This was a really great and clear tutorial! Really appreciated that you explained WHY you chose sew-on interfacing instead of iron-on, I learned something very useful! 🥰
This is a very simple and clear tutorial, especially for a beginner like me, im gonna use this tutorial to make a bow for a dress im making, thanks for the tutorial! :DD
Thank you for watching! Interfacing is basically a woven fabric that is put behind fabric to make it stiffer or thicker. There are a few types of interfacing - iron-on interfacing has a glossy side that you put face down onto fabric and iron over, and the heat makes the glue side melt and stick to the fabric. Sew-in is interfacing without the glue, which you have to put into fabric by sewing it. It should be available at almost all sewing stores. Hope that helps!
Hello. I just saw your video, it is very well explained but there is one thing I don't understand. 1 minute 30 after the start of the video, you make a diagram with the measurements. what does (5/A) mean? I would like to make Sailor moon cosplay for me and sailor chibi moon cosplay for my daughter. thanks in advance
Hello! I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you on this question! You need to pardon my bad handwriting, it's meant to say S/A which is short for Seam Allowance!
Im new to sewing and this was very useful! I need to attach this bow to a dress shirt while being able to remove and put it back on again, how do you recommend I do that?
@@LabrysLover thank you for watching my video! In terms of attaching a bow and taking it off/putting it back on again, I’d recommend sewing some snaps onto the back of the bow and to the shirt so you can easily pop the bow off and attach it back into place. Depending on the size/weight of the bow, you might need a few snaps, or more heavy-duty ones to do the job. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm making a cinderella dress and this helped so much with her bow that she wears in the parks!! Thank you again! 🥰🥰🥰
Both of the replies you've received have helped a lot! (Sorry for the late answer!) I find if I have an oversized bow or the fabric is rather heavy I use heavy-duty clips.
I used a heavy-weight interfacing, but it depends on the look you want your final bow to have. If you want it very stiff, go for the heavyweight interfacing, but if you want a floppier bow, use more lightweight interfacing instead! 👍🏻
Hello! Sorry for the late reply, I thought I’d replied to this comment when I liked it! I actually stuck a bit of felt to the back of the brooch and sewed it onto the bow, since a simple pin wasn’t up to the task!
Any fabric is suitable for bows! Personally I recommend going with something that has a little bit of body so that the bows want to stand up some easily with the interfacing, so stay away from anything too light like chiffon and organza!
That depends entirely on how large you want the bow to be! If you're making something like this sized bow (like for Sailor Moon) I used about 2 meters of fabric. I'm sorry I don't have an exact answer for that 😅
Hello! If you skip to the video time at 1:35 you should be able to see the finished bow measurements, and the calculations I made. Don't forget, they're without the seam allowance that I added (which is the S/A), so make sure to add that too!
Hello! Thank you for watching my video (as old as it is!) In terms of interfacing, I used the stiffer kind because I wanted some really out-there proportions! If you’re wanting more of a soft-looking bow, I’d recommend going for soft interfacing. I’ve also used multiple layers of soft interfacing for making stiffer bows when hard interfacing wasn’t available. I hope this helps!
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!! I decided to make sailor senshi bows for my dog's collar and this is, like, the perfect tutorial!!! I liked, I commented, I subscribed, and I'm desperately awaiting your future success so I can't point back here and be like "Yeah, that million-subscriber cosplay tutorial TH-camr? I was apart of the first five hundred!" Much love!!! ❤
Sew-in interfacing is thin, loosely-woven stiffener that doesn't have an adhesive backing, so you have to sew it in instead of ironing it onto fabric to stick to.
You could always try to sandwich some stiffer fabric inside instead! Fortunately interfacing is very cheap to buy and available at every fabric shop I've been to!
I'm making a sailor moon cosplay and I really don't know how to make the bow I tried some other tutorials but they didn't work I really hope this one works ☺
please make more tutorials! this was one of the most helpful tutorial I’ve ever watched!
I came back from the dead just to reply to this comment and thank you ♥

Hi. Thanks for the tutorial. How do I attach the bow to a dress and make it detachable
Detachable bows usually use safety pins or clips. Velcro works for smaller bows but it's not as attractive when you don't have the bow attached
If you find large enough button snaps you could probably very easily make it detachable that way!
Both of the replies you've received have helped a lot! (Sorry for the late answer!) I find if I have an oversized bow or the fabric is rather heavy I use heavy-duty clips.
thanks! 👍
You're very welcome! 😊

what sew-in interface did you use? How thick/strong is it?

I might just have to do that! Thank you for the suggestion! ♥

I had one question, how did you tie the brooch without damaging the bow??
Hello! Sorry for the late reply, I thought I’d replied to this comment when I liked it! I actually stuck a bit of felt to the back of the brooch and sewed it onto the bow, since a simple pin wasn’t up to the task!
What fabric would you recommend?

how much fabric should i get if i’m making the front bow and back bow..?
That depends entirely on how large you want the bow to be! If you're making something like this sized bow (like for Sailor Moon) I used about 2 meters of fabric. I'm sorry I don't have an exact answer for that 😅
So good!

@GiorgiaCostumes I was trying to understand and I found it hard to understand but I get It thanks❤❤🥰
Hello! I don't know if you'll reply since this is an old video, but I wanted to ask what kind of interface you use. Is it the soft or hard kind? :0

What is saw in interfacing. Is it paper violin
Sew-in interfacing is thin, loosely-woven stiffener that doesn't have an adhesive backing, so you have to sew it in instead of ironing it onto fabric to stick to.
Where can I find sew in interfacing?
You should be able to find it at your local craft store or anywhere that sells fabric!
Thank You so much !!

Thanks! My mom bought me one today it black and it has pearls but o need this tutorial coz’ my cousin asked me for one but my mom didn’t allow 😊
Now you can make as many bows as you want!
Amei posta mais vídeo só tem dois
More coming soon!
I'm bad at math, how to you figure out the formula for right size? I'm trying to make a bow for my toddlers cosplay
I don't math, so usually I just cut a piece of paper into a rectangle and pinch it in the middle to gauge how it should look.
thank you, it was really well explained and pretty!
Thank you so much! I hope it helped somewhat!
What if i dont have interfacing :,)
