    Anyone know why the petition to get starmer out now needs 200k signatures, instead of the original 150k target which has now been surpassed? Or will the number of signatures required just keep increasing so that it will never be reached?!

    • @pennylando3145
      @pennylando3145 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +13

      . The targets on these petitions are arbitrary and have nothing to do with how many signatures are needed to achieve the goal. If you think about it, the Labour party was elected with almost 10 million votes, so it's unlikely that 150K people signing a petition is going to make much impression on Starmer. It would need to be many, many more than that to even make him a bit worried.
      These petitions always have changing targets, but they don't mean anything other than an encouragement to keep going. This one probably started off at maybe 5,000. Once that's achieved the next one might be 10,000 - and so on.

This yr we will not get our winter fuel allowance, as we are just minimally over to apply for pension credit, we have no idea how we are going to manage without it, yet you get all those coming over in boats from France, they are automatically given warm place to sleep, free meals, free NHS, they are even given money. I started my working life before leaving school, at 14yrs old worked Friday evenings and all day Saturdays in Woolworths, gave that up, when it came to me leaving at 15yrs left school on a Friday started work on the Monday, earning £4 per week in a office, but that makes no difference to labour, they are robbing old aged pensioners like myself and hubby.

      Article 10 1. states that: " Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers."
      Farage has the right to an opinion, and he has a duty to ask questions on behalf of his constituents and the country. If he was going to be arrested it would have happened by now. I don't think even Starmer is foolish enough to do that.

  • @pennylando3145
    @pennylando3145 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

    One of my concerns about this free speech issue and the insecurities Starmer is creating is that it is very likely to have a very negative effect on some people's mental health - and we already have a huge problem with that. Anxiety, depression and other mental health difficultes are going to be compounded not only by genuine worry about what can and can't be said, but by others who may well make it up as they go along in order to control or intimidate people.
    Someone really needs to remind Starmer that responsibility goes two ways: yes, we can do our best to be responsible citizens and not spread misinformation - I'm sure most people do not willingly or knowingly do so anyway, but because we are pattern-seeking animals we WILL speculate. It's an inate human trait, evolved over millenia as a means to assess danger and keep ourselves safe. He cannot change that without becoming hugely destructive to society. Some of our speculation will be wrong, but it is generally not malicious in nature.
    We can be responsible, but for the sake of vulnerable people's mental health, so must he.

      They tolerated the Tories for 14 years without rioting.
      Within 5 weeks of taking power, the right have decided now is the time to riot about migration, despite 14 years of no/worsening progress on that front.

    This government is already showing their true colours but the marque of really good governance is one that you hardly notice is there.
    It is wisdom that says, if a ruler is truly good noone will seek power for themselves. So if people are asking for you to resign after such a short period in office, then you need ask yourself:
    What does that say about about the job Labour have done so far?

    Put a British person into jail for making a racial comment - they lose their job, house family - this frees up work and opportunity for the ethnic 'minority' - job done! Are there going to be arrests for comments inciting hatred to the Jews - i.e. river to the sea?
