The main set cards were always meh in Metazoo. I'd say the grails of Metazoo are the sample cards and some of the very limited promos.

Never got into Metazoo until recently. Investor Bros really hurt the ability for MetaZoo to grow organically. And mgmt really dropped the ball and screwed a lot of people 😬 but for a collector like myself, I love MetaZoo now 🥰

I've been buying up stuff at prices where I couldn't care less if it stays a dead game.
From PSA cards like kickstarter, kickstarter WPT, unscratched revive all the way to sealed products.
And I live in Australia, so our access to stuff is a lot smaller than the US

I won a sample Loveland Frogman for 1200.00 CDN 😂 paid right away but seller cried over eBay fees being too high 😓

I managed to snag up some psa 10 kickstarter cards, both CN and WPT for $35-50 AUD each, and thankfully those sellers just wanted to clear out their metazoo products.

From the beginning this was plauged with investors and flippers with little to no organic growth and knew this was doomed from the beginning.

I think when the creator of an IP says "I'm done, peacing out, and if I'm not involved the game should be dead," it really puts a damper on the momentum and general good feels... Just my thoughts.
Knew a collector/investor who actually took out a loan for $25,000 to buy 4 kickstarter boxes 2-3 years ago when they were at their highest …said in about 5 years they’d be worth $100,000 each….the interest on the loan itself is way higher than what those 4 boxes are worth now lol…people got greedy …

One of my cards made out into your video! My mothman Kickstarter yes sadly only 528 but I only paid 100 bucks for a loose pack and 20 to grade so for me still.saw some profit but was sad to.see it go for that :(

What if the metazoo people purposely tanked their entire portfolio after selling everything out. Now you have some metazoo employee buying all the PSA 10s for pennies... and in a few months they will announce the metazoo comeback and start releasing sets again. lmao.

This proves that many cards/collectables are bought for investment purposes as well as enjoying the card, if you know something isn't going to be worth it in the future your not paying premium dollars for it

Great video. I read somewhere about 95% of Pokémon collectors don’t play the game (myself included) never felt these cards were collectible, hated the red borders and artwork personally. Have to chuckle at all the people who thought when they announced it was defunct that there would be some residual value or alt market for these. These have gone the way of meme stocks, circling the drain.
Whether you like metazoo or not its fine. The real issue is the shady business practices done by the company and even some collectors. They approached it as an investment rather than a actual collectible card game which comes off as a get rich quick scam more than anything. Anyone telling you to buy now because itll be worth a lot later os just trying to influence the demand to ultimately and hopefully save the market and their investments. But with all this talk about the cards value i never seem to hear anything about the actual product, like its gameplay. MTG lasted this long and hold value is because a vast majority of its consumers actually enjoy the product beyond its financial value which goes the same for Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. People enjoy the these card games thus giving it value. So far metazoo has only been from what i can tell in its brief existence is that it tried to replicate Pokemon's card market without putting in any of the work. Pokemon built its brand upon decades of putting out legitimate gaming/ card gaming products. Pokemon's card market was actually a by product of being successful for so long rather than try to start their business out that way as opposed to metazoo.
I have some sealed packs that I'll keep for historical comparison hahahahaha

Metazoo had such great potential
I feel like this would never happen with Pokémon because the art work alone people love. It kinda shows how much someone values a card when it sells for. 10k and drops to 500. Idk if that would happen w a Japanese pikachu cosplay but I could definitely be wrong about that.

30 years ago a tcg called Illuminati new world order came out. It has a similar feel to metazoo. Probably a little more playable though. It’s been 30 years and it’s still not worth much. For everyone who thinks metazoo is going to skyrocket in the future, just look to the past failed tcgs for your answer.

Hahahaha I remember when this all came out and people were paying prices equivalent to WOtC Pokemon booster boxes after 20 years of appreciation right off the bat. How bad at math do you have to be to think some new, kind of goofy concept with zero history or organic interest would be worth 50-100 TIMES MSRP out of the gate? Not even I thought it would go out of business after 3 years, but I knew demand would die and it would crash super hard. Just a sign of things to come in the larger economy since everyone's free money dried up and now their bills are up 60% thanks to all that socialist money creation and "free" handouts.
