What a competitor - when Larrys face hit the floor he fractured his right cheek bone and had a concussion but Larry could not sit by and watch his team lose, so he snuck back on court behind his doctors back and they won the game. THAT is the heart of a champion.

Something incredible, Larry's retirement 'EVENT' was just that, it was not held before a game, at half time, it was a complete night of it's own, the Boston 'Gahden' SOLD OUT for his retirement EVENT, on it's own....it was an event, all it's own, tickets sold AND sold out

  • @herrzimm

There are 3 types of NBA "GOATS":
There are the "Cheetahs" like Jordan, Magic, Kobe. The ones who beat you with grace and speed. Who excel at quick paces and a finesse in their movements. The type who once they get up to speed, will score on you until they wear themselves out.
Then you have the "Lions" like Abdul, Hakeem and even Lebron. The ones who beat you with strength and aggression. Their power can be countered, but only by willing to either "feed them" points until they need to sit and nap after eating so many points. Or you cage them and take them out of the game.
Then you have the "Tiger", Larry Bird. He isn't the fastest, he isn't the strongest. But he will pounce out of the jungle (distance) and charge into the attack (paint) and fight it out all night. He will chase you, fight you, block your escape, or simply smother you all night long. And if he is losing the fight, he fades back into the jungle (3pt land) and continues to stalk you all night long (By hitting long/3pt shots). So, no matter what, either in your face or faded into the jungle, you STILL have to know where he is, how he could attack, WILL he attack, and if he does HOW will he do it.... in your face, by a 3pt shot, or by simply charging you and forcing you to commit to that charging Tiger to only do a last-second pass to someone else on the team.
THAT is what makes the difference in the GOAT conversation. The ones who have their "style" that can be slowed or caged. Or the one who simply can't be stopped because no "one strategy" can work for long before HE switches up his own play-style.

The look on Bird's face when he came back out of the locker room says it all. He was an intense competitor and that stare was priceless. I'm a Lakers fan and these series were always intense but decades later we're all better for it. Also, the Rambis foul was hard but no one cried about it. That's something that has been lost in sports these days.

The left-handed game in Portland, i was there.
To see Clyde the glide Drexler put his head in hand and laugh at what Larry was doing is burned in my brain.
The legend and the magic saved the NBA, and as a fan I will always be grateful to them both!

At the end of the video clip, when they retired Larry's jersey, it was not on a game night. The Celtics held a special ceremony at Boston Garden and tickets for the event sold out in a few hours. Hosted by Bob Costas, it was basically a one and a half hour retirement celebration of Bird. Not many athletes get that kind of treatment.

Larry was a three time MVP and what most don't know is that he was runner up three years prior to the three he won ,so anybody could debate for him to be the player of at least the 80's ,but i think he could be top 5 to 7 best of all time ,but he could have been better if not for injuries before his prime.

Appreciate seeing someone new react to the LEGEND! That 3 quarter court, UNNECESSARY behind the back pass to Reggie Lewis was the next game for Bird after Magic announced he contracted HIV, and Bird was HONORING Magic! Kinda weird it was to Lewis who unfortunately passed away young? Reggie was a very good player, guarded Jordan as well as anyone, and was a great teammate and good guy!! Gives me chills every time, along with the crowd reactions after Bird came back from hitting his face on the floor! Keep doing the reactions🤙! I will be checking out your music as well! Much love and respect 🤙

Bird started his career with ROY, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd in MVP. 3 rings, 2 finals MVPs(should have been 3),every single 3pt contest he was in, and was a 2 time member and FOUNDER of the 50/40/90 club. The greatest clutch performer in NBA history. Basketball genius on the same level as Russell.

Im a huge Bird fan, but im grown up enough to also respect the other greats and there are just too many to pick one stand alone player. Everyone talks about who is THE goat though anyone can have their personal favorite, but I dont think with so many greats there can be just ONE goat. Lets not forget how many greats there have been in the past, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and the list just goes on. I look at it more as a top ten or top five and each player being a standout, but I will say this and its been said by some very respected people in the NBA - even though he wasnt fast or couldnt jump very high Larry is possibly the most complete all around player to ever play the game, because he could literally play every position on the court and hit a shot from any place he chose and many times under heavy guard in badly off balance situations. But with so many greats over the decades im sure this is a discussion that will forever be on the table and arent we lucky to have such greats to look back on in video no matter what your personal choice.

Magic & Larry, resurrected the game of basketball......My dad loved basketball, but stopped watching, until the competition between Johnson & Bird was highlighted......What my Dad used to say, about Larry's game, is that it reminded him of someone, who was not only playing basketball, but also, volleyball, dodgeball, hockey, baseball, track & Field, soccer, & strategic chess, all at the same time, and was what made him so great 😊He certainly was one of the most unique and gifted players, I have ever watched! 🏀🏀🏀

My favourite thing about sports reactions is (although I'm English,) is that there's no discrimination on colour or teams. I've seen blacks bigging up Bird, whites bigging up Jordan and it's a pity this won't filter out into society in general. Good reaction! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Bird had a back condition in the 91-92 season. He had a compressed nerve in his back in which left him in excruciating pain for every game. Doctors tried to remove the bad disk but didnt work. So when Magic came along he had trouble just trying to play. Thats why he retired in 1993 Nowadays if someone falls on the court they automatically dont play for like 4 games. Larry didnt care about pain or the fact that he shouldnt have played for many of those games when he was really hurt. Ah the good old days

Your street ball comment was actually pretty insightful. When he was growing up out in the country, he used to go into the city to play street ball with the guys there. So, I would say it’s the other way around. He learned those moves from street ball players he played with back then. That’s probably where he learned his trash talking as well.

Magic and Bird, the greatest NBA rivalry; they pulled the NBA out of the ratings slump it was suffering in the late 70s.
Now, if you want to return to music reactions but still have a basketball element, and you want to listen to a true tearjerker, you must watch Cryin for me / Wayman's song by Toby Keith. Wayman Tisdale was one of the greatest college basketball players of all time, plus he had a successful NBA career. But his greatest love--after his wife, Regina, and his kids--was music. He taught himself to play the bass guitar. Even more amazing, he was left handed, so he taught himself to play left-handed on a right-handed bass guitar. He went on to become a successful jazz guitarist--and he and Toby Keith, both from Oklahoma, became good friends. So when cancer took Wayman in 2009, Toby wrote and sang "Cryin for Me" as a tribute to his good friend Wayman.

I usually watch your music reactions. Sometimes I wonder if younger Brothers thinking Bird was just a shooter isn't part of the same bill of goods that has them thinking the Beasties are some band inspired by Limp Bizkit. If they processed how insanely influential people like that were on ball and hip hop they'd have to admit something profound about what we've lost as a society since the mid 80s

I have liked and subscribed. You do an amazing job and your commentary is spot on! And you don't talk over the video so that was really nice. I watched Larry, Magic, Kareem and all the great players! Bird was the best Kareem was right behind him. Magic was the best passer even better than Bird and his assist numbers were off the charts! The best player I ever watched is still Jordan. Bird is somewhere between number 2 and 10 but there are so many great players its hard to say exactly where. At the time Bird played he was the best in my lifetime although I did not watch enough of Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain or others to say for sure. Keep posting videos like this! And Thanks!

Imagine what either Bird or Magic could've done if the other wasn't there.

Check out the one on Michael Jordon! It’s amazing also! I watch any think about Bird or Jordon! I’m from NC, so I followed Jordon from UNC TO NBA, and Bird was my late father’s favorite, so we argued a lot about who was the best, (I miss that😭🤘😬💯) of all time of course!

As far as music goes. Pink Floyd, Comfortably Numb came out in the mid 70s. David Gilmour is the guitarist for Floyd, now fast forward to David Gilmour comfortably numb live at Pompei 2016. David is 70 years old in this video and is better than ever. Especially the 2nd solo. You'll experience the sound, lights and atmosphere of Pink Floyd, a must experience YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPPOINTED.

Bird & Magic were more than friends
They are & always will be family
You won't find that in sports today

I didn't know it, but I just watched the video of the Hawks-Celtics game where Bird scored 60 (in New Orleans). It's here on TH-cam That great shot at the end where he called it and fell into the trainers lap? The one that caused the Hawks players to get fined by Mike Fratello? It didn't even count. The refs called the foul before the shot so they disallowed the basket (but the free throws did put him over McHale's record). That's funny.
