2020 Trek Marlin 4 vs Marlin 5! What’s the Difference?

In this video I compare both the U.S. and international versions of the 2020 Trek Marlin 4 with the 2020 Trek Marlin 5, including women's versions. I go over all the main differences that will help you determine which bike is right for you!

Corrections to video: The 2020 Marlin 5 has a sealed bottom bracket, but it also has threads and is not a press fit bracket as I had pictured in my explanation. This just means these bikes are even more similar to one another.
Additionally, both Marlin 4 models have a *freewheel, not a cassette. Freewheels are commonly found on less expensive bikes, while cassettes are typically found on more expensive, modern bikes. Cassettes are often faster as well.

What is your opinion about the 2021 models of marlin 4 and 5?

The wife just purchased a 2021 Marlin 5 (purple flap) at a local bike shop for $599.99 plus tax. Maybe the extra $ was a coronavirus surcharge. I've seen some call the bike an 'entry level' bike, I don't agree being it's her 4th trail bike. I ride a 2013 Trek Mamba, also called by some an 'entry level' bike. Now for your thoughts, thanks.

It’s considered an entry level bike for sure, but compared to entry level bikes just a few years ago it’s definitely an upgrade. It’s considered entry level because compared to most mountain bikes trek sells, its the least expensive and has lower end components.

The international versions look like the 2018 US models. I have the quicksilver with the same frame as what you show as the 2020 international version.

Still want to Purchase the 2021 Marlin 4 (US version) LBS act as though they don't want to stock or sell them..Every MTB Rider isn't interested in dropping $700/$800 - $1k USD or more. If you're not aggressively riding, like grass, gravel, dirt singletracktrack is more than enough.. IMO.

I got a Volt Green 2020 Marlin 5 recently. I read ( and asked) on the Trek website that it is supposed to come with a freehub and cassette, but mine came with a freewheel so i guess they sold me a 2019 even though the receipt says 2020. :(

Oh that's strange. I guess the bikes do look pretty similar from those two years so maybe that's why. Maybe you can try asking the shop you got it from?

If you can't afford a real bike...you buy a Marlin. At the very least, the 6. But why not look at the Kona Fire Mountain. Ya your paying 150 more than the 6. But you get way better parts and a SR Suntour XCR. The fork on the 4,5,6 Marlin are shit! Pogo stick.
