arnold was THE CONAN. and yet people always talk about him being the terminator. Conan is how i remember him best before i saw the terminator. and i still think he fits that role amazing.
I don't agree. His acting skills were sub-zero in that period(he didn't improve much over the years though). He portrayed Conan only through muscles, but character(that I know from Howard comics) is more complex than that. Script didn't bother revealing other Conan traits, but for my taste Conan is far more than pile of muscles performed by Arnold. He did not make effort to put few more dimensions in character. I don't think he readed any Conan comic in given time to better understand Conan nature.And it is very visible in movie.

The Cimmerians lived in the wilderness and were effectively surrounded by enemies, being 0:37 raided by rival barbarian factions such as the Picts, Aesir and the Vanir, and probably even other Cimmerian tribes, and doing their own share of raiding in return. They even held their own against better armed and well trained soldiers from civilized nations, even destroying an Aquilonian outpost at Venarium. What access to metal they had was probably limited by their ability to mine or trade for it, so they probably had to steal some weapons from their enemies or else rely on what they could make from what materials they had on had, which would predominantly have been wood, stone, and animal parts. So they had to be strong - to be weak in such an environment meant you were likely going to die. Civilized men, on the other hand, for the most part live behind walled settlements and only go out to either hunt for food, gather resources or wage war against their enemies. They don’t live with the constant danger of being in a place where anything can kill you. You almost have to be an animal yourself to survive in such conditions. That is why Conan is constantly described as having animal-like senses and reflexes that seem superior to other men in the books, cuz if he didn’t he wouldn’t have survived in his forest homeland. Also, half the time he’s butt naked, so he’s not always weighed down with metal armor like some of his human opponents

Nowadays, all this would be done inside a studio, somewhere in Bulgaria, with blue screens, decoys and CGI horses, before an army of chinese programmers apply their magic to it.... But whatever good that may be for some SF settings, it will never match the epicness of a movie like Conan that was mostly done in real locations.
Yea like the lotr trash whatever the hell that kiddy garbage was trying to be ill never know absolute useless films the type where you can go get snacks extra bathroom trips come back an hour later and not have missed a damned thing 😂😂😂😂 this film and willow are the best of the genre and the only ones worth watching. Especially this one with that fine ass princess dang!!!
And Queen Taramis ain't shit for throwing them in the meat grinder, knowing they're inept. Conan mowed through like 20 guys before she finally gave the signal to withdraw.
switching from a relatively believable Conan in the Barbarian to the much more muscled-up Conan in the Destroyer was one of the less good things about this one. That and making the rogue a meme character instead of being someone like Subotai in the first one - someone who is actually good at fighting just not a giant barbarian tank.
@@carpediem9750 there are like atleast 6 i know of i used read them back in the day written by the orginal creator of conan there are alot more books than movies you can just look them up on google they should be fairly cheap id say about 6 to 12 bucks probaly i read like four of em need read some more myself
Since animal welfare was not really an issue back then, I shudder to think how many horses (and other animals) were injured or even killed making movies like this. The original Ben-Hur is documented to have killed 100 horses in the chariot scene alone.
Those horses landed straight on their face nose first. Can't imagine they lived long lives after this scene. Wonder what Arnold would have to say about that these days.

Excellent movie for what it is, but the first one makes it look pitiful. (The annoying sidekick also brought it down.)
