What To Do After You've Quit Scrolling (Stay Away From Social Media For Good)

  • Here's what you should be doing once you've quit social media. A good place to start is to fill up most of your day with habits that are undoubtably good. Once you've got that down and have gotten rid of your old habits, it's time to build your purpose. Finding and building purpose can be be very difficult. It requires you to look deep into yourself to see what your life needs and what you are naturally drawn towards. What would you do if money didn't exist and you didn't have to earn anything? What is the thing that you naturally find fun, fulfilling, and enjoyable? What would you still find yourself doing, even if it didn't make you any money? Ask yourself those questions and see where you find yourself. It may take a while for you to find an answer to those questions, so stay on the right path and keep looking for your purpose.

    I was amazed when my class laughed when I told my teacher “I am ashamed I don’t read as much as I should.”
    I was raised to think reading is bare minimum, and it is insane people don’t think that.

    The problem with me is, I’ve been so ambitious to the point that there are way too many things I’m currently trying to “balance” - Ice skating, volleyball, tennis, swimming etc. I love doing all of these things but I’ve also always been into drawing and writing, so inherently, like you. I know these two things are my purpose, but I also don’t want to quit the other things I’ve built up on..

    • @c.vtietobbi

      don’t feel forced to do it,i know it’s hard but do what you like more.it’s more easy said than done but learn to let go of things.i am sure you worked hard with volleyball,ice skating and tennis but if you never try than you will never now.give it a try remember life is not that serious you still have the skills i’m sure you will find a solution good luck XD

    • @MaxwellRhoe
      @MaxwellRhoe  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +29

      If you know that writing and drawing are what you care about the most and that one of them is your purpose, go all in on it. Imagine you have to circles that represent your energy. One of the circles has 20 or 30 arrows going out of it. Each of these arrows represent the things you do. For you its ice skating, volleyball, tennis, and other things. The second circle only has a few arrows. This one represents your life if you removed everything else and just focused on the few things you care about the most. For example, drawing and writing, family, and health/fitness. These few arrows go out so much farther than all of the arrows from the first circle I mentioned. When your energy is stretched thin, you make mediocre progress in everything (at most). When you focus on a few things and sacrifice everything else, you will start to see progress like you have never seen before.

      I think it's also OK to have many different interests, and to be just, at least for the moment, mediocore in it, as long as you are happy with it. And isn't it a privilege, that you have so many interests in different things? I assume you are still young and have the most of your lifetime ahead of you (as I am and do). So, dont stess yourself, enjoy the things that you love to do, and with time some things will change anyway. Because you get in a relationship, or brake up. Because you or people in your surroundings move to other places. Because you start a family. Because ther are changes in your job situation. Because your getting older, and so on. Some things will get boring and some other things more intereseting, so that the priorities will change automatically. So when the time has come, it's about to let go and focus on the things that are the most important. I hope that maybe helped a little bit.

    U got me at the "purpose" part not gonna lie. Right now I'm a computer science student, but I never imagined myself doing this to be honest, and although I'm only in the first year, I'm sure it's not something I would genuinely like to do and it's far from something I always dreamed. However, it is what will provide me with a more stable and peaceful life.
    The problem is that since I knew what a career was, I always said I wanted to be a veterinarian. I only had animal toys, I pet any animal on the street (even if they have bitten me before), I can't explain the connection I have always felt for animals. For me they are the purest creatures on the planet and the feeling of taking care of them is inexplicable. However at least in my country, sometimes the salary of a vet is half the salary odlf a programmer and I am afraid i will not be able to separate my feelings from work when I get home. I'm truly lost, like I've never been before.

      Chase your dreams and the money will follow you. Chase the money, and you'll be disappointed. That is something my friends dad (who is a multimillionaire) told me when I was stuck as well. It is what had me pursue psychology instead of business, despite knowing business would bring more opportunities.
      A quote I heard recently from a TH-camr, can't remember their name, said "what would you do with your life if you knew you couldn't fail?"

      Do you eat meat? If so, maybe a way to support animals would be to become vegan. You could rescue a pet. You could help in some other way. There are many highly efficient and practical ways to work on something meaningful without having to go all in on it. But I reckon if you're already doing some of the things I've mentioned or helping in another way and you are really sure this is your thing, then go for it.

    In my opinion the sense of purpose is not in a single objective, it is actually in everything we do and experience, it can include being scientists, programmers, entrepreneurs, philosophers, travelers. The simple fact of living and doing things that we like to do or trying new things is what fills you with fulfillment, but it seems to me that being accompanied by good people is what gives us a plus.

      No matter what, just keep trying relentlessly. I don't think I'm very special unlike what you said, I just have a strong desire to improve in the things I care about. I possess something most people don't have, but if you already have a flame lit inside you (no matter how small) you can grow it into a raging fire. I know you feel like you have barely changed, but just look at how much you've grown your knowledge and appreciate the changes you have made so far. If you are here watching these videos, you genuinely are different than most people and have knowledge that most people in modern society don't have. It can be hard to know what you want to work towards at a young age, but you can search for and find your calling on this path of self-improvement. Just don't leave the path. It doesn't matter how small or slow you think your progress is right now, just never stop improving and searching, and like I always say, you'll be grateful for it later.

Before smartphones, people would browse a magazine...hmm, would smoke a cigarette or doodle. This inbetween "numb your mind" moments is what Im wondering about. To succesfully stop scrolling I need an activity that scratches a similar itch. Then I can work on reducing that activity too, but high will power habits isnt exactly what will replace scrolling entirely. There needs to be a passive, low E, easy task. I just continue to say "in and out" with my breathe and focus on how the breathe feels going in and out. It's not about the streak with a habit tracker. It's a reminder and a way to see your progress. If you miss one day and don't mark it on the habit tracker, so what? You look at it wholistically. Like I said "It's not about the streak, it's about doing it more days than you don't." A habit tracker will allow you to see if something isn't working. For example, when I looked back at my habit tracker from the past two months I had probably only read 5 days out of 60. That was really a wake up call for me and now I'm reading almost every day.
