How best to use a hydroponic grow tower

  • In this video we explain how best to use a hydroponic tower. Vertical grow towers have the advantage of using the least amount of space and are great for a larger variety of crops that typically don't do as well in standard hydroponics. These rain towers are a form of aeroponics and excel at growing plants that require a sandy or more aeriated soil like peppers, strawberries, and tomatoes.
    We explain how to group plants of similar nutrient profiles and where best to locate the plants on the tower.

    I`ve run aeroponics for well over a decade and can say its a very reliable way to grow. I`ve never had a clogged nozzle. The main issue is when you forget to turn the system back on , you learn to double check after you`ve done it a few times :)

    People, the best way for you to learn is get a bunch of seeds & throw them in~!
    It won't be long & you'll know what works & what doesn't. Plus it'll stimulate your little pea brain so you can troubleshoot should things not work out as expected. This is what is known as *"Hands on experience"* 🤗

    In my tower I used a pretty good sized pump that's moving a significant amount of water. My question is if I'm moving too much water am I just washing the roots? I'm running 15 min on 45 off. It's working just could maybe work better.

    The timer saves on electricity which is good because rain towers are not the most energy efficient things. If you measure how much water you pump to the top of your tower in one minute you can calculate how much water you pump in a day, eg; for the 15 on/15 off timing you`d multiply the 1min flow by 720. If you compare that number to the amount of water the plants take from the reservoir in a day you`ll be shocked at the difference :)

    • @andybilakshow260
      @andybilakshow260 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is that why the commercial units are timed every 15 minutes on to the hour?
      I have mine set up for an hour - 2 off. During the heat of the day I run from 12pm - 4pm.
      I find I have to. Otherwise I won't be growing lettuce when the temp goes above 90* I want to grow lettuce year round.

    • @atomizer2665
      @atomizer2665 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andybilakshow260
      When it comes to timing in hydroponic towers anything more than what it takes to wet the roots is a waste, they wont get any wetter :) The most common timers used for towers are the mechanical type which have 15 minute increments. 90 degree heat isnt ideal for lettuce, i`d definitely try to give them shade during the hottest / brightest part of the day. Lettuce needs 300-500 ppfd, full sun is around 2500 ppfd. If you have to run the water constantly to keep the plants upright its more likely to be a temperature issue in the tower rather than a lack of water. Most folks assume the inside of the tower will be the same temperature as the nutrient in the reservoir for some reason :)

    不知圆形台阶上的圆形管,能接几支横向管,得看圆形的大小。筒管里面或许得放细水管使水冲力增强,平均输送去直向下的洞口管头部,洞口管头部放一喷洒器即可。@洞口种植蔬菜的直向管,直通到地面,地面的“直管尾端桶”接收滴落下来的浇灌营养剂液(此落下来的液体恐怕会有很多虫,可以清理掉)。

      Ikr you're suggesting a combo of aero and aquaponics...but then again won't the fish feed affect the plants when the water gets circulated..?

    • @expathydroponics8500
      @expathydroponics8500  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aquaponics is hard. I recommend starting with hydroponics and graduate to aquaponics after you are successful without the fish. measuring the ppm regularly will give you a good idea for when and how often to add nutrients. Mature plants will require more nutrients.

      Usually they're on like 5m on 15m off, or 15m on 45m off.

    A lot of seeds from the big box stores were made for this season though they are stunted, or just not viable. The issue is they keep the packs outside in the grow area where it is VERY hot and humid. I need to find a new source, but going online the seeds are dang expensive.

    • @expathydroponics8500
      @expathydroponics8500  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes - it's expensive but its relative. When in the Philippines - I bought mine online through Lazada (their Amazon). I chatted with the supplier first to make sure they were a distributor and knew how to store seeds. I grow lettuce in the Philippines, so I bought heat tolerant varieties not available in the big box stores. I paid as much as 2 pesos (.04 usd) per pelleted seed, but I got 90+% germination. Also, I wrap unused seeds in foil and store in the refrigerator. In the US - I buy direct from Johnny Seeds.

    • @expathydroponics8500
      @expathydroponics8500  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PPM stands for parts per million. It is a measurement for the amount of dissolved solids in the water. In this case it should tell you the concentration of nutrients in your solution. This is important to the type of plant you are growing. Sorry for the late reply.
