How To Catch Sheepshead With Live Shrimp (INSANE ACTION)

  • There's a secret method for catching sheepshead that is amazing when fishing with live shrimp. I discovered this trick last year when these fish were in the their spawning season and congregated at the jetties. For some reason if you take a live shrimp and break it in half and only use the portion that has the head, Sheepshead are very attracted to the bait.
    My Recommendations For Rigging
    1. Monofilament or fluorocarbon main line your the reel, fifteen pound test works fine
    2. #1 Owner brand SSW or octopus style J hook
    3. Slip sinker
    4. Use what is know as a knocker rig
    5. Break the live shrimp in half and only use the portion that has the head
My theory of why Sheepshead are attracted to the live shrimp heads is I think they mistake them for either small crabs or sandfleas.

I’ve used knocker rigs, carolina slip sinker and drop shot rigs for sheepshead. I personally find best hook up rate to be with a drop shot rig. I have used shrimp, fiddler, mud crabs and mesh bag oysters. They all work well at times. Great catch and enjoyed your videos as usual. You can cut the larger mud crabs in half as well.
