    I love all of these suggestions, with the exception of the turtleneck sweater. Since menopause, I run very hot and can't have anything around my neck! One other suggestion for not losing diamond earrings is to get the ones with the screw back style!

    • @ZForce5496
      @ZForce5496 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am with you on turtlenecks. For someone like me they are very unflatttering. They emphasize the distance between my head and my boobs.

      Used to have 20 or more turtlenecks! Then menopause hit and haven’t worn one in years. I’ve always like the way they look. Easy way to look polished. I just switched to crew or v necks.

    I thought I would have lots more "classic" pieces in my wardrobe. I was surprised I really only had the denim jacket! My style is much more eclectic the older I get. Plus I have recently been trying to declutter EVERYTHING. Including my wardrobe.

  • @jesss2145
    @jesss2145 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I agree with most of these. My personal difficulty is that the cuts of certain pieces changes, especially the button down shirt, t-shirt, denim jacket, and especially the blazer. I do think a somewhat tailored (not too tight or too loose) is the most timeless, but there's still be such a variety of cuts that are not timeless. Jennifer Aniston is definitely a great example of someone with timeless style. I have trouble placing when many of her photos are from, because her clothes and hair almost always look fashionable!

  • @thibodeaux99

    I agree with most of this however I think a white shirt can be pound adding for some women - me being one of them. I have tried all kinds of fabrics and styles of white shirts- all make me look larger. Such a shame - love the look with jeans. Keep up the good work.

    • @majbrittkjaer6134
      @majbrittkjaer6134 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Absolutely. Fully depends on your colors and shape, and the style, tone and structure of the shirt. Keep looking though, and when you find one, but two 😂. But white, light bright colors in general, “enlarge” our visual space, so that is something to think about. Maybe an all over white / cream / beige outfit would be an idea? So with the white top, wear same color /tone jeans or pants, and create a monochromatic looks. 🙂

    • @kathygann7632
      @kathygann7632 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the look of a white shirt, and I’m a winter so bright white is a good color for me, and I’ve tried so many different styles, but they all look blah, and I feel like a waitress. I try changing the look with jackets, sweaters, etc. but it is better if I just buy jewel tones instead.

      Go for the white details like collar ,wear it under the cardigan or jacket, it lifts up…. White collar on button down shirt with some accessories works for me

    • @dreamscape405
      @dreamscape405 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed! I wear navy, gray or chocolate brown instead. And, black is too harsh looking on me the older I get. 😊

    • @marionnieder1655
      @marionnieder1655 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try to combine it with other items! I usually wear dark, black, navy or burgundy. I feel like white is quite harsh for me and makes my face look grey and sick. But I love white shirts especially in summer. So I wear them with a (silk) scarf or a dark blazer or cardigan. Take these items with you to the shop and try different combinations. I'm sure you'll find one you like! 🙂

    I work in an office, and I wear all of the following: button down blouses in solids and stripes, black blazer, turtlenecks (I have lots of them as I have a long neck and they keep me warm in the winter and go with everything), denim jacket, and several trench coats. I have a Burberry camel coat. I update my wardrobe with shoes! They definitely update my closet.

    thank you so much for putting this together. When I reflect on my own style, I find I am continuously drawn to these classic items that just work. They have been around for ages, have proven themselves and continue today in one form or another. They are the building blocks of any wardrobe.

  • @kimberlyperrotis8962

    I love all of these except the denim jacket, which I have, but rarely wear. I think it’s just not quite as comfy as other jackets. One of my favorite looks is a turtleneck, blazer and skirt for cold weather, or with a silk or cotton classic shirt for warmer days. My whole wardrobe is classic, so this might be my favorite video!

    All terrific suggestions. The one that has been the hardest for me is the white shirt. I’ve always been busty. Finding a shirt with darts isn’t too hard for a size 6 but now that I’m in the plus sizes, it seems all button up shirts that fit my bust have no shape. Haven’t looked around in a while. Guess I’ll give it another try.

      Give up on finding shirts made for busty women. I have. They are all drafted on B cups and the sizes are graded up (so a plus sized B cup). Instead, find a trusted tailor or learn to sew. It opens up the world for you in options when you stop having to look for clothes to fit you. Just buy what you like and alter it.

    I agree with your selection of classic/timeless pieces, but only have maybe 3 items. The reason for this is certain colors/cuts are not practical for my lifestyle, coloring and body-type. So my suggestion is to take these basic items and customize them for yourself. For instance, I never wear white shirts(button up or T) because white looks horrible against my skin tone. So I changed that to black, navy or grey/gray. Thanks for sharing.👍🏼🤗

    A lot of these pieces “play well” with each other. I’ve had a vintage (late 70s/early 80s) camel color Burberry trench coat (complete with original plaid lining) for over 20 years now. I picked it up for a “staggering” $50 at a consignment store, and it’s been worth every penny. When I wear it to work (a medical group at a military base), people look at me if I’m a powerful, influential person. Makes me feel more confident too.

    Love these suggestions! I tend to keep a more muted color palette for the white and black items. For the white shirts, I usually wear gray, khaki, or beige, and for the black- navy, brown. I prefer a tweed blazer rather than black because I'm finding the stark colors, like black and white, aren't as flattering the older I get. If I keep the colors lighter and muted, it's more flattering on me.

    Great video, and they are all indeed classic pieces. But that doesn’t mean everyone has to have all, it depends on each ones style.
    I have/had most, but some I never wear (the diamond studs, I prefer earing that ringle and move with my hair) or the wrap dress (have had several, different shapes and styles, including a vintage original one, but sold them as they are just not me).
    And dont want the Chanel bag for two reasons: 1) It’s not my style, it reminds me of grandma bags and 2) its way over priced… with the massive influencer push over the last couple of years, it looks like everyone has one (no one I know have a real one), and Chanel have raised their prices with about 30% during the last couple of years for some models….. sorry, there is just something about major price hikes during a pandemic that is off putting for me. So really good quality handbags, absolutely yes. Chanel, sorry, I’m over them. 🙂
    For the turtle neck, absolutely. They can just be tricky sometimes. If they don’t contrast your hair, and you wear your hair down, then they kind of emphasize your face and upper neck and an oval medallion painting. I prefer them in contrast colors or with my hair up. And they look amazing on short haired women.
    Great content ladies and keep up the good content in 2022.

    One thing I always hate about classic trench coats is that they are double-breasted. That is not a flattering look for someone who is thick and short like me. I would love to find the unicorn of a single-breasted all-weather coat, preferably not in beige, because that, despite what fashionistas like to say, is not a universally flattering color.

      I'm tall and thin and love!!! double breasted ...... theres style for all of us.😊

      @@laurengilliland8355 Then you have it much easier than I do. When it comes to trench coats, there sadly aren’t styles for everyone.

      @@ZForce5496 I mean there is a style for you also. Not every classic works for everyone....instead of a double breasted you can wear single breasted. I have a black single breasted trench from Garnett Hill. I Love it also and I bet it would look great on you also, Rachel.

      We’re sorry we don’t really have one we can strongly recommend. Living in S. FL we don’t wear trench coats at all. We only share links of items we know are good quality & that we love.
