    I'm confident I can replicate this! Thanks for the easy tutorial.
    If anyone is struggling to comprehend this, just play around with an Alaskan mill for a bit until you understand what the u-bolts are and what they do.

    Milling your own wood is very addicting! Started with my 395xp and now I have my Hudson hfe 30 band mill. It’s awesome when you open a log up and male dimensional material. Great work

      I just picked up a few carcasses that were missing some parts and the
      echo kioritz cs8000 had stuck rings and piston damage . A little under $150 not including the 36 bar and chain it looks brand new. A 385 xp and 455 rancher were the other two I haven’t looked into yet . I have several homelite super xl and a few other complete vintage homelites some must be 40 years old or more

    Just bought an MS880 to do the same thing! Nice work getting that log started for milling.

    Great idea of moving up your work station and repurposing an aluminum ladder. Have a Safe Day

    Chris: I dug one out of my sawmill file, Channel "Lure of the North, Date Aug.08.2018, Title: Logs to Lumber, Alaskan Chainsaw Milling". As I told Jake to take first top cut & rip it in half & used them as a crotch to sit the log in. Catch you two on #196.

    you didn't arrange the logs heart crack right. On your next cut the log will eventually split. your blade is dull cause i see powder when a ripping chain yields shreds. nice video.

    I have a real chainsaw mill , with the Granberg rail system! It Beats the ladder system and doesn't cost that much. Good luck with your ladder rail .

    I'd like to try that with the 500i.. do you need a special chain? And what size bar ?

    • @DudeRanchDIY
      @DudeRanchDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’re using a regular chain at the moment, I have a ripping chain on order. We will see if it makes a difference. The 500i would have plenty of power!

    Chris, Did you get a rip chain for your Alaskan mill saw?

    I have a echo cs800 with a 32-in bar. I wonder if that would hold up and Alaskan mills?

    • @DudeRanchDIY
      @DudeRanchDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that saw would do phenomenal Stanley! The saw we’re re using here is only 74cc!

      800 works fine for milling. I use my 800 on a 30" mill maxed out with a 36" bar and I use full skip chain at 10° for smooth slabs and 15° degree chain for making lumber.

    I realize this was 8 months ago but I’m still wondering what brand Alaskan chainsaw mill are you using there are so many they all look the same

    • @DudeRanchDIY
      @DudeRanchDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea lol it came with the saw when Chris bought it. I’m guessing some cheap Chinese brand

    Maybe, in time and having recognized a lot of your mistakes, you'll do better. Go watch "Surviving Ringworm" on youtube and copy his end plates (using plywood with cutouts for the ladder's sides). With your ladder steady the first cut will go much straighter (especially if you chock the log).
    Oh - never hook the winch to the ladder - find a vehicle or some other solid point to pull against that is 4 or 5 feet past the ladder and at the same height as the winch.
    You mostly need experience before you start showing others what you're not experienced with.

      Yeah by no means was this an instructional video, simply showing the process we chose to use in setting up our first cut. Pretty sure we stated multiple times that we didn’t know what we were doing. That being said, we learn from our mistakes. Thanks for watching.
