the rig at 8:10 is probably my favorite rig aside the drop shot rig. that rig is the Carolina rig though, the fishfinder has a triangle sinker and a swivel attached to it. you want to use the triangle weight so that the currents dont move your line around so much
For me knocker rigs rule, bottom sweepers are good but expensive, fish finder rigs are good for all kinds of fish but I can't feel a sheep bite them. And free lining is great to float a crab or shrimp with the current under a big docked boat where sheep are eating the barnacles.
I'm having a tough time hooking up to sheepshead at a spot i go to in sanibel. I could be limiting out but im not! just 1 or 2 that god is still blessing me with though! Im 2 minutes into this video and im sold on the first rig! Thanks JC!
As I was about to ask if you have been to a certain pier for sheeps I saw your video on Facebook.. I was tempted on heading there, but there’s another snook spot for some smaller snook that I found on the same island, we haven’t gotten a monster there yet but we’re 3/3 on snook frenzy days.
Glad my kid wasn't watching this video with me. We are trying to teach him to tie his shoes and I don't want him thinking he can do it with 3 overhand knots lol! Love the video though. This is my first year fishing for sheepshead. This was very informative.
Bottom sweepers with mud crabs is the number 1 sheep rig for us. Freeline crabs on a 3\0 live bait hook. Lots of people use smaller hooks but the 3\0 live bait gets behind the teeth.
Question for ya JC I have some banana jigs/wacky jigs could I use those as a bottom sweeper jig? There about same size and ik the bottom sweeper jigs make you bait stand up but just a question. Thanks in advance. love you channel to big dawg and shout out to Daytona and new symerna area I fish the same area 🤜🏽
It depends on how fast the water is moving. At the jetties the first and last three hours of the tide seem to be the best time. In other areas of the bay you can catch them during the entire tide because the water doesn't move so swiftly.
@@TopwolfOutdoors yeah I've seen all of them...and it depends on the line diameter...there was some that even the mono passed 8 more times than floro...especially if you're targeting sheepshead along pilings...all those barnacles will cut easily through Floro like butter. It's not worth it especially the price of floro.
someone showed me a hook he fished for sheepshead with no bigger than the fingernail on his little finger. have never seen a hook that small but. he swore by them

I rarely use the bottom sweeper type jigs but they do work! Looking forward to the Jetties this year! We should do a bait challenge there this season!
Excellent content! Immediate go to content. We appreciate your knowledge!!
Good video JC! Keep them coming! Tight lines
Nice video. I learned some stuff.

Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge. ✌️❤️😃
I love trying different things to make it easier or effective but it’s funny like keep sucking tell you suck seed lol
Love your look in the jean jacket

Jc I stopped putting my sinker direct on braid. I always use top shot. Braid to mono with fg and mono to swivel.
I don’t have access to a kayak, but my go to spot for sheep is definitely the jetties. So many snags lol
Hey JC! Glad you’re posting again! I cant wait to see you back out on the water 🤙

Thanks for watching. I'm thinking you mean a #3 hook not a 3/0, is that right? Thanks for commenting.
What type & size hooks work best ?
Has anyone tried a Midwest finesse yet have used for smaller sheep and it works ok

Your ideas sounds like a good one. I've seen commercial fisherman chum Sheepshead and then use the banana jigs tipped with bait to catch them.
Best tide to fish docks for sheepshead? Thanks!

Why mono over fluorocarbon ?
Mono is more abrasive resistant around structure.
The guys at salt strong did a video fluorocarbon vs. Mono and mono was more abrasive by a smidge I use fluorocarbon

Price and performance Adam.
Mono is cheaper. Why not use it when your battling bruisers.
I’m glad he confirmed that they are expensive lol I though it was just me

That sounds small for Sheepshead
This is still basically a Carolina rig
Carolina rig is for bass fishing.
AGREED!
Blasphemy! It’s a Carolina rig!! 😂
Ha ha... thanks for watching. Carolina rigs are for bass fishing. Fish finder rig is for saltwater!
AGREED!
First!
IT IS A CAROLINA RIG, KNOW IT ALL. KNOW YOUR FISHING HISTORY FROM OBX. I AM THEREFORE UNSUBBING!
with some research you'll find that the Carolina rig actually originated for bass fishing. The saltwater rig is called a fishfinder rig.
I don't know if it is a good idea to use your teeth to close a lead split sinker.
