It amazes me how few jewelers here in the Central Valley of California know anything about emeralds, and how most have never even seen a Colombian Emerald. The vast majority have only seen Zambian emeralds, which are typically darker and have more inclusions than Colombian emeralds have. It first came to my attention when I brought a Colombian emerald to what was supposed to be one of my city's best jewelers. He looked at it (it was a FLAWLESS Colombian of perfect color) and told me in a nonchalant way "The color is OKAY, but not great. Now let me show you what an emerald is supposed to look like" upon which he brought out a tiny Zambian. I told him "That's a ZAMBIAN emerald! It's supposed to have a darker color than what I showed you because the stone I own is from COLOMBIA." He looked at me with a confused look. I asked him "Haven't you ever seen one from Colombia?" Not only had he never seen one, he said he'd never even heard of a "good" emerald coming from Colombia, lol! Folks, never buy a loose gemstone from a jeweler in the Central Valley of California....at least not an emerald. 🙄🤨
I mean right off the bat he's an idiot for telling you Colombian emeralds are not the best quality emeralds. But he sounds like a seller, and will just huck any crap, not someone who is a true dealer and only wants the best they can find to offer.

Hello friends, I'm a Colombian emeralds dealer who began in the emerald business 37 Years ago, when I was a child looking for opportunities. Guaquero's work it's not an ilegal activity, the Colombian minnings authorities named this kinds of work social minning activity, and it has all the legality before the colombian government, that's the history of minning work started, when the indians communities has began to do it. Now foreigners companies works hard to take all our natural resourses like emeralds, gold, oil and everything leaving only poverty and enviromental effects. We the Colombian emeralds dealers has to make it hard and efforts too much and try to buy emeralds that's once this time has been expensive More than before. Our parents and olders works too hard to transform the poor reality in the emeralds minning areas in a better place to live. If you Will buy a colombian emerald, please try to contact colombian emeralds dealers or companies, we really Will thank you.
The color grades of the major pieces of emeralds shown in this video are really just OK, but definitely not great, not even reaching the floor of the top color level. The colours are too light though bright, which is quite common for an average quality emerald. It may be able to please a layman, but not an experienced buyer. A top quality vivid green or muzo green displays very impressive very intense green while maintaining high brightness. The color is unforgettably beautiful. And such top emeralds could originate from various origins including Columbia, Zambia, Panjshir, etc.
The Pakistani emerald from Swat has a very beautiful dark green colors but it has inclusions mostly. The Panjshairi emerald from Afghanistan has more intense color and luster then Colombian emerald.
I've seen some very fine emeralds from Afghanistan that rival Colombian but not beat it out, maybe some small pieces. It could be true if new finds come from there, but they have to get their mining methodology sorted out, like many other things there heh. I would love to see emeralds flow from Afghanistan and make it a wealthy and safe place, they do have amazing color and they rival Muzo and other Colombian emeralds for sure.
