I have a ring alarm and I love it. They have always called me when the alarm went off. Smoke detector went off and they called.
It's a great system, hands down.

Look into the ring door bell for apartments as well...it replaces the peephole without damage, even comes with the tool needed to remove peep hole... I have it , love it so far and just ordered the ring alarm 2nd gen.

I was doing some quick shopping last night for a security system and honestly this video made me feel even more confident in picking ring! I got some basic setup stuff since I'm on a budget but I'm hoping to upgrade as time goes on!

Notifications are sent to your phone every time an armed sensor is tripped, and it works with compatible smoke/CO detectors. I've tested every aspect of this system, and it has everything I wished my older ($2000 professionally installed system) had. It gives me a secure feeling when I can keep tabs on everything remotely. Set your ringtone for the monitoring number to a loud alarm sound to avoid missing (or ignoring) the call.
Side note, I found that the ring keypad sometimes goes offline if you leave it always plugged in, then you have to scramble to disarm it from with the phone app before it alarms. I leave mine unplugged now until it alerts me to a low battery and have had no problems since.

Great video. I’ve owned my RING system for nearly a year now and I LOVE IT. It’s very reliable and you can’t beat the $10 per month price. I switched to RING from Vivint whom was charging me $55 a month and didn’t include half the service I get from my ring system. I had my Vivint system for about 15 yrs and RING changed that for me. It’s definitely a do it yourself system and easy to do. Also the equipment has a lifetime warranty IF you subscribe to the $10 monthly monitoring and NEVER let it lapse. Very important to remember. I really love my system and am saving over $540 a year compared to Vivint.

I signed up for dfw security after my house was broken into while I was at work. It came with 3 door sensor's, 1 motion sensor, 1 camera ( video quality not that good), and a keypad front door lock that could be unlocked via the app. It costed around $55 a month with a 3 year contract. My contract is up next month. I just bought the Ring Alarm 8-piece kit (2nd Gen) kit with camera and free echo show 5 from amazon for $200.00. Can't wait to try out the ring and if I go pro monitoring I still save $40 a month. I already have the ring doorbell, I like it alot.

I have had SimpliSafe for years. Version 1 and now the new version 2 for almost a year. Great system, great indoor camera, great customer service. However it's $25 a month if you want all the features. So now I'm switching to ring protect which from what I can tell does a lot of the same things and for only $10 a month. I already have a ring doorbell that I'm paying for so now I'm thinking I probably should have made this switch a long time ago. I bought the 2nd gen ring protect that just came out, looking forward to putting it up. Just arrived today!

In some areas of Atlanta now, Police will no longer respond to home security alarm calls because of how many false alarms there are. You have to have cameras outside where you can visually verify someone is messing around on the phone when you call them before they will come out. The noise from the alarms will usually keep people from staying in your house very long but having cameras as a second layer so you can verify things is going to get you help a lot easier.

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  5 ปีที่แล้ว

That sucks but understandable if there are that many false alarms. Good advise on also having a camera as a backup.

It’s also stupid easy and reliable to connect to HomeKit with Homebridge. Allows me to get around stupid limitations in the app like not being able to schedule when it arms in the evening and disarms in the morning. Also allows me to use things like various door and motion sensors to automate other devices in my house. The main issue I’ve had is the motion sensor triggering by mistake when away and sending the police to our house. No signs of entry (have Ring cameras front and back), no pets, nothing moved or fell over in this room. We had several flies in our house during that time and I think one of them sent the police. So that part wasn’t great.

It is a great product. I do have two tips, be mindful where you buy and be ready to be more knowledgeable if you have to call in. If you buy as part of a promotion at a retailer or similar, you may not get the 10% as explained to me by Ring. Also, I have had to call the service line due to panel not taking my code during a test. The agent did not seem knowledgeable and I knew more as a new customer. However, I do stay up to date with tech so that could be it.

Had ADT for 11 years with no cameras and paid $46 per month. Just removed it and installed Ring security and cameras 2 days ago. So far, so good. Includes everything for $10 per month. Spent $1,000 on equipment total (ordered lots of extra’s), but the monthly savings will cover the equipment costs in a couple years, then I’ll be saving money. Plus I get way better security and cameras from now on. Seems well worth it to me.
I narrowed down my options to Ring and Simpli Safe, and both seemed great honestly, but Simpli Safe had only indoor camera options and the cost with camera’s was going to be $25 per month. Ring seems to be the best option out there right now based on my research.

I have SimpiSafe -- a few years ago I complained on their Facebook page that their keypad was poorly designed for people with fat or big fingers. They blocked me, then a year later they did come out with a new improved keypad. When I went to order it I found out my base station was out of date and wasn't compatible with the new keypad. They're just not a good company. I'm going to get the ring.

I have the SimpliSafe interactive plan, can add as many cameras as you want, and they have a case to put on their camera to make it weatherproof, if you don't have their video doorbell. Great company and easy to use!

How does the cellular backup work? I didn't know they had that. I was thinking of how I could set solar power up to just my wifi router but seems complicated. How long does the backup work if the lights go out and my router is down. Where does it get the signal from when system is down?

I want to buy one of these alarm systems but don’t know which one to go with, they have three different kinds of ring systems, the one you have, another one& then there’s one with three stick up cameras as well...Don’t know which one to go with... i’ve been a victim of a violent crime and the guy who stabbed me 4, times in the chest 12 years ago, just got out of prison today. I want the best one of these three. Which one would you recommend?

We just bought a house and considering this system. If it had cameras like our Blink system and Key fob like Simpisafe, it would be the best DYI system on the planet. We will use our Blink system to supplement because of the cameras we mount inside and outside the home. I feel with motion detectors, the window/door triggers are not necessary and will minimize false alarms from windy days. We would just make sure all our blinds are closed so swaying trees won't trigger the motion detectors. Thanks for the review.

Can I connect my existing Nest cameras to the Ring security system?

Porsche993 is correct; you can't add Nest cameras to the Ring Security System. If you want voice controls for both Ring and Nest cameras, that isn't a problem if you are using Alexa. In terms of compatible products that can appear in the Ring App, there are actually a good amount. Look at Ring's webpage for a list of compatible products (the Ring Alarm Basestation uses Zigbee and Z-Wave, so that is how the products can connect). For example, there are Z-Wave battery-powered Fire/Carbon Monoxide alarms that I bought, and they integrate into the Ring app).

He did not mention, or may be I missed it, that Ring does send you notifications to your phone in case the system is set off, even if you do not subscribe to any of their plans. That is great! I've heard that Nest does the same.
On the other hand, Simplisafe does not. You MUST subscribe to their most expensive plans, which is 25 bucks per month. It won't even let you turn on or off the system. Pretty lousy and the reason I did not go with Simplisafe.

The problem with RING's water/freeze sensor is the alert is via email, not a text message to my phone. Frozen pipes are a concern up here in Alaska. So I went with a pp-Code sensor which has 3 distinct advantages: 1) The user can specify the threshold for temperatures, for example, send an alert if the temperature is above 70F or below 50F. 2) Text alerts whenever the threshold is exceeded. 3) The user can remotely look at hourly logs to see the exact temperature and trends for example 65F,62F,59F,55F 50F...etc.

I currently have Simpli Safe and I do like it. But I have to be honest, I wish I had looked closer at the Ring alarm. I have the Ring doorbell and I have also recently upgraded all my old smoke detectors to the ones that are Ring compatible. Add to that I have been looking at the Ring flood lights for the front and back of the house and it honestly doesn't even make sense for me to NOT have the Ring alarm anymore. The cherry on top is that $100 for the year VS my $26.99/month currently. Figure that's $324 a year, so an extra $224 for what at this point... Might as well make the change and have ring monitor all the new smoke/CO alarms and the new flood lights I will be getting. Thanks for the video!
