    What movie references did you spot in this episode?

    • @ShaneJamesBordas
      @ShaneJamesBordas 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      The scene with Dougie Jones and the Mitchum Brothers out in the desert reminded me of Se7en, although the box Dougie was carrying was decidedly less sinister John Doe's box!

      Not a direct reference from this episode, but Dougie is seeming very Peter Sellers-ish from Being There.

    "He's dead," is quite possibly my favourite line in Twin Peaks ever.

      I Chuckled when i heard him say that.....it was so obvious and he sounded like Gus from the Cleveland Show more then usual.

      I chuckled when he said it, and then again when they played it again in this video.

      Also possibly a call back to the first episode of Twin Peaks season 1: "She's dead. Wrapped in plastic."

      Nick Ferrazza I burst out laughing too! I love that humour so much!
      Also the scenes with the Mitchum Brothers, especially the one when Bradley grabs his brothers cheeks and pulls them so much that he can barely speak. And also the one with "Douper"when they're so moved by the old lady, and both go in that weird laugh "Ha haa!!"

    Poor Bobby. Seeing him obviously still in love with Shelley, and her running off to another bad drug dealer guy and making out with him literally right in front of him, makes me really feel for him. Bobby is by far one of the best characters in the new season and it makes me sad to see him get hurt. Also Albert better not end up bad, he's also one of my favourite characters.

    • @srRaxel
      @srRaxel 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      BlueRrew agree, in the original serie I really hate Bobby but in this season shows a great grow as character, after his reaction with Laura's picture and his mom speach last episode really hurts seeing his solitude. But also i love his reaction with the old lady and the zombie girl

    • @Nobodyreallyatall
      @Nobodyreallyatall 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      The acting is quite good, the Bobby character is allowed to change unlike the other old characters... and Bobby was played so deliberately juvenile (both bad and good) over the top in the original series, and now Bobby is subtle and grown up.

    • @Vintagestylewins
      @Vintagestylewins 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      BlueRrew Shelly telling her daughter to avoid seeing her domestic abuse partner is literally the blind leading the blind lol

    • @gloriaillustrations3483
      @gloriaillustrations3483 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      BlueRrew oh yes, I feel the same as you about Bobby! So good to see how be became a great grown up person, he's straight and honest. Also Shelly appears not to be bright, doing this! The scene made me feel really sad!
      Also the same about Albert. I love Albert and Gordon Cole, they're the best duo.

    • @ryanschubert6012
      @ryanschubert6012 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I agree. I think Bobby has become THE heart of Twin Peaks. He has always, in some way, been very close to what happens in that town.
      Also, Albert is practically my hero. I really really want him to be good.

    What I found the most interesting in the episode was Candy. She's been displaying some odd Dougie-like behavior, especially in this episode. We heard bits of Laura Palmer's theme on the piano in her scene, and she seems to make strange gestures with her hands like Laura in the Red Room. Do you think Laura's trapped in Candy's body?

    • @Nobodyreallyatall
      @Nobodyreallyatall 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Don't know, but Candie does seem very robotic, like she is not quite a real person, maybe another not quite real manufacture? The brothers treat her nicer than you would expect, and they are not nice guys to other regular humans.

      That's the same thing I noticed! In the last few episodes she looks very disconnected from reality. She seemed to smile at Dougie when she cuts the pie for him (this probably doesn't mean anything though). Also, the answers she gives to the Mitchum brothers may be something worth reading into (in this episode I think she talks about traffic?). Hers is definetly an interesting character!

    • @SexyButCurious

  • @glennhunter7676

    I think you guys are way off on the Albert or Tammy is a bad guy theory. Theres really no evidence of this. Why would Albert confide in Cole in Episode 4? Also, think way back to Albert's speech to Sheriff Truman about his values. Albert is not a character who can be corrupted, he's already complicated, and and complicating him further by corrupting would compromise the original character development of Albert from Seasons 1& 2.

    • @gloriaillustrations3483
      @gloriaillustrations3483 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Glenn Hunter right, also I think that Gordon really trusts him, remember that humming in the blue scene in ep4, seems to me that Gordon has a gift to feel people (also what he said about Diane in the last episode, he clearly looked uncomfortable when she was hugging him, body language speaks a lot).

    • @JackRipper8881
      @JackRipper8881 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hooray! Was beginning to think I was missing something.
      Their reasoning is so ridiculous based on what we have seen and heard so far that you begin to wonder what they have been watching these last 10 weeks.

    • @Nobodyreallyatall
      @Nobodyreallyatall 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Albert probably has at least a clue about what Diane and Philip Jefferies has been up to in the last 25 years. I don't think Albert is bad, just waiting to see how things go before involving his boss Cole and the FBI in all of this nastiness.

    Oh my god albert is not a bad guy. Jesus christ. He has been through some mad shit with Gordon (Blue Rose case). Lets not forget, he is the one who went out of his way to help Gordon with the dopplecooper stuff. Im sorry but everything you are using to claim Albert is a bad guy does not hold in terms of everything with the entire series. And with the Phillip Jeffries bit, Albert already brought up a bit with phillip and he showed genuine regret for helping Phillip, but we still don't know where Phillip sides, aside that he wants Dopplecoop back in the lodge and dead.

    • @JackRipper8881
      @JackRipper8881 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, I'm getting frustrated with this theory these two presenters are following.
      At no stage has Albert shown he is a bad guy, in fact the opposite is true as you have pointed out.
      If he was working against Gordon why would he save him from the vortex and why would he point out the body of Ruth Davenport? I wonder whether they are watching the same episodes I'm watching as I don't know how they come to this conclusion.

    • @daridane5603
      @daridane5603 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Raiden Crow
      We know that Philip Jeffries had worked with Mr.Cooper in the past (and Albert inadvertently helped them), but Mr.C realized that it wasn't him on the phone in Part 2 ("It's Philip Jeffries... right?") and this "fake" Jeffries is the one who want "be with BOB again". I also think that the man who's paying Ray to kill the Doppelganger is the same individual (altough Ray is convinced it's Jeffries as well).

    • @maxswedberg1239
      @maxswedberg1239 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      there have been just some sketchy moments that Albert has been apart of, which is where they are getting this "bad feeling." They aren't asserting he is gonna be evil just kinda worried about it and I was too before reading this, so hopefully they do as well!

    • @crazykobold1644
      @crazykobold1644 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah that is probably the most baseless and ridiculous speculation I have heard yet this season. I don't believe anyone from the trio of Gordon, Albert and Tammy will go bad. I would be extremely disappointed if Lynch went with the incredibly overused 'that good guy was a BAD guy ALL ALONG!' trope. There's literally no reason to think it will happen.

    • @JackRipper8881
      @JackRipper8881 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Max Swedberg please point out exactly where Albert has been "sketchy" because I fail to see where he has been anything but upfront in his dealings with Gordon.
      The opinion the presenters have taken is nowhere near what I have viewed in these episodes and I've watched them several times over.
      They have taken a stance, and despite evidence to the contrary, decided to stick to some flimsy theory in the hope they will be proven right.

    You missed Diane's Cigarette signal. When Albert and Cole find Ruth's body and go over there, Diane is exhales smoke and at the same time says 'NAAAAW' (NOW). Revisit the scene (at around 14:10 in episode) and you would witness it. She is the one who signaled woodsman to come at a time when no one was looking.

    Some observations:
    1) The music playing behind Becky when she goes crazy is the Hiroshima music we hear in the nuclear explosion in Episode 8
    2) The neighbor who appears when Becky looks for Steven is Lauren Tewes (Julie McCoy from the Love Boat)
    3) Starting to think that the person Diane is working with is Audrey, who is in hiding as Linda - they both are against Evil Coop
    4) Shelley tells Becky to stay with her, and then when she sees Red she says she'll meet him later
    5) Believe Episode 12 will go in a completely different direction (ala Episode 8);

    Well done, I didn't pay attention to the wallaper ! Now I think the stairway in the vortex are the same we could see in laura's house. It's also reminds me the drawing of Dougie on the insurance papers.
    Another thing : Candie seems to be a Dougie-like, maybe for Laura (wich would explain why Leland asked Dale to find her)

    • @gloriaillustrations3483
      @gloriaillustrations3483 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Phil Adams that's a possibility. Lynch did that in Lost Highway too, that I love. But in both films, the dream was a response to the guilt, as a deny, a kind of dissociation disorder. We can think that Cooper is in a coma since he's been shot at the end of season 1, but 25 years after that? Could he dream of his friends getting older, new cars, all the new technologies...? I don't think so, and I would be kind of disappointed.

    When Hastings's head explodes, it sounds like when the Woodsman crushes people's heads. Also, the lady who calls him Mr. Jackpots kisses Dougie on the cheek, like the lady in Ep. 8 kisses the golden Laura Palmer orb.

    Mike talked to Coop in his dream in the original show, so did Bob. Annie and Dale have appeared to Laura in her dreams in FWWM, so did the giant to Coop in season 2, plus Coop had all kind of dreams. The Lodge spirits (and apparently even people trapped in the Lodge) are able to appear or talk to people in dreams or make them have specific dreams. So while we don't know exactly what kind of powers Mike has, we know that he can do stuff with people's dreams, so yeah, it sounds pretty obvious he was behind Rodney Mitchum's dream.

    The street name of the abandoned area where Gordon and Albert saw the portal and the woodsmen was '2240 Sycamore'.
    A clear connection to the entrance of the Black Lodge in Twin Peaks which is surrounded by sycamore trees.

    Here's a thought about Dougie. Since Cooper and Mr. C both can't be in the same world at the same time, perhaps Cooper is getting around this loophole by being Dougie, and can only become Cooper again when Mr. C goes back to the black lodge. Thoughts?

    What about Diane's perspective being backward in the Buckhorn scene? When she looks at the run down house, the trailers appear on the left when in reality they are on the right. She later says she saw the Woodsman leave the car, when we saw her witness the Woodsman enter the car.

      Curious... does anybody know the significance of "Sycamore" as used by Lynch? American Sycamore trees are not native to Washington. Now the "Sycomore Fig" has a lot of very ancient references from the Egyptians/Middle East/ Torah/ Bible/ Hindu, maybe even the infamous Eve eating the "apple" was a reference to a fig?

    Did anyone else notice how Dougie became mesmerized by the the song the pianist was playing when the old woman approached him at the restaurant? That song is the same song that was sung by Jimmy Scott in the Black Lodge, in episode 22, when Dale first arrives there..."Sycamore Trees" (at least it sounded like it to me...)

    Things you missed:
    Dougie says "Dougie Jones"; to the Mitchums. He includes his last name. Dougie begins to retain things, not only repeat.

    3:30 Where is this whole Albert is evil/working against Gordon idea coming from?
    Are we all watching the same episodes or is there two versions of this show?
    Albert pulls Gordon out of the vortex. Now why would he do do that if he was working against Gordon?
    Wouldn't he just let Gordon get sucked up to be murdered by the Woodsmen?
    Instead he drags him back and points out the body of Ruth Davenport.
    Wouldn't it make more sense to usher Gordon away and come back later to investigate the body?
    Just goes to show that two people can watch the exact same thing and come to two different conclusions but you are wrong on this one.

    I can't find anyone talking about this. In the beginning scene, two boys are throwing a ball back and forth, but there are two oddities or mysteries: (1) When one boy throws the ball (from left to right), there is BAD/prominent skip in the film (trees/background) as you follow the ball on the 1st throw. (2) When the boy throws the ball back to the original boy, a completely different boy catches it! I say the film skip/bad continuity is purposely there because if you argue that it's a mistake, why are all the other throws back and forth seamless as the boy(s) on the left side change every time? In other words they CAN create a seamless background as the left boy mysteriously changes, so it must have been on purpose. I think there will be two realities or worlds. I think the meaningless scene of Andy and Lucy picking out a red vs. beige chair is connected to this as well (Lucy clicks on the chair she didn't want).

    • @JackRipper8881
      @JackRipper8881 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Had to play that bit over a couple of times as I thought something similar but the older boy is throwing the ball to two different kids, a young kid that he lobs the ball underarm to and a slightly older boy. You see all three as the older one asks the two younger boys to go and get their mother after they spot Miriam crawl out from the bushes.

    Great recap as always. Must say that if your breakdown was useful at the midway point, it's become completely essential viewing by now. Which leads me on to my enquiry (slash hopeful request): are you planning on doing a round up of the last few episodes? It would be greatly appreciated I'm sure by many. I've certainly not found the analysis as thoughtful and as concise anywhere else!

    I caught onto this late but I noticed as early as episode 2 after Hastings argues with his wife in the jail cell, the camera moves several cells down revealing a Woodsman sitting on a bed in a cell. Then his body disappears and his head floats up exactly how Hastings described what happened to Major Briggs in episode 9

    Candy and company are out of time. They're from the past. Rewatching it hit me. From the old dusty strip to "so many cars on the road". Their clothes are like 50 years ago. They're lost dreamers or something from a previous lodge cycle.

    You noted Diane's fingernail colors, I first noticed her nails when we first visited at her apartment, her nail colors matched her lamp seen in on the table the background when she went for coffee.
    I also think the colors (I might be wrong) are more Red, White and Blue, rather than Black.

    Towards the end of the episode, when Rodney Mitchum tries the cherry pie, he says "This pie is damn good" and Dougie seems to be reminiscent of something. I think Dougie is Cooper already, but he needs some major event to trigger a stronger flashback that will bring him back from this sort of comatose state. Surely meeting someone from Twin Peaks will do; bad Coop could be the one he needs to meet.

    When Bradley Mitchum grabs his brother Rodney by the head and insists that they are together in regard to the pie in the box it's almost exactly like Michael Corleone grabbing Fredo in Godfather II. Mitchum & Corleone similarities.

      I wondered about the shaking hands back in season 2 and found that shaking hands was a symptom of the drug that Gerard (one-armed man) was using to not allow the spirit MIKE from being in control. remember they trapped him in the bathroom stall and didn't allow his drug to be take to reveal MIKE the spirit? So someone with shaking hands COULD be on the drug meaning that they are already possessed.

    A thing to pay attention to in the woodsmen scene with the FBI: A lot of things get warped around. First we see the a woodsman in between that shack and a blue shipping container on the right. Later on, the shack and shipping container switch positions in the frame. Also, Agent Cole's flag pin keeps swirling on his lapel. Lastly Diane says she saw the woodsman exiting the car when she actually saw him approaching it. I don't know what it means, but it's damned interesting.

    • @JackRipper8881

      I'm wondering whether Diane sees things reversed and that was the reason they chose her to identify evil Cooper. That Woodsmen that we saw between the reversed blue shipping container and the house seems to be from Diane's perspective.
      Maybe I'm reading too much in to this. :-)

    “When two separate events occur simultaneously pertaining to the same object of inquiry we must always pay strict attention!”
    -Special Agent Dale Cooper
    So what about this? Both Lynch and Frost tweeted the exact same thing at the exact same moment about the return of Twin Peaks : 'Dear Twitter Friends : That gum you like is going to come back in style. #damngoodcoffee' So maybe they were already telling us then, that the gum will trigger Dougie back to Agent Cooper. Or is this to far fetched ?

    I look forward to this wrap up each week almost as much as the Twin Peaks episode. Just one thing I noticed listening on headphones. Did you guys know that you have the stereo separation for Greg & Ryan in the wrong ears? Greg comes through on the right side and Ryan comes through on the left. It creates a little weirdness when the sound is coming from the other side of what you're watching (hear Ryan left, see him standing on the right in the video). Gotta fix those mic pans on the mixer (or check the lavs before recording). I love your breakdowns so funny. Keep it up!

    About that (great) piano song in the end. I haven't read all the comments, but am I the only one who immediately thought of "Sycamore Trees" sung by Jimmy Scott (easiest to find on the "Fire walk with me" soundtrack? I mean the first three slow notes he hits, listen to "Sycamore Trees" from like 2:35 and on ("And I see you...") After those notes I guess it floats away, but still. My thought was that it was that resemblance that caught Coop's interest in that scene. At least it caught me there.

    Excellent commentary this week guys. Didn't even notice Diane's nails until it was pointed out here. Love the shout out to Chris Isaak as well, as I feel his character is definitely a loose piece of the puzzle waiting to be placed. After all, he just disappeared with not much discussion as to what happened or where he went. It seems significant somehow that thread needs some closure. Hoping Let's Rock is a link to his story in which it was written on his car window. Hopefully Miriam got to the hospital OK and will give some kind of statement before Chad or Richard get to her first...

    21:53 Diane's nails are painted black and grey and the ring finger on both hands are painted red.
    You can see it clearly in various scenes.
    The colour scheme of her nails is the same colour as those spots on the back of her mobile phone and the same as the three lampshades/lights in her apartment.

    The way the Mitchums are standing in front of Dougie (and the cars) at 16:55 echoes the shot of Cole and Albert in front of Tammy (and the FBI car) at 5:59. Does this mean we can trust Tammy, like how the Mitchums can trust Dougie?

    I think the overall sense of this episode was impending doom; regular, ordinary people slowly losing their minds and doing reckless, violent things while Black Lodge's negative influence slowly weeps into our dimension. And the Twin Peaks is the ground zero of this approaching Armageddon.

    2 things that no one has brought up is, 1. Shelley may have been pregnant by Leo and didn't tell Bobby or she knew and Bobby raised Becky as his own and 2.Diane was sitting on a bar stool that gave her a higher position over everyone else possibly being on purpose to say she knows more than the others. Also 3. Is it ever going to come to light that Bobby killed someone since Laura is dead but she however mentioned it to James before she died? It is ironic that Bobby used to do cocaine, killed a guy and now he's a sheriff's deputy.
