  • After riding this Triumph Bonneville T100 for some time, we came to a perhaps not so surprising conclusion!
In this review, filmed in breathtaking locations, with the pure sound of the engine and exhaust, we discover the essence of this very beautiful modern classic motorcycle.
Is it for YOU? The answer may well be found in the video.
We run through all the important details about the bike, including handling, suspension, brakes, engine & gears, power and torque, seating, ergonomics, quality, instrumentation, price etc. and one thing that could be improved to make THE ultimate modern classic Triumph. and we look at the Stealth Limited edition Bonneville's.
Coming up next...at long last...The Moto Guzzi V7 Special Review! You won't believe what we think of that!

You really suit that bike.if only they made flat-cap style crash helmets! I agree less is more..less hp more torque, less plastic more metal, less aggression more smoothness.Fabulous review as always mirroring my thoughts.outstanding machine!!

The only times that I have had compliments on the bike that I have been riding have been when I have had a Bonneville family courtesy bike whilst my Tiger has been being serviced. They look like the bikes from my youth, but with greater reliability. I am pleased that you don't drown out the incredible sound of the machines that you test with cheesy music. Marketing professionals and journalists need to take note!

The local dealership gave me a T100 to play around with while my Speed Twin was being serviced. The T100 is a beautifully balanced motorcycle. I am not sure why it is such a pleasure to ride, but it is: plenty of power, nicely balanced. It is a bike I have recommended to many people.

I did the Triumph demo rides at the Sturgis Rally a few months ago. I rode ten different models and the T100 is the one I kept coming back to. Rode it three times. It's nearly perfect. I see one in my stable for my 70th birthday in a couple of years.

Great looking bike! No golden fork legs or other stupid gimmicks, well done Triumph, all you need to do is listen to The Ol' Man about the front mudguard. Beautiful silencers too, a pity that many owners will probably switch them to something else just to get more noise. And that two tone paintjob on the tank is simply understated elegance! There's hope yet for motorcycling.

I to agree with that front mudguard would make it a brilliant all year bike and agree with the earlier comment leave the exhorts alone power wise no problem my w800 only got 47 horses but never wanting and is one of my best to ride in these 20 mph zones i fancy a t100 could let me decrease my collection. Thanks again for a great video alan

Yeah I loved the pea shooter mufflers as well I ended up switching them to the b.c Sleeper pros not that I wanted to change the sound at all my issue with the exhaust setup was that the ends of the cans were in the way when it came to chain maintenance. I have a t100 black I call it Shuck after the black demon dog of your Isle had to put a ton of extras on it to make it more comfortable and my own switched the bars added a center stand I have about 30000miles on the clock she was an excellent bike stock had to have the bar ends lots of stuff from motone. Microblade fairing, bash plate, free spirits fork light k&n air filter ah and a ton of trip machine luggage also my wife wanted pannier rails a back grab rail-rack and a k&q triumph seat much better for longer rides....

No Gimmicks, well said, rider modes, they should be call, I dont know how to ride modes or something. BMW came out with that in, I want to say 2011 then everyone else started doing it they are just what you said, Sales Gimmicks, Honda comes out with 3 then Kawi comes out with 5 and Yamaha comes out with 90. Give me the modern retro with no modes, no mono shock, no LED and I'm really good with Carburetors as well. another blogger last night I was watching, from what I gather he rips on carbs not being as reliable, he was apologizing for that. Carbs, if you like to tune your own bikes especially if you love old 2 strokes, are way more fun to tune. Anyway have a good one everyone. Cheers.

After 40+ years on top end Sports bikes, these, back to basics (almost) classics really push my buttons and my Street Scrambler takes the Lion's share of my riding these days despite having two other bikes to choose from.
You nailed it with the comments on the clocks, the single offering on the SS just looks out of place even though it does offer all the info you need.
As we all know, ABS is now compulsory on production machines but I'm not convinced riding modes and TC are really necessary on a relatively low powered twin. This T100 certainly has bags of appeal though, great instrumentation👍, functional mudguards👍, decent brakes and suspension👍 and an overall look to satisfy the most discerning modern classic fan.👍

Great review,I have a T100, great bike, plenty enough power, comfortable,no gizmos, clutch and gearbox dead smooth, lovely to look at,you don't need the extra power the 1200 gives you, mine will sit all day on the motorway at 80 mph, with no stress on the engine, hardly any vibration, because of the twin balance shafts, just a fantastic bike, and they hold their value really well

Thank you for the passionate review! I fully agree on the mudguards. Modern bikes get filthy just going through a puddle on an otherwise sunny day!
Why are full fenders/mudguards practically universally ignored these days? For sporty appearance? Rain and muck still exist.

Thanks for the review. I absolutely agree with you about the front mudguard. First thing I have to do whenever I get a new bike is to install a front fender extender. They definitely reduce the long-term wear and tear to the front of the engine and stop the radiator getting blocked up with crud.

One thing that Triumph have done, is made some of the models similarly priced (eg T120 vs Speed Twin), so whilst it may seem hard to make one's mind up which one to get, at least Triumph have been pretty fair on the pricing.

Thanks for a fine review. This seems exactly what I am looking for as a re-entry rider. Think I am going to have to splurge for this over the RE INT 650-its just so gorgeous.

Spot on review. Couldn't agree more with you on the front mudguard. Bought the gold line edition 900cc in 2022 and enjoying it ever since . Every ride puts a smile on my face. Yes it's a simple bike but isn't that what a bike should be. All you need is reasonable enough power, styling, good exhaust note and engine burbling sound which is a melody to your ears and one that will make every ride a memorable one. Many will only understand once they hit their 50s. Oh ya, the engine is super reliable too!!. The list will go on and on. Thank you for the absolute simple and straightforward review sir!

Couldn’t agree more. I broke my hip last year so swapped my HD 114 Street Bob for the T100. Whilst the T100 lacks the sheer theatre and crazy torque of the Street Bob it is easier to live with and you can happily explore the whole rev range. I like the 5 speed box and it’s well chosen ratios. I wouldn’t swap for a T120 but then I just noodle around the New Forest one up so the 900 is just fine for me. Keep up the good work.

Agree with all your review! In the US, I appreciate the 6th gear of my T120, and both bikes should come standard with cruise (I love Triumphs simple on/off cruise). Just yesterday, I made an error. . .I thought I was in 3rd gear but was in 2nd. . .I hit the gas and damn well near went off the back. More power than anyone but a squid or track person would need. Love them.

I agree, the 900 is perfect size for everyday riding. My old 865cc Speedmaster is perfect bike for me. Would I like to own Indian Chief or HD Fat Boy, both my dream bikes? Sure but as a sensible choice for everyday riding my Speedy hits all the boxes. It is quick enough for fast, safe overtakes on highway, it is light enough that it is manageable and fuel economy is very good. And the sound it makes with open pipes still gives me goosebumps. 👍

Sold my thruxton 900 (2015) when i moved to Canada couple of years ago. I think it was very powerful. You don't need more than 900 even on the highway its very smooth. Although i love the original exhaust sound. I did upgrade to feel safer on the roads. But that was in the middle east people drive like crazy. Now in Canada I'm thinking to get another one and keep it original.
    I'm torn between T100 and T120.
I just like the cruise control on the t120. Other than that i don't think i need the extra power.

Nice video, thanks. Agree with everything you say. Got a '23 T100 in Cobalt Blue, Chrome edition. Had it since April and love it. Had a few extras fitted; Belly Pan, Heated Grips, Dresser Bars, Back Rack, Centre Stand, Spindle Protectors, Bar End Mirrors, Comfort Seat. Just how I wanted it. Bar End mirrors are a matter of preference but rear view on both sides is superb. Fuel consumption is absolutely on the button. Power and speed is plenty good enough for road riding and as long as you're not looking to risk losing your licence at breakneck speeds I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Couldn't ask for more in my opinion.

I have a Triumph 2022 Bonneville Speedmaster, but I've ridden the T100 (in Street Twin form) and I remember taking it up to 80 mph during the test ride and it was super smooth. It handles great, and I agree that its less is more design is quite appealing. I wanted more grunt, so the 1200 (*with a couple mods) suit my riding style. And I can still putter around in 3rd gear at most speeds on the Speedmaster. I do, however, find the two rider modes (rain and road) useful when you're in soggy conditions as a safety feature. And, if you are taking longer day and touring rides, that one button cruise is perfect. Still minimal, but effective. The Speedmaster's styling is more retro in my opinion, but I can see why you thought this was your favorite Bonnie! Thank you for another great review!

I’m a big fan of a simple bike with a 5-speed box. My dad used to ride BSA twins with 40 horsepower, and they were superbikes of the era. I can’t imagine needing double that now.

Fortunate to have a 2018 Speedmaster and a 2016 T100 with carbs. My T100 comes with the mudguards your are suggesting here. Different driving feel but in love with both.

Needs fork gaiters like the T120. Love your guitar playing at the end. A man of many talents!

I have a 2022 that was great stock but you know I just had to do the A/C and the cat eliminator. It feels stronger and has the right amount of increased exhaust noise. The ECU compensated nicely without remapping and I get a hint of popping on deceleration. I kept the stock peashooters of course. I would recommend it if you want something just a little nastier without getting a full exhaust. The double wall header pipes keep the bluing away. I really did the cat eliminator to get rid of the idea of the cat under the oil pan was too hot and having a shrimp on the barbie moment every time I fired it up. I'm sure the bike design allowed for this but a little more classic sound for me is always welcome.

It's a beauty. Im probably looking at getting the scrambler when i pass my test, but i agree the choice to take off the twin clocks on the rest of the range is an odd one.

It's a great looking bike. Triumph quality and reliability. Might have to come to the UK to buy it. Looked it up here, in CA, and it's $12K to start...

Great review! That engine sounds SO good.
Question: had you not ridden a T100 prior to this? You mentioned how the Speedmaster was your favorite, but now riding the T100, the T100 is now your favorite. I love my Speedmaster, but I’m considering a T100 now, or a T120.

7:40 sounds gorgeous from the cockpit.
Also noticed the footpegs are in the right place and not high up like so many modern bikes.

Glad Triumph used metal Triumph badge on the T100 instead of stickers makes it a lot more classy,I also like the off centre fuel cap(don’t know why lol) it sort of suits the bike,ok it’s £10k but it looks £10k! Cracking looking bike & an excellent review!

Dear Mr. Darcy, I 100% agree with your lovely test. I own a 2023 T100, and unfortunately I agree also with your remark for the mirrors being too small.... Could you kindly indicate larger chromo mirrors (I would prefer oval/rectangular shape) that would fit my T100 without having to do any modification. Thank you so much, anyway. Angelo (from Roma, Italy)

Amazing video as always!! You’ve convinced me that the T120 isn’t necessary to have over this. Got my Trident 660 arriving soon and will get this as a second bike at some point.
Also - what happened to the Viking beard?

Triumph in green color...superb. I'm starting to miss classic dials over LCD/TFT displays. Wish they would move on from tube wheels and make all their wire rims tubeless. These bikes are not at Royal Enfield prices so we should expect a bit more from such a premium looking machine. Cheers!

That is a great looking bike. But there again I’m prejudiced. I have a T120 in the green and white colour. I also totally agree with you about your comments regarding the front mudguard - I have an extender that is really useful. Being black you don’t even notice it. The add-ons I’d order with one of these bikes is the DIN power outlet so you can plug in a battery optimiser (or heated knickers or whatever), heated grips for toasty hands and possibly a chrome grab rail. The latter is to tie down occasional luggage. You can go overboard with after market parts but the two I’d add would be luggage bobbins and some black vinyl self-adhesive film for the inside face of the number plate.

A supercool looking Bike, that has those classic heritage looks, but also has the minimum basic modern features like ABS and basic rider modes, traction control, without getting carried away with the over the top electronic features, that come on most modern bikes today.
