering on top of my head and about to give me a big bite any time now.
This is pretty smart of Hasselblad, since most people, including influencers, wouldn’t pay that much for a camera. And since it’s a really awesome camera, they’re basically converting a lot of photographers to the brand with a free camera deal. As a viewer, this is great because I get to see my favorite photographers using one of my dream cameras.
You don't *need* a Thunderbolt cable to get full speed out the camera. Just the right USB-C 3.1 Gen2 10Gbit/s or better cable. Thunderbolt maxes out the 10Gbit/s pretty easily, so if you can't find a good cheap USB-C cable, you can just use a Thunderbolt one and it will work as expected.
@@snapsbyfoxIn the video it sounded like a limitation of the camera, not a way to get the best performance out of the external Thunderbolt SSD to another Thunderbolt device. If you're using Thunderbolt devices, it makes sense to have just one cable to do everything, even if it's not strictly needed for the camera. And a spare is also always a good idea.
Detailed disclaimer is such a big boy move. Seen your vids pop in my feed on occasion, but today you've gained me as a subscriber. Great coverage of the Hassleblad toon
What is kind of funny is I did not see an improvement over your normal videos and the images you show on youtube. Not saying the images are not great but your photos with your normal kit are great.
That's a great review Roman. I thinks that if I had the kind of dosh to buy a Hasselblad, I'd rather follow in your footsteps and take an extended trip out to Japan with my faithful battered old Nikon instead!
I appreciate your transparency and authenticity. You earned my respect completely from that alone. Your video is GREAT, which just confirmed my opinion. I’m happy you were able to earn this camera also. You deserve this and much more. You do an amazing job at your craft.
That was the most detailed disclaimer ever, keep up the good work
I trust you. Fair play for getting a Hasselblad and putting a very clear disclaimer front and centre. During your previous 200+ videos, you have established your integrity and getting a free camera does not compromise this in my opinion. I think reaching out to the company first before making a negative comment in your video is very reasonable. Love the video and have no problem at all with you using a camera given to you by a company. In fact, I'm happy for you! Please make more medium format with it in the future. I'm so intrigued by this camera
I second this!
a hassleblad?? did bro just casually got a hasselblad in the mail for FREE?!! props to u man
It's very unusual to give away such high end gear, most companies just loan equipment for a review. The only exception is usually cheap accessories or very budget lenses.
quite a few YTers have been given one I think. Thomas Heaton for one.
It's not free, it's a big hassle. I mean medium hassle. Well no, not that either. It's kinda free, just as long as it's not too much hassle.
@@duringthemeanwhilstkinda insane really
the photo of ur mom knitting, on the train, is truly special.
That won't soon be forgotten. And they've got similar, graceful hands. 🙂
You're so real for saying that Roman, a massive fan of your work and honesty. Enjoy your trip and keep the good content coming !
Cheers!
I really enjoy it when you leave the background sounds while showing the photos you made. I think it is a great complement to these great pictures
thanks! Yeah I only realised that by accident a while back and stuck with.
Just wanted to also echo this. Really enjoy it as well.
Same!

Wow Roman! by far the most honest video from all the big TH-camrs who got a free HB. Good on you.
I appreciate to not only talking about the camera, but also the infrastructure necessary to support the camera 😊
As Del Boy would say "You lucky git!" Nicely done and presented...
Love that you don't hold back on getting a really expensive gear. No bias and BS. Looking forward for more vids.
Loving the shots Roman, especially the one from the station (the abstract one)!

Great photos!
Thank you!
Just subscribed 😊 I really appreciate your honesty!
I cant buy this camera but i felt i am actually having it in my hand and using it along with you. very engaging video.
I found you based on my search for my first camera to get back into the hobby since my Nikon d200 days . And now I don't know if I should get a Fuji 😂
Well done mate, good reward and that from an enviable camera and brand. I would have done the same. Enjoy the camera it’s a beast and give us some continued Hassalblad content.
respect for the long disclaimer...ive seen one youtuber saying "opening up my most expensive camera" ...and then said a one line disclaimer
100% faith in your sincerity and ethics Roman 👍 wow those photos are amazing and the cinematic look is just incredible. As you say not the best type of camera for street photography but if you have one or indeed can afford one then why not.
As for Japan, wow wow wow ❤
Cheers!!
06:08 absolutely love this photo!
Getting that camera as a gift, dayum, you’ve made it Roman!
my dream camera
this video once again reminds me how much i would love the ability to shoot in xpan crop natively.
Thunderbolt maxes out the 10Gbit/s pretty easily, so if you can't find a good cheap USB-C cable, you can just use a Thunderbolt one and it will work as expected.
but you do to transfer data to an SSD for backup and so on
@@snapsbyfoxIn the video it sounded like a limitation of the camera, not a way to get the best performance out of the external Thunderbolt SSD to another Thunderbolt device. If you're using Thunderbolt devices, it makes sense to have just one cable to do everything, even if it's not strictly needed for the camera. And a spare is also always a good idea.
It’s about the workflow that comes with 200 mb photos. You’d need a better laptop, more storage, SSD instead of HDD, better cables etc
Detailed disclaimer is such a big boy move. Seen your vids pop in my feed on occasion, but today you've gained me as a subscriber. Great coverage of the Hassleblad toon
Finally an actual use for 100mpx 🕷
docking points for refusing the amazing looking freshly torched scallop!
I’d rather sh*t in my hands and clap than eat that
What is kind of funny is I did not see an improvement over your normal videos and the images you show on youtube. Not saying the images are not great but your photos with your normal kit are great.
Alla fine te la sei tenuta visto che sei un professionista . Belle foto come sempre 👍👋👋.
That's a great review Roman. I thinks that if I had the kind of dosh to buy a Hasselblad, I'd rather follow in your footsteps and take an extended trip out to Japan with my faithful battered old Nikon instead!
Some great pictures
Incredible stuff - how do you like being able to compoose at the different aspect ratios in-camera?
I want one so bad
Love your videos bro, you’re a legend 🤝👑👊
Congrats on the camera! But I'm more impressed by the photos you shot at night, brilliant!
Cheers!
I appreciate your transparency and authenticity. You earned my respect completely from that alone. Your video is GREAT, which just confirmed my opinion.
I’m happy you were able to earn this camera also. You deserve this and much more. You do an amazing job at your craft.
transparency and authenticity? he's trying yo make it look like he's being impartial, but this is straight up a paid advertise. straight up.
I love your honesty, I love your videos and I love Japan. Nothing else to ask for today
