I think you're right on the money about people (fans of Hello Kitty, etc) not really caring about this long term. The only crossover they did was Hello Kitty but Metazoo itself never had a strong, independent, IP of its own and Hello Kitty already has tons of other collectibles for their fans - including other cards. The dead CCGs that are able to continue to grow over time also have a strong active fanbase that manages to keep them alive (ie. things like SWCCG) but the vast majority of the time they are also connected to a strong IP that has weathered the tests of time like Star Wars or a strong, unique, game system. Metazoo never established that strong IP foundation in the first place so its appeal is inherently limited. Beyond that dead games only continue to survive if there is a large, active, playerbase and the fact that the tower events had like 300 viewers and the largest gameplay channel for the game barely broke 1k subs is pretty telling. Maybe when the investors leave the game can truly shine but only time will tell...
I'm in a big zoo Facebook group. So many people are still buying and paying good money for Zoo. It was a meme from day 1. Sadly people were too drunk off the Kool Aid. Also your comment about "too much speculation in tcgs" is a massive understatement. I feel like post 2020 its all tcgs are actually about to the majors of buyers
In the first three years of pokemon they printed three charizards (base, dark, blaine's) and reprinted the base zard 4 times. In three years metazoo had over 30 printings of mothman. Which one is investable? Where is the organic collectability? If you believe the three 1/1 moths will go up (yes they made three), how does that benefit you when you don't own those cards? If you want to buy this stuff wait. It is not going anywhere except down in price.
I think it’s smarter for shops, investors and collectors to move on. So many new good games right now that are affordable and fun! Nom nom verse, dbz fusion world, sorcery, battle spirits saga, Lorcana, etc… even the big games at local shops such as mtg, one piece, and pokemon are quite affordable to play. It feels like game designers have listened to us, the players, and we are in a golden age of tabletops and ccgs. Support your lgs and your favorite online merchants!
I heard Zoo is coming back with another Identity don't worry about it , keep buying the dip , they only have a limited amount printed and this was the biggest sign ever when Mike mentioned the amount of Zoo produced. That was the one . MetaZoo will come back in another light and stay tuned. Big things coming

Yeah, I'm just a spectator in all this (as I only even heard of the game after it failed despite being a casual TCG player), but no one EVER mentions playing the game except in the context of mocking its ruleset as far I've seen from watching the glut of MetaZoo videos TH-cam has thrown at me. It was never going to be a game with players. It was made for the speculative market, to be sold to other speculators on the secondary market, and then die with the bag holders. Just following the typical crypto bro business plan. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but I would have figured the NFTs they sold would have tipped more people off.

Yeah I agree and the profits are just not there. I have one ufo and one 2nd edition on Metazoo. But have a lot of FAB along with Final Fantasy but the boosters have been dipping to the point where it's better just to crack and chase cards.

It definitely didn't look ready to go. I think they knew a lot of Zoo folks might come over with some of the artists they had on board. I think they are kinda figuring it out as they go knowing they could maybe fund with what they had already plus the timing of everything.
