Simpletons are always amazed that my horse ground ties. They tell me they want to teach their horse to do it and ask me how I did it. Well, I am sure there are lots of ways to train it, I start off with hobbles. They hear me mention hobbles and look at me like I just slept with their husband.

The tipof the day is funny too me because my wife teases me about wearing suspenders and a belt. First off the belt is solely there because i carry a small belt knife instead of a pocket knife because i loose them all the time. Also you never know when you need a strap. One day i was taking the wife out for a steak and i look in the mirror and my buckskin mare is literally chasing the pickup down the driveway. I jumped out got her caught up and looped suspenders around her neck and rode her home like that. My wife has never said another word about the suspenders since then

I wore suspenders when I was a kid because all the old men did, I got them hung up in my saddle horn getting off a wasp and never put them on again lol, live and live threw it and learn

I bought figure 8s and a set that both sides have the tab. Both leather. My muke really tried to get free for 10 minuets or so then he started to chill. Ive had horses since a kid but hobbling was never a thing. Some people want them to learn to walk to graze in back country ......id rather use them for standing. Depends on what you want them for. Sheesh.
Im just gonna stick with figure eights.

For quite a few years I wouldn’t ever tie my horse to a rail. Instead I would hobble them with their lead rope just outside the tackroom door and once saddled I could then tie them to the trailer, rail, fence post etc.
I’m a firm believer in hobbling them as often as possible purely for the reason of keeping them accustomed to having their feet restraining. There’s a lot of old down barbed wire strung around and it can get pretty ugly at times

+1 on the hobbling with the lead rope/get down rope. Heck it's there. Might as well use it!

@@WesternWandererJM The lead ropes my wife braids for me have a ring braided in. For one they outlast the halters and don't need to be cut off and for two you always have hobbles or get down or gate rope or leash or....

I like those hobbles you made with the rope that everybody wants to steal. Is that a monkeys fist knot on the end? Couldn’t tell. Great tutorial. Thank you.

I like the idea of wearing hobbles as a belt. Any idea what brand of leather hobbles those are? I want to make sure they’ll fit through belt loops.
