So it’s obvious you don’t like Elvis. But then you watch Elvis videos to try and convince multitudes of lifetime fans around the world and think your one bad opinion of him will change minds. It was reported Elvis cried like a child after Dr Martin Luther King's murder. 'If I Can Dream' is in reference to MLK's famous 'I Have A Dream' speech. He was known to wear a dark red neckerchief to signify spilled blood in remembrance of our fallen during the Vietnam war. Elvis wore a white outfit resembling a reverend suit and the red neckerchief to pay homage for both Reverend Martin Luther King and assassinated civil rights supporter Senator Robert F Kennedy. Other than when RFK's brother (President John Kennedy) was killed, the world was in mourning like I had never seen before or since

    • @emerald1805

Elvis never met MLK, but knew of him because they were both in Memphis. Reports or dramatizations saying he cried, are extreme exaggerations. What Elvis actually did and said was “This (murder) will give people who already think badly of the south, reason to believe that”. He decided he should do something to show that he cared about what was happening in this country at that time. This song was it.

Thanks for your reaction. Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory.
Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off.
As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (th-cam.com/video/LrFCyNMvZWk/w-d-xo.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

We don't know any facts about Elvis crying - if he cried, where he cried, when he cried -- there are tons of "stories" about this, no one has facts -- almost everyone has passed on by now & lots of bad information abounds. All we do know is that one or 2 of the girls cried a little when he finished. The sad part is people focus on MLK forgetting about Robert Kennedy, Vietnam & the world in turmoil.

Everything in this performance has a purpose. The song itself was written by Earl Brown, inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech I Have a Dream. The song was written with Elvis in mind & it’s a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mr. Brown was aware of Elvis love for Dr. King. He also knew that Elvis was devastated by the news of Dr. King’s assassination (just 9 miles away from Graceland, Elvis‘s home). The white suit was also worn to accompany the song’s dream for better days. At the time, the conflict in Vietnam was heart wrenching. In remembrance, of the lives lost during the Vietnam war. The burgundy colored scarf Elvis wore around his neck was for them.

BACKGROUND INFO for this SONG: As per the producer-director of the '68 special -- Steve Binder -- Elvis, Binder & others were together in the studio when they heard noise coming from the TV in the next room; it was the TV news broadcast that Robert Kennedy had just been assassinated. Binder, Elvis, et al sat up until about 4 a.m. talking about the turmoil in the world at that time w-Elvis expressing his thoughts & feelings, also the assassination of Pres. Kennedy & Vietnam. Binder asked songwriter Walter Earl Brown to compose a song based on those discussions. The song is notable for its similarities to Martin Luther King’s wish for a world of peace and harmony. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam.

He wanted to make a statement about MLK and he did against Colonel Parker who kept Elvis separated but after this special, Elvis’ music changed and he became more soulful and did more of what he wanted. Remember Colonel Parker took 1/2 of his earnings and refused to let Elvis get music from writers unless they gave up the rights to them. When Elvis found out that stopped.

We have tried reacting to her songs but they just don't do any numbers. Most of her artists she listens to are really hard on copyrights. We did a couple when they were instantly blocked from uploading them.

This type generation of kids has grown up to pretty much garbage, so it's no wonder she's so dismissive about his musical tastes. He gets it. She's a work in progress

Don't know if she does or doesn't since I don't know her, but she gives off a "whatever" vibe and doesn't communicate what she is feeling and call that a reaction. The other guy's reaction is much clearer in terms of whether he does or doesn't like a song and why.

@@Robin.2226 they're doing a reaction channel and in every video her reaction is blah. No emotion. She can like whatever music she likes but she shouldn't be doing a reaction channel to this kind of music.

i gave you 4 songs including this one that i thought your daughter would like about a week ago it's nice she gave it a 10 but you need to ask why she did that. was it voice, emotion ,the words or all three. other songs 1970 live (BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATERS) ---1973 live from Hawaii (AMERICAN TRILOGY) ---1970 live (JUST BECAUSE)

I would love to subscribe but I really don't believe her when she says that she likes it. I could be wrong but I am just going by her reaction. Her reaction is blah. I'm not saying dump her in the relationship but you need to dump her as a partner in this channel. A little harsh but if you want to grow your channel you need somebody that shows emotion. Or just do it yourself.

I don’t know about you, but the Young lady isn’t into Elvis. She reminds of a Girl I once took to a Fancy Restaurant with Great Reviews and a top Notch Chef, and I was trying to read her body language and I asked her how she like her dinner, and she responded that she would rather had ate at McDonald or a the Greasy Spoon at John Street.
