I am a long term user. 30 years; prescribed for post partum depression. This is a super accurate story of what many of us have been through. The medical gaslighting is the worst! It really messed with my previous high self confidence. Thank you both for this interview.

Many of the elderly will not have the luxury of having 30, 20, or even 10 years to see the end of recovery....but we sure as hell will fight this dependence until the day we die. We do this not because we are brave but because it is the right thing to do. We have been lied to about the effects of these drugs and sometimes when you get older it can be either a matter of principle or a matter of making things right because of or in spite of the fact that we have so little time left. I may not reach the light at the end of the tunnel...but that's direction I'm headed.

I feel my life was wasted and I’m just now in taper from 27 years. I’m 59 & feel that my life is useless and it’s over. This is so sad.

Hi. I'm just shy of 64. I've been on klonopin for 30 years. I was on 8 mg for decades and I'm down to .25 mg AM & .25 at bedtime. Been withdrawing for about 7 YEARS! Obviously, the root of my anxiety (nervousness, really) was never addressed. I'll stay on the .25 for awhile, then start shaving the tabs or putting it in water. You CAN do this. I've had NO help from "doctors". The community online has helped me. Hang in there. It is rough, but it is possible to get off, too. I wish you good health!

Can I make a comment I’m 55 and have been on Diazepam since 1999 is my brain damaged or can I get off it and down the years find peace

Yes, you can get off, but you must take it very, very slowly, especially since you have been on for such a long time. We suggest you look into micro tapering as a method as it's anecdotally very safe and tolerated - there are coaches and programs (like, wittdoerringpsychiatry.com for example) that can support and guide you through the process. You can also find info at: benzoinfo.com

Goed dat je verhaal hier doet! Ikzelf ( vrouw 65) in protracted WD van een antidepressiva. Nu bijna beter na 41 maanden. Daarvoor 4 maanden taperen. More awareness is soo important. Dank!

I started in my 60s. Slow tapering, holding, more slow tapering is the way. I am down to a small amount, but I am in no rush. I am three years into it.

@@hypermonki I am 59 and am non functional in a taper that I thought was slow but I am not functional and I have no life. So are you able to live life while tapering. I’m mostly stuck in bed and useless and judged by everyone around me. I took 11 months to taper down 0.6mg Clonazepam.

I was on dalmane 30mg for 20 years. Took according to prescription. Myelin stopped making dalmane in 2022. That is when my nightmare began. I was treated like a drug addict. No one believed the hell I was going through , no one. My doctor placed me on 5mg diazepam but immediately started cutting the dose. He said i could come off in 2 mos. I finally researched on you tube and discovered what was happening to my horror. A np psychiatrist tried to polypharma me. She said 2 mos was sufficient also. After 4 mos of pure hell I found a np who took pity on me and rekindled me on 20 mg diazepam. I still feel as if I have neurological damage but at least i can function. My life will never be the same.

Yes, I need purpose because otherwise i just want to die but i have no energy at all. I feel that way. I can’t think of anything to do to have purpose. I can’t even talk straight. I need help. I can’t last much longer like this

"A state of sanctification enjoyed through divine assistance" (Webster's definition of Grace) x2
Like yourself so many of us have gone through or are going through a very difficult time. A lack of energy, lack of purpose and motivation can be overwhelming and a time of reprieve often times seems no where in sight...but it is there. When all else fails our faith will somehow provide a form of relief even it is only temporary. When that relief is gone another is not far behind. I offer these words of encouragement to let you know that you are not alone. Sometimes just knowing that you are not the only one going through this terrible time can be a form of comfort. You are not alone.
I will say a prayer that through your faith and by the Grace of God you will find strength to endure another day.
We can do this together even if often times we feel we are alone. We are never alone.🙏

Hi, did Naftal Tinnitus go away or get better. Cause if he did, it would help us who are suffering from it ..please and thank you..

I learned how to cope with my tinnitus with cognitive behavioral therapy. Benzos made the tinnitus worse, but as I got down from it, it got better. There is hope! ❤

Im 59. Down to 6 mgs Diaz. In hell. Been so sick last 12 months from taper. I think i have to updose to 8 mgs, just to try and alleviate some symptoms. I think i may never be able to get off this drug in my lifetime. 4 years and in such a frikken mess now and i thought i was going slow. the ashton manual is way off in terms of dose reduction, way too much too fast , and also 'gritting yr teeth and getting on with it"., nope. I can barely function. I feel like i now literally have PTSD from the taper panic attacks plus mcas (v extreme Histamine Intolerance) My poor husband and grown chn. Was tapering even worth this ???? I was better b4 this long drawn out taper 😢😢😢

      @FarewellFix 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Are you tapering under a supervised medical doctor or yourself? You say too fast but if you were using the Ashton Manual you wouldn't be tapering anymore, would of been done long ago.

She actually just gave up tapering, I believe, and stayed on 5mg of Valium. It's Melissa Bond as the author - "Blood Orange Night"
