The Origin line has had some of the best HGs to date. Good engineering and great surface detail. Every time I build one I'm impressed. I know some people have a thing for anime accuracy, but not me. These Origin Zakus look far nicer than the new Revive Zaku.
They're heralded as the best 1/144 Zaku kit of all time by so many fans with very good reason. I love the forward shrug of the chest so much, that was such an amazing innovation
You know, I was worried that those shoulders would hinder the articulation of the arms, and one of the other reviews of this kit claimed that they did. Glad that the offset hinge lets you move it out of the way. I’ll keep my eyes peeled if they do another run of these on P-Bandai. Now WHERE’S MY GALBALDY ALPHA, BANDAI?!
I kinda wish they never made some of the origin kits as Pbandai. They were just so good. Not a big fan of monoeyes but monoeyes from this line were the best imo
@@HobbyClubhouse It's bugging how the Zaku Half Cannon which is just a lazy recolor of the normal Zaku II and only exists since Origin is a standard release while the normal Zaku Cannon, a design that has been around forever, is P-Bandai.
Somehow, that weird Zaku Half Cannon is the ONE retail kit that actually had an MSV illustration before - but Bandai still messed things up after with the first P-Bandai release of the "Zaku Cannon Teat Type" and THEN making the full Zaku Cannon. What the hell, Bandai...
10:56 Agree so much! It's annoying that the fan favorites gets the 'premium' treatment, while the lesser desired one gets mass release. It's worse i think on the Feddies side, since the much beloved GM Cannon and GM Sniper Custom is so hard to get, in exchange for the lesser known GM Guard and GM not-intercepting-anything-without-fellows-booster getting mass release. It's like Bandai didn't want to sell to people outside Japan or smth.
The GM Cannon being a PBandai exclusive is just an utter sin! And I know what you mean with that weird Interceptor without the Fellow Booster. It's like they're making the life of MSV fans as tough as they can for no reason...

Never understood why they made the kycillia version retail and the original p-bandai. The beam sabers might be a reference to the original novel where the Dom has a beam saber but it's not as stable as the rx-78-2's beam saber and has a straight shape
whoa! once again I find myself on re-run, and somehow I think I've gotten to where I might just get this kit for its classic-ish speed-racer-ish motif/shapes. I should mention though that the alternate options for the backpack was never mentioned here, and would have been interesting to know more since the manual scan from dalong does not indicate anything further than building either of these options, as opposed to the c5 or c6 that indicate which option corresponds to a variant. EDIT: one more thing about that backpack booster, it should have been white like the biceps and thighs - the robot spirits ver anime has this in its proper color.
They really do, though I like the Dom's creamy-yellow ones if choosing between the two maybe. I always wonder why they didn't make a Z Gundam version with the red pipes (maybe they still will) and then more fans can get an Act Zaku
Wow its colors really scream 80s to me! Although origin kits are really high quality the ones i built have a loose torso... I wonder if it's a common issue or if I built them wrong
If you mean the hip joint then yeah, it's also loose on some of my Origin Zaku-type kits (but not all), kinda slippery but it stays in place barely And yeah, that color scheme is so retro and garish and beautiful all at once:)
Origin zaku sure have some nice panel lines, but it's so fat that I wouldn't call his proportions "very handsome" :P Anyway, I'm still pissed at myself that I've missed that kit, alongside EWAC jegan and RG crossbone X2, especially considering how hard it is to get either of them now :/
The Origin Zaku fans will be at your door with pitchforks and torches if they hear you The EWAC Jegan really was special for how much new stuff they added - and Jegans variants can be really some seriously low-effort stuff. That round jewel sticker for the arm sensor is already something so unique you can't get it anywhere else
I like the colors and the design. But to be honest compared to the Origin Zaku II and Zaku I the amount of panel lines in this kit is surprisingly bland. You'd think for an origin Pbandai there would be more details to panel lines this looks rather plain
I bet much of that is from the shoulders which they probably got nervous about touching. The legs are closer to the Origins styling, though still, as you said, not quite as densely panelled

While I can understand your problem with the Act Zaku being P-Bandai... why are you annoyed with the Proto Gouf and Dom TT... I mean, is a non-modular Gouf with a different(WORSE!!!) paint job and none of its signature weapons or a Zaku with Dom legs REALLY worth it in comparison? I mean, at least the differences between the 2 Act Zakus actually feel like they have some substance.
The fans(?) of the stranger old designs can feel like Bandai is teasing them with something that's based on the old designs and never quite the actual thing - only to release that accurate one via P-Bandai. It's such a shame that this was the P-Bandai version of the kit rather than the Kycilia's forces version.
