Goodyear traction torques were very poor tires right from new. My father ran a tire shop for 39 years and I remember as a kid that they would crack within months of being manufactured, before even being mounted. tThey were smaller than most. Later the traction torque ( 2nd line) and power torque ( 1st line) were replaced by the dynatorque, and dyna torque 2. those tires were taller than every other tire out there. Generals were also a larger tire than average. Bfg, not build since about 1983 were almost identical in height to the firestone all traction field and road. They were the best bias tire ever built. they were made with rayon, and I still see tractors using them 40 years later
Good video, but you made hard work of it! Let the tyre do the work rather than working against it, I don’t know why people are scared of doing big tyres, they are easier to do than small ones. Fair play for doing it yourself, come to the uk and we’ll give you some lessons and show you the right tools 👍🏻👍🏻
@jtsbarnngrill6873 I saw an ad posted on Facebook and you're the first person I thought of lol. They had a 165 I think and others I didn't recognize the model of in the background pictures.
I really like watching your videos they’re really good videos to watch. I want to keep on watching them found out a little problem but hopefully I’ll make it through found out. I have cancer but I’m an old farmer and I can fight I know I can I’m 68 years old.
Good Golly J T , I don't blame you for doing that tire work, saves you a lot of money. I was a Trucker for years and did a lot of my own tire work, it's great exercise and builds CHARACTER. HA😅. A good cold beer is always good. Have a Great Weekend. 😊
I don’t like tire work. Those guys earn their money for sure. My old neighbor used to do tires for a living and he medically retired because his hands were so beat up from years of tires and Impact wrenches. Thanks for the Videos. We only have so much money in the account.
I always look forward to your videos JT! It's great to see a run of the mill guy do the things you do and are successful! Kudos and keep the videos coming!
Yes mate your right changing tyres on farm tractors and equipment is a bitch, but the money you save means you can bye more Beer. Great video Mark Australia.
In the tropics there's another medium-sized bird the locals call chachallca they also make their nests on the ground I can remember a family I stayed with while I was wandering around the area for about 20 or more yrs they collected the eggs of those birds and hatched them with chickens eggs good eating birds too
Good work JT, a couple light liquid refreshments always helps and as a bonus the tire even looks like it going in the same direction as the rest. Cant wait for the next video.
Admire your tenacity with that tire. Feeling of satisfaction to succeed I bet. I use the outrigger stabilizers on my Massey backhoe to break beads when they are tough to break, works great. Thx for the vid
I agree , it is worth the money to leave it to the tire pros! However guys like us will always forget just how awful it was by the time we’re considering doing it ourselves again! At least that’s my story! My wife laughs at me for considering certain jobs. She reminds me how bad it sucked and stupid me says well maybe I was having a bad day, I don’t remember it being that awful! Then I come in griping about it kicking my butt and she just laughs!
Most view this as entertainment, but when you're poor the labor is nothing... Many full-time farmers, when I was a kid , would be fortunate to remove a used tire off of an old tractor outback then remove and replace the flat one. They never complained. you did the best you could.
That is a very hard one man job, But you got it done. Good job and you didn't even have to swear one time! well maybe off camera LOL. Thanks for the video.
Oh man ! I'm so cheap I could be a farmer too !! Nice to see someone else struggle with tires JT ! 😉 I did 4 pieces of 6.00-16 tires on my 1956 Land Rover. The old ones were so dry and hard and the new ones so incredibly stiff I did 1 a day !! I told myself a few times why would I save myself a few bucks? But I got it done just like you man ! Cheers, Ard
Excellent video JT :) also want have funny Lol on tire change my dad , his brother never change tire on 1950 Cockshutt 40 tractors back drive wheels there were Farm Hand type also were crack also peeling tread of like shingles on buildings for all years was on farm still hold air plus Calcium Fluoride in too and shock me ! When my dad put on combine and other tractors of International ones my uncle said was never updated Cockshutt 40 ever ! Shocking in 1993 when sold Cockshutt 40 for guy want project fix up another Tractor he said rims like brand to amazing me ! Also all Cockshutt wheels change for new rubber plus inner tubes too including ! Did ever use on Tire drives one brand Good Year called Dyna Torque 2 on tractors and combine ! Tell JT you enjoy and they do super job if ever get them also last lifetime! Not sure make anymore Good Year Dyna Torque 2 but if need check your tire shop! Also worth it to buy !
That’s quite a tire, definitely got your mileage out of that one. Years ago there used to be a difference in height between Goodyear and Firestone 18.4 x 38. Firestone were higher by a bit. Good video
Nice one j.t. I cheat a bit on the wheels . I drilled 2 holes in my loader bucket and put scaffold bar through it helps so much for moving those wheels. It came off pretty well. And you're timing couldn't bin better. You got lucky with that tyer mine went bang my told me and my tyer wasn't that bad but it went when it was just sat there.. from Andy in uk
So when you used the saw I found that a vice grip the smaller 6 inch works. Using an impact on my bead breaker shaved metal off the threads so I use a ratchet. When I break the bead with the bead breaker and have to move the bead breaker to break the bead in a different spot. I tap a small wood block between the rim and the tire before moving the bead breaker. You are getting much faster.
Job well done👍think the old one had been a tyre to long.😂 don't suppose you'll get many tyre fitters watching to learn any new tricks and tips🤷♂️ but job done and money saved.👍🍻
Thanks for the video, yep tires are fun I do all our farm tires here on our yard including fluid filled, but highway stuff goes to town where i buy the tires from. Several guys I fix tractors for figured it out I can do my own tires. But I've told them I'm not a tire shop and don't ask to fix theirs on a Sunday or holiday when their usual tire shops closed, it's not worth the hassle at any price to do other peoples ! Those tires being a different height is not uncommon even with 2 tires made by firestone that are 16.9 x 30 a field and road is not the same as a traction field and road for instance, then you throw in 2 totally different tire makes and it gets even more of a problem. Take care.
Back in the 1950s grandpa wouldn’t waste the money on fuel, to drive around to the shop, dry ground, he would just say change the tire where it is. Not mean, just to save 5c.
Use some pam cooking spray or soapy water to make the tires slide over the bead a lot easier. I have a bunch of used fryer oil that i put in a ketchup bottle that i just spray down into the bead before removing the tire. Makes life easier on removal lol
@jtsbarnngrill6873 just don't be afraid to get liberal with it next time lol. I push the bead back and hose it down the bead lol. It looked like it didn't want to slide very well coming off. On looked a lot easier.
I always thought that the 05 series was kinda odd looking but after seeing yours might have to find an 1105 have an 1130 so I’m sure a 1105 would be nice especially since the cab seem to less of an after thought like it is on the 1130. Great video keep it up
We did the two rear tires on my 5088. I thought save some money. One we got right the other I pinched the tube off to the fire shop it went!! $350 each for a tube I had to buy three of them the fire shop would not patch a new tube. So lesson learned haul them in. Is it always raining there? Snowing here today last snow of the season. Have a good one.

1 word of wisdom always inflate the inner tube on the floor first to make sure the inflator is on the top before putting in otherwise if your not careful it will disappear into the tyre and you wont be able to do much about it
That’s a nice looking tractor, did you get it from new? Much better than modern tractors with all the electronics going wrong. All the best from England.
That’s what I was thinking! I have two beers left over from new years in the bottom of the fridge. I forget they are in there till I see it on the tv or TH-cam and usually it’s to early!
Look at the bright side. It could have been in a barnyard surrounded by processed cow feed with a bunch of inquisitive cows in the middle of a snow storm.
You have to pick and choose your battles. If you have nothing else to do, do them yourself and save some money. If you have other stuff that needs doing, and we all do, just pony up figure you save your back for another day.
Oh man, the torture a frugal farmer will endure to save a few hundred bucks. Great entertainment here!!
Thanks!
Wow you are an animal wrestling those tires! The beer would have came out a lot sooner if it were me JT! Good Job I enjoy your Videos!
Thanks! My body hurt that night lol.
I’m glad you enjoy the vids!
That wasn't that bad. Just cause I'm watching you do it. 😂😂. Not as bad as changing the clutch on the big green bastard. Stay safe.
Agreed. That was a crappy job lol
They were! It was just sorta hidden lol

There's a salvage yard in Illinois that has a lot of old Massey tractors that they're parting out.
Heavy Duty/Automotive Yard in Keenes, Illinois.
Thanks!
@jtsbarnngrill6873 I saw an ad posted on Facebook and you're the first person I thought of lol. They had a 165 I think and others I didn't recognize the model of in the background pictures.
Great video JT. At least we don’t change tires for a living. Shoutout to people who do.
Exactly!

The beer helps 😉
It was fun watching you struggle thanks JT
Right on! Thanks 😉
Was glad to see both the combines under cover. I’m sure they appreciated it. I liked your secondary debeading too. What ever works.
Awesome! Thank you!
Grand job there JT definitely beer time after that 😅
You got that right!
I don’t like tire work. Those guys earn their money for sure. My old neighbor used to do tires for a living and he medically retired because his hands were so beat up from years of tires and Impact wrenches. Thanks for the Videos. We only have so much money in the account.

Happy Easter, great job on the tire!
Thanks! You too!
You wore me out just watching you. Time for a nap. ZZZZZ!!!!

U are the man JT!!!
Thank you!
My back hurts from just watching you. You did a great job to say the least.
Thanks!
you are one brave man
Thanks ☺️
You did it!
Yes mate your right changing tyres on farm tractors and equipment is a bitch, but the money you save means you can bye more Beer. Great video Mark Australia.
Right! I have to watch where the money goes 😉
In the tropics there's another medium-sized bird the locals call chachallca they also make their nests on the ground I can remember a family I stayed with while I was wandering around the area for about 20 or more yrs they collected the eggs of those birds and hatched them with chickens eggs good eating birds too
JT you must have worked in a tire shop in your past life because you sure know what your doing!
I’ve done car and pickup tires since high school to save money
Love those artic Masseys used to drive its little brother the 1200 when I was a lad happy days .
Right on!
Nice Job .
That was easy.
Up to the 🍻.
Have a nice weekend.
Greets.!
Thanks! You too!
Can’t wait to see an old ford around the farm
I know the feeling, but you saved money. 💪
Right! I have to watch the $ where I can these days
Good job mate 👍love the mud we didn’t had rain for 3 months 😕cheers from down under 🇦🇺
Cheers!
Good work JT, a couple light liquid refreshments always helps and as a bonus the tire even looks like it going in the same direction as the rest. Cant wait for the next video.
Right! It never hurts 😉
Good video! Tires are so much fun lol
Yes they are! Lol
Great job JT!
Thanks!
Hey JT, nice Vid. I think that was a big exercise to Change the Tire.
You make it perfect.
Yes it was😆
I watch a lot of farming TH-cam vids you are the best no joke
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Jt,you are fun to watch, and fight with that tire 😊😊😊😊
Thanks 😉
Hi JT. That mother sure made you work for your supper. 🍻
Great to see you still have it when it counts. Well done 👍
It sure did! 😉. Thanks!
Good job.
Thanks!
Another great video JT...
I appreciate that
You can ‘see’ the air in that tire🤣
Yes you can 😆
Admire your tenacity with that tire. Feeling of satisfaction to succeed I bet. I use the outrigger stabilizers on my Massey backhoe to break beads when they are tough to break, works great. Thx for the vid
That’s a good idea! Now I need a backhoe lol
You my friend are one tough S O B. That job sucks when your working in a clean environment, but you did it with all that greasy mud. 👍👍👍👍👍🍻
For sure!
I agree , it is worth the money to leave it to the tire pros! However guys like us will always forget just how awful it was by the time we’re considering doing it ourselves again! Those tires aren't that bad to change. I'd rather do those than some of the low profile tires on cars today.
Bingo! Exactly right!
Most view this as entertainment, but when you're poor the labor is nothing... Many full-time farmers, when I was a kid , would be fortunate to remove a used tire off of an old tractor outback then remove and replace the flat one. They never complained. you did the best you could.
Chese perfect
For sure I could watch u struggle sitting on a Tailgate or a chair with one of your beers in my hand😂😂
Nice job 👍
Thanks 😉
Not sure how much you actually struggled with that tire, but you made it look easy
What part looked easy?
That's another job a Massy industrial with backhoe would come in handy. Used to move my wheels with a chain and use the backhoe to break the bead.
I’ll bet that backhoe bucket would be great for that!
Amazing how much different manufacturers have different hight tires in the same size. Even a new Firestone VS a new Goodyear.
Right! I am noticing that with different rigs I have around here and their tires
That is a very hard one man job, But you got it done. Good job and you didn't even have to swear one time! well maybe off camera LOL. Thanks for the video.
There may have been a few dropped off camera lol
Oh man ! I'm so cheap I could be a farmer too !!

Used to manhandle our Ford 9600 duals twice/year. They were 20.8-38s on full rims. Built character, or so my dad always said.
And muscles lol
JT you really need to invest in SEVERAL loads of large rock for your place.
Yeah. I’m well aware of that. This is the worst year of mud I’ve had around here in 12 years
WHAT??? The gunslinger with new shoes??? It's anarchy!! Lol,,good to see ya Joe!
Right on! Thanks 😉
That’s quite a tire, definitely got your mileage out of that one. Years ago there used to be a difference in height between Goodyear and Firestone 18.4 x 38. Firestone were higher by a bit. Good video

When I break the bead with the bead breaker and have to move the bead breaker to break the bead in a different spot. Right on! This went more smooth than the first one I did 😉
Gunslinger is a beast!! Convert me from IH to Massey.
Keep it red at least 😆😆
Hardest working man in all of TH-cam!
Thanks 😉
you are making that look real easy.
I try 😉

I am originally from Michigan, and I cannot remember that much mud!!!!!
It’s been terrible this year
Back in the 1950s grandpa wouldn’t waste the money on fuel, to drive around to the shop, dry ground, he would just say change the tire where it is. Not mean, just to save 5c.

I had some Weston corn oil on that one 😉
@jtsbarnngrill6873 just don't be afraid to get liberal with it next time lol. I push the bead back and hose it down the bead lol. It looked like it didn't want to slide very well coming off. On looked a lot easier.
Nice job, hopefully get many years of use out of that tire.
I hope so! I don’t want much practice doing that lol
@jtsbarnngrill6873 Oh, I bet not, lol.
You’re a better man than I am!
😁👍👍

Sorry grew up on a dairy farm and pitching boxstall manure is worse. But dang good job getting it changed!
Agreed! That would be worse 😉
Jt,wash and wax it will go on easy on the tire 😊😊😊
Will do!
I had no notification of this new video!!
Uh-oh! That’s not good 😬
1 word of wisdom always inflate the inner tube on the floor first to make sure the inflator is on the top before putting in otherwise if your not careful it will disappear into the tyre and you wont be able to do much about it
Right on.
JT you should contact the manufacturer of that tire. They might want to brag about its long life and not giving up.
That’s for sure 😆
What brand did you say the new tire was? I like the tread on that, would be great on my John Deere 2 cylinder for plowing and antique tractor pulling.
That was a tru grip lug. The little research I did on them made it sound like they haven’t been produced since the 80s.
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 Thanks, and thank you for a awesome content before work, next week after spring break it will be school 😢😡
Well done JT- tractor tires are an ugly job- have yet to see 1 go well
I hear that! This one wasn’t the worst I’ve done, but I have never had a best one lol
A little bit more broke in 😂
Exactly!
I think that job there should be at least worth a six pack of Busch light😅😅😅
At least a 6 pack 😆
That’s a nice looking tractor, did you get it from new? Much better than modern tractors with all the electronics going wrong. All the best from England.
I did not. Bought it 3 years ago. I have some vids on the various things I’ve done to this over the years. Thanks for watching!
I would like to know thee name to the screw jack used th brake the tire down from the rim/ tHANKS.
I found that on eBay, can’t remember the name of it but I just searched tractor tire bead breaker and got that
Heard Budweiser makes those tires just slip off the rim.
Interesting 😉
I dont know who's your daddy, but another great video it was.
👍👍
Thanks 😆
Well I'm tired... think I might have a beer and I don't even drink 😅

It could always be worse
Id hasve to think about that for a minute do you plan on buying a new tube and how much
I put a new tube in it
Can I ask what are those strips of steel for inside the rear rims.
The rear duals are axle duals, those strips are the spin out adjustments
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 Cheers was thinking it was there to spin the dirt from the centre now I know. 🙄
