I own one of these already and one point that was missed is that when the radio is plugged into a PC, it can be used as a wired PC speaker and files can be transferred as well. Hands down it's one hell of a radio for all that it can do.
I once had a shortwave radio. It was large. It had a speaker. It had moveable knobs. Sometimes I would move the knobs and noise would come out of the speaker. That is all. Thanks for the knowledge and entertainment, Randy
Another frank and honest review from Randazoo, the bane of Sad Hams everywhere! Gee, do I miss the good old days of lots of SW stations and low sunspot activity.
Looked at these radios on Amazon and there are a bunch of brands that use exactly the same form factor. Looks like the main difference is the color of the lighting. Thanks for the review.
Randy, I believe that Power-Up Morse Code was an attempt at 'CQ' the general call on Ham and CB but if that's what it was, they cut the first dash in 'C' to a dot and it sounds more like an 'F' so 'FQ' 🤣. This is going to confuse the sad hams for sure! BTW - I was hoping for 'F-U' lol 😂
@@jerrykr7kz just checked again, pretty sure I am hearing di di dah dit... Maybe someone else can lend us their ear 👂. Although I still think it was an attempt at 'CQ'... But maybe AQ would be more appropriate.. isn't that the Asperger's and Autism Quotient? 🤣 You know I've got the d@mn 'Tisms' 😜
I have a friend who wrote a song using the Morse Code rhythm in which the length of the notes spelled F*** YOU (. . - . . . - - . - . - . - - . - - - - - . . -). It was a catchy little tune and you have no idea that the mushy puppy love type lyrics hid a sinister message ;) PS: I am a ham, but I'm not sad!

As an old-time ham radio operator (69 years) - this receiver t'aint bad and if nothing else, it's fun to use and has darn good reception. FM is great. Well worth the money, yes, it does not get SSB, but I can live with that. Nice review with enough info to get many started. Believe me, if you have the patience and a reasonable antenna, even indoors, you can do surprisingly well. Enough said - 73 all - Rich, W2FKN
I believe the morse code is "CQ" which is how ham radio operators call on the shortwaves when they want to talk to other ham radio operators. 🙂 73 de WB4DW
Another great review. Just received mine and I'm already enjoying it. At first, it was a bit tricky trying to set it up as the directions were OK, but not great. But, as you said, this is a great little radio at a very reasonable price.
I'm sad it only allows 955 favorite channels. I want to be able to assign each frequency to it's own favorite, because I love them all, and this breaks my heart.
This radio would be perfect for camping. Hang the long-wire in a tree, bluetooth your favorite songs and SW stations from your phone without leaving your camping chair and beer. All set!
Actually, the shortwaves bounce off of the dodecahedral earth. The dodecahedron provides many surfaces for the signal to bounce. The multi-surface earth provides optimal cooling for optimal signal capture. We are in a 3-dimensional plane of the 4-dimentional dodecahedral earth.
Ah in another 10 years there will be nothing but Happy Hams, such as myself, out there. I got into it for the digital modes and have a tendency to lean towards HF radio. Be surprised how far 100 watts and a wire can reach, even if theres just another idiot on the other end!
I remember listening to shortwave as a kid on Saturday nights. (this was the 60's and the TV was a piece of furniture) So I might get one for shits and giggles.
7:44 for some reason, the radio says "FQ "when you power it on. I think that is actually supposed to be "CQ "but the first bit gets truncated, and it turns the sea into an F. I don't know what FQ means, but sounds vaguely menacing.
I like C.Crane's CC Skywave SSB because it has AM/FM, Shortwave, Aviation, Weather, VHF and SSB but it's a bit pricey at $ 170.00 range although, it's packed with functionality and the reception performance is above average.
Sadly, now I'm getting really in to SWL, USB and LSB is a must. Real shame because the look of it is great but I just wouldn't be able to justify the jump in price over my very capable Retekess VR-115 paired with a Tecsun Pl-368 as a recording setup. Line in is a great feature and makes a difference when using Morse Expert for CW decoding.

Lack of SSB is of course unfortunate but in this price range still expectable. But for what you are usually gonna listen to with this radio, it doesn't matter anyway. You can tell it's not meant for HAM listeners in mind. The Radio Recording function sure is a great feature and something i'd actually expect on most of these radios that read Audio files from USB or Micro SD storagemedia. It's sadly still very rare to find.

Awesome little radio... in my opinión they should have made it with standard AA batteries... only because in a shit hit the fan scenario there won’t be any Amazon to order new ‘specialized batteries’ from...

There is no licensing for receivers, if you think about it really how could there be?

Looked like a standard 18650 battery, there are tons of devices out there that take them. I own 3 or 4 flashlights that use that battery.
I'm curious if BatteriesPlus stores usually stock them..... to buy..... not to steal during SHTF
