I’ll give u a word of advice if u don’t mind. Never get under a truck with bags inflated. I watched one blow on a empty trailer just as a tech was getting out from under it. Had he of been under the trailer, I’m sure he would of got hurt bad. Just a freak accident. I never get under a truck or trailer with bags inflated since.
i never really thought about it, but yeah i had a trailer air bag blow out in the middle of the night fully loaded while i was sleeping woke me up and i jumped out of bed thinking someone backed into my truck
Was working on a 53 footer box trailer, had shop air running to it to keep brakes released, levelling valve was defective, let the bags over inflate, went on lunch break, sounded like a bomb
I have a 98 379 the u joint in the front closest to the transmission has to be replaced will I be able to follow what you did here and change it and a carrier bearing
I really thank you for helping us learn to save time and money!! I messed around and messed the bolt head up on one of my u joint straps. I will have to cut it with a torch but wanted some advice before I burnt my truck down. Have you ever had to do this?
There is a thread locking compound on the strap bolts heat will help loosen the thread locker. If you have a welder you can weld a nut to the bolt so you can get a socket on it again. Cutting it off would be last resort as you're still have the threaded portion of the bolt in the hole to deal with
@@Ezrider359 same advice I was going to say,,, almost word for word👍 Like he said, don't cut it off, just weld a nut onto the stripped bolt head.,,the heat from welding may be enough to loosen the thread locker stuff, on the threads of the bolt you are trying to remove🎯
Nice!! Yeah when Tiger decides to charge $39.99 for that puller I'll buy it.Till then,A Hammer and a Punch and a socket...I Tell ya,Those Harbor Impacts work!! My 3/4 just died after 3 years of hard torture. My 1/2 inch earthquake still motoring along after 5 years
i haven't killed any of my big impacts yet. don't get used as much i have killed a couple of the 1/2 earthquakes over the years but there still an amazing bang for the buck. the one i was using in this video is at least 3 years old.
Yet you'll still have the suburbanite Rubs that'll just have to get the Tiger tool to remove joints-Just cause they "have" to have it. Hey Ezra- Hows things over at TTR? Miss you guys over there, Also, ca n I balance my Driveshgafts myself? Any tools or something I can make? I got a shimmy under load ,New u joints ,motor mounts and Center bearing- Clutch has a million on it- Measured travel on pilot bearing looks good- Only thing I can figure out is outta balance shafts- This is only under "Heavy" pulls going upgrade in low thru 2nd gear.
I don't know of a way to Ballance a shaft yourself without specialized equipment. Would still save you some money to pull your driveshafts out and take them to a driveline shop than to just bring them the truck
Wait. I missed the part about the $300 ratchet and $60 socket and the $200 osha approved driveshaft jack stands. Oh and the $600 tech angle torque wrench.
Very informative videos - thank you. I have to do my carrier bearings on my 96 Freightliner FL70, I've been told it's hard to do yourself - what's your opinion? Thanks
If it all comes apart ok it's not a bad job. Iv had to cut them off the driveshaft before though. So it's one of them jobs that can either be easy or a pia.
It's easy until you get a hard one, then it's an unbelievable pain and you need a set of torches and a big hammer to get them apart. Especially the ones that haven't been apart in years and have 4 bearing plates unlike the ones in this video that have 2 bearing plates and 2 straps. Great video by the way!
My truck has a different style ... i cant figure out how to take the drive shaft off ... the thing you hammer out after taking the drive shaft off is whats holding the DS
If all 4 are that style that I took out after removing the drive shaft that's a full round style. They come out the same way except you have to do the first two like that with the drive shaft in place. Not a whole lot of fun especially if they are seized pretty good. It's still doable though. My peterbilt has full round u joint's.
@@Ezrider359 i found a tool called u joint puller that is easier to use to take these round caps off ... i ordered tool from ebay ... thanks for your reply 👍
One boss I had, told me how to tell if you're using the correct amount of antiseize,,, If you slip and fall on your ass, you're using the right amount😂
Back in the days before the half round u joints I had the front tire on a side loader off the ground before it let loose (and the truck hit me on the shoulder).
@@Ezrider359 definitely. Once you have it out of the truck it's not as big a deal. The company I was working for had Mack MRs with the 237hp slant 6 that had 1200 ft lbs of torque at converter stall. We changed a lot of drivelines twisted in half. The first time was always a pain.
And that's why we say " OLD SCHOOL IS ALWAYS THE BEST SCHOOL " thanks for sharing boss ✊️
Great video ! Bloopers and all ! I have watched a couple of yours now.. they helped me quite a bit thanks man keep them coming!
Real content, useful as always, no BS, love your channel man..thanks.
thank you glad you are enjoying the video's
It must be nice to fit between the drives like that. I’m just a bit too “husky “ if you know what I mean.
Man you make it look easy!! I just spent almost 3 hours trying to beat one out that someone broke both ends off that bolt on to the truck yoke.
Hey man I enjoyed your l video it's just plain and simple and I like the old school way. Thanks and make more..
Old school. I subscribed bro. You are the best ❤

Glad you are enjoying the channel 👍
Ezrider we lost Peter Fonda sad days but as always you make quick work of it thanks for the experience.
I actually had not heard about Peter Fonda yet. Sad days indeed 😢
Great info. You know what your doing. Unlike some folks on yt
Happy new year sir
Mate, I love your channel, and how you explain the whole process. thanks 🙏.
Thanks, just need to beat my joint out, changing mine in the napa parking lot!
Thanks EZ!
Tried looking my u joint up from the spicer numbers and I can’t find crap for a replacement 😣. Ole 88 9670 Cab Over

Awesome job, just forgot to mention not dropping the drive shaft on your face! Minor details
Good call!
Loved it. Way quicker than the others I’ve watched. Obviously this video was done before you got that air powered grease gun. Lol
Sir you are the best
Looking forward to the peterbuilt season.
Great video made me want to go check my ujoints thank you for your time

No, 125 and 35
Thank you sir for your knowledge
Thanks again for sharing this video
Your welcome
Excelente thanks
I was just about to say that you must have put neverseeze on those cups last time . And thank god it isn't a Volvo driveline .
anti seize every time. or the next guy will be cursing you, and that next guy likely might be yourself....lol

Do you need to clock the drive shaft?
It needs to go back in the way it came out.
@@Ezrider359 as long as it was aligned correctly the last time it was installed🎯
You may want to match mark the shaft next time so everything stays in the same spot.
this one didn't need to be marked to put it back the same but still good advice. thank you.
I was going to ask if those ends are timed( alligned).
Yes, I know this was 4yrs ago,,,lol
Thanks nice video
thank you
your welcome ezrider !!!!
Just like that!!!!!👍
Thank you 👍
Not to sound like an a hole, but what should I torque them at to cover my arse
I bet you were cleaning antiseize off of everything for a week after this job.
Naw not really. Antiseze is messy though but we'll worth using liberally if you are going to be the next one taking it apart...lol
Back in the days before the half round u joints I had the front tire on a side loader off the ground before it let loose (and the truck hit me on the shoulder).
offf. yeah the older style u joints were certainly more of a pain. hard to work under the truck to get the first half separated.

2 words knee pads, you are destroying your knees when kneeling on the concrete floor
Are you looking for a driver
Not currently
I do mine the same way, can't bring myself to buy the overpriced tool 🤐
yup works for me every time.
What other way is there.lol
No shit I did this yesterday
Gloves 😐
Ummm grease.
My truck gets greased atleast every other week at a minimum
If you watched the video, you'll see it was greased🎯
Wacking them u joints is pretty dangerous idk 😱😱😱
Would be nice have more close up shot on how you kiked it out
