Taking care of my hygiene helps me feel sane. I don't live for books anymore and I never loved them with all my heart. I read a lot of books even with a darkened "vision" to put it poetically. I had mania burn me out. I had terrifying, exciting delusions and then I realized they weren't true and I died of relief over and over. I don't have many manic spells these days and I suffer mostly in life from depression. It's important to know you don't need to refute a delusion to overcome it. I don't expect to ever like books or be able to read as well as once I did though I am quicker than ever( which rather spoils the experience). I spend my time playing guitar these days and I've recently gotten a renewed interest in cinema, movies on Showtime, no commercial tv. Maybe if you don't read much anymore you could turn to writing? I hate to see someone without an occupation: I plan on attempting to give away my musical knowledge for free when someone comes along...
@@WWS322 wow, that is some truly inspiring stuff! I’m so glad you’ve turned things around with music & movies. I also do love writing and it’s something I’ve come back to recently. What you said about not refuting delusions to overcome them really hit home for me, I totally agree.
The cognitive issues are the worst in my opinion. Always having a delay in reaction to things and being forgetful isn't any fun. I'd say the negative symptoms hurt the most sometimes... this can kill relationships and jobs quickly...

Thank you so much for addressing the cognitive issues. I completely agree it is not discussed enough and I myself suffer from them greatly. Your videos are always so full of such wonderful information for everybody suffering out there and I personally want to thank you because they've really helped and inspired me and what I do. Thanks for making this amazing video!! How is your reading comprehension today and how did it get better ? I was diagnosed in march with schizophrenia and thought this was only happening to me. I’m in college and my reading comprehension and retention is what I’m having problems with as of now 4 months post psychotic episode.
@@Chrismgj it’s a lot better! I just had to practice a lot. The REAL reason it got better is that I sponsor in AA & I have to read through the Big Book every time I sponsor someone. I have read it maybe 8 times since my last episode. The repetition of reading the same book over and over absolutely improved things.
Please could you provide details of your slow taper schedule. How long did it take you to taper. What dosage were you on Were you on Clozapine( Clozaril)?
Hi Carolynn, it's been some time I've been watching your content. I have a family member with your same diagnosis. It's been more than 2 months she's been in psychosis and although she is taking a lot of medications she isn't out of it at all. You seem to have found a certain stability. Could you please share what medications are you taking and at which dose?
@@aleksandravargast8976 I can’t say too much specifically since I’m really no expert and don’t want to harm anyone, but as someone with schizoaffective I will say that it’s a combination of 2 mood stabilizers and an antipsychotic. I hope that helps! Also, it’s totally normal to take a few months to come out of the symptoms, so she might be right on track. For me, it’s about 4-6 months until I’m symptom free and I think even then there was still a lot of wreckage to get past. It definitely takes a long time, but it’s absolutely possible it can get much better.
