A Chat With Brian Jacks About Expat Insurance in Pattaya Thailand 🇹🇭

- In this video, I talk with Brian Jacks and David Mills at the View Dee Apartments about the importance of accident insurance when living in Pattaya, Thailand. Whether you live in Bangkok, Pattaya or Jomtien, you do need to think about how you will manage in the event of an accident.
Pattaya in Thailand is a haven for expats. However, unforeseen accidents can happen anytime, anywhere. This is why having reliable accident insurance is more than just a financial safeguard.
Brian Jacks explains how he needed to make a claim on his insurance after a minor accident. There are many options available, including monthly payment plans.

What an absolute legend from my childhood... looking good Brian Jack's.
I will be filming his book signing on Saturday so a new video of Brian will be online next week. 👍
I've stayed here .. amazing place great bloke and lovely community feel tonthe place ❤
For most Brits moving to Thailand the cost of annual insurance would be covered by the savings on not paying Council Tax anymore.
Very good point. 👍
View Dee apartments are always full.
Thanks in large part to this channel.
Thanks. Yes, a few rooms will be coming available with low season approaching. 😎
its getting a health insurance company you can trust in thailand

Must be going to private hospitals at those prices. I spent 3 days in the local government hospital last year with a lung infection. Cost me 300 USD that included 6 more days of out patient services. Great information, I would not live anywhere with some sort of health insurance.
what government hospital???some of us are too old to get coverage..a soi bakahou clinic wanted 300 baht to put a small bandage on my head...lot of scams in Pattraya and quack medical
Super compelling insights! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful. Thanks. 👍
Great advice Brian and Dave 😊
Thanks. 👍
Excellent. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it. 👍
Had an operation at Med Park in Bankok...and my international insurance ive carried for years...would not pay one baht...dropping it in october....i needed to use 3 clinics in Pattaya...one was a scam...one rude and crude and one was barely acceptable...you guys have a good point...most insurances i investigated had an age 70 cut off age....at 75 i just sort of lost hope...Pacific Cross was available but you wonder about validity....siunds good...i nearly get hit by motor vehicles everyday...how Tbailand has changed...fast pace...many rude reckless drivers....everyone Sells Pattaya but few mention the Traffic hazards...no way i would ride a motorbike...thank god for Grab Taxis
Thanks for the feedback. 👍
What an informative vid...........looking forward to hearing how you and Brian actually met....conveniently edited at the end!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it. I'll be having another chat with Brian soon.
Things can soon get messy in the tropical heat, flies are a plenty if you get a cut,can get infection very quickly
Tell me about it, them fuxxers love a cut, on my mosquitoe bite all the time.
Thanks Heath, Great info. Was looking into insurance for my long stay in June, Will definitely check them out👍
Thanks, Robert. 👍

Im paying 60000 a year, but would never do with out it , every week i know someone that has a massive bill from crashes illness accidents, every week ,
5. 10 20 thousand euros .
Thanks for the feedback.
Too many issues with medical insurance, the biggest one is declaring all previous medical treatments and when, virtually impossible without access to your medical records, insurance is a business, they are in it to make money, if they can get out of paying a claim, they will, simple as that, this is the main reason why people self insure and use government hospitals.
Exactly....been paying my old insurance for two years in Asia and when i put in a claim from a hospital in Bangkok..they did not accept the format of the bills...paid me nothing and i pay 165 us $ a month...cancelling it in october...the truth is most of us a bankrupted by catastrophic illness in the end...so i have given away 2/3s of my savings...i find my generation humourous and immature compared to my grandfathers generation...growing old...you should grow up and be useful to the end...my legacy will not be 30 years of playing Golf and Drinks with the Boys in Thailand...self serving indulgence...permanent vacation...we are likely the last generation to see retirement
Dave, is it true that less than a quarter of Insurance claims ever get paid out worldwide. I also read something about being injured or taken ill, whilst under the influence of alcohol in Thailand is an obstacle with insurance claims too. So age is not the only thing to consider whilst abroad. 🤔🙏🏻🙏🏻
Good question. Best to contact David’s Operations Manager Leo Ashley via email at leo.ashley@aiasia.net
👍👍
Buy insurance directly from the insurance companies it will be cheaper than thru brokers.
What is the adress of Brian if in case I want to rent room
The condo address is. 64/37 26 off Sukhomvite 53, Mapyailia, Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri 20150. A link is in the description.
If you're a Brit thinking about going to Thailand but you don't want to take out health insurance then the decision is easy........ don't go stay in feezing wind swept pouring rain England.
i was dumbfounded to see the huge number of Brits and Aussies in Pattaya...stayed away for 30 years...same story from the retirees..."me ciuntry is going to hell...its boring...the bloody weather is horrible....piss is expensive....utilities rape you....i love Thailand!!! well boys.?if your Pension is coming from the UK....lets hope some young people stay and work and contribute..We cannot All runaway to Paradise....our ancestors fought and died for our Countries...wonder why they did not just run off to Thailand?? I assume at some point my Pension will stop or be Cut...they are telling my Son that he may not get one at all. So i donot get too giddy about Paradise...your Welcome as long as you have a pocket full of baht. It amazes me that this generation lives so long...my father died at 46....we were never meant to survive in such huge numbers. 5 years from now we will be dying like sprayed cockroaches...more ambulances will be needed.
Looking very good for78i had a mojor stroke I wonder if I could get insurance

Brain why not do this in Cambodia
??
I need a medical insurance in thailand for 3 month a year travel insurance are getting expensiv a
I have health insurance & two accident plans , you just never know ..
Yes. If funds permit, it's a good idea. Not sure why you would need two accident plans, unless they cover different things .🤔
@@fromoneendofthailand just bit of extra cover really on top of my 1st one , it was at a discounted price from scb , my main Health cover is P Cross , the issue of course , is when you get older & more likely to get sick or ill the price can be prohibitive 🥹
@@fromoneendofthailand and if you here long term it’s sensible too as well
1/. I looked after a US friend who had cancer in ChiangMai. I admitted him into ChiangMai Ram Hospital & the cost was well over 200,000baht. The bill was per injection, per bottle of water etc once admitted & he had no insurance.
2/. Had a Kiwi friend who looked after a UK guy who died in ChiangMai hopitak. The UK guy left a Thai wife & kid but had no money & no insurance. The hospital tried to get my friend to pay the bills as the Uk guy made him executor in his will & my friend didnt even know??. Lucky for him he contacted the uk guy's son who ended up paying the hospital/death bills.... So be careful being an executor....?
3/. Another US friend I had in Pattaya was a multi-multi millionaire--money wasnt an option. Had to get a minor cancer growth out & op. I asked him where --he said Bangkok-Pattaya -Hospital. I asked him why he didnt go to Bumrungrad & get his your own specialist in?? He passed on it---- well he had the op--came out OK---a day later got Pneumonia & died???
4/. Lastly talking about showers. Ron a US expat in ChiangMai owned the ChiangMai Saloon Bars x2. He slipped in his shower & died..... so be careful on those marble floors...... & have insurance---its s must as Ive seen so many foreigners come off bikes with no lids; no insurance & cant pay the hospitals let alone their return fare.......keep on trucking out there......
Glad i'm not your friend 😞😥
How do locals on 10/15000B a month pay for hospitals? Are they on free healthcare? Those hospital fees sound abhorrent. Don't have a need for a hospital in thailand I guess.
There is a basic healthcare for Thai people. Bang Lamung Hospital is mainly for Thais and treatment is very cheap there.
@@fromoneendofthailand I see, so western money is paying those higher fees so that the locals can get cheaper access to healthcare. Clever!
The difference between Bang Lamung Hospital and Pattaya Bangkok Hospital is vast. The latter is like checking into a 5-star hotel.
Why did you cut out the story of how Brian met you?
It was nothing exciting. 🤣
I’m sure it was
Be careful having a to many drinks , and having a accident , insurance company can say your drunk, not paying
How many press-ups can he do now lol
the main thing for Brian is he HAS to slow down on his m/cycle ..... 55555
Use the government hospital this guy as money most have not
You will be surprised how many people slip in the shower, my friend Darryl was living dark side he slipped and split a organ in hes body and sadly passed away in Thailand, not sure if he was insured, thats what i was told anyway 😢
Sorry to hear this.
5:47 is the 1500 annually?
Yes, but keep in mind that is a number off the top of his head. Not a quote or estimate. The cost would depend on your health requirements and circumstances.
Understood, and thanks for the quick response and the video 🙏
@@fromoneendofthailandPPP quoted me 1,500 per month.
I thought it was Anthony Hopkins
It has been said. 🤣
So this is the famous Dave frok David Shield insurance? :)
I don't think so. It's Abbey Insurance.
70 % wouldn't be insured
Hi Heath, thanks for these informative videos that are great for the potential move to Thailand. If I may ask, does view Dee and David (insurance) have websites or whatsapp or everything done via voice calls. Brian’s can you take away and add your own bits of furniture and TV etc
Thanks. Brian is only available by phone and has a Facebook page. Abbey Insurance has a website at www.aiasia.net

You can’t just waltz into an insurance office and take out a policy , oft you need a full medical first .
What is the name of that guy's insurance company?
Abbey Independent Solutions.

You be missing your golf Brian
Krap Pom
He plays several times a week. 👍
The point is you can't afford to not have insurance. If you think you can't afford insurance then you are a person who needs it.
Any insurance company will take your policy money from you . But if you need it , sometimes they will not pay out .
You must declare any past history ,your medical history will be pulled up and may result in non payment .
Best way is to keep healthy and get 6 monthly blood works so you see what may need to be addressed
what is the insurance companys name and contact please
Abbey Insurance. Contact info in description. Thanks.

Well you all talks about accident.....if you need new hips, got cancer, diabetes......other complications who's came with ages...?
We are talking about accidents in this video. Maybe other health conditions are subjects for another video.
I held Brian Jack's face in the mud until he called me uncle
I broke my leg and only paid 35,000 bhat at government hospital No insurance 🙃 at 72 years old love thailand
That's great, not that you broke your leg. 😎
Great to see and listen to Brian, the Superstars dips legend.
That's right. 👍
Hi Heath, brilliant information and great to hear from Brian and see he's happy and healthy...and has definitely developed a lovely complex.
I think sometimes you can change not having good insurance but travelling alone and older it's vital to have decent coverage....sods law says you definitely need it !!
Great vlog !

Thank you, Gary.
Most preexistings not covered by insurance firms in Thailand. Read the fine print ...
Thanks. 👍
The cost of insurance is one of the factors that stop me living here full time. I'll always keep a residence in the UK
Thanks for the feedback. 👍
Can I buy 4or5 months per year?
I have to get out int summer here , too hot for me ?
I do not think so.

another awesome and informative video on a very important subject. Thank you Heath.
Glad you enjoyed it. 🙏
Does he insure tourists coming for a couple of months?
First, check if your bank in your country provides free worldwide travel insurance. Most do. Or contact Leo Ashley on +66 (0) 64 530 6901 or via email at leo.ashley@aiasia.net
Great reporting and information 👍❤️🙏🏆
Thank you. 😎
I think 1.500. GBP for a year is pretty cheap or I am wrong!?
Is it any good? It will cost you to find out.
Thanks for you comment. 👍
1,500 is reasonable, but these policies don't have unlimited cover. AIA quoted me 1,000 a year at age 60 for a maximum 400,000 baht payout. Plus, the premium goes up 30% every 5 years.
So the 60yr. Old senerio at 65,000 baht is that annual or monthly????
Thanks!
Do you mean in total annually or can you pay it monthly? No accident insurance is going to be 65,000 monthly = 780,000 per year. 🤔
So it's 65,000 a year for accident insurance? Sorry, but I'm confused
Depends on age, current health and type of cover but the example in the video was per year. Best to contact David’s Operations Manager Leo Ashley at email at leo.ashley@aiasia.net
Worthless
Thank you. Subscribe for more worthless videos.
Very useful information. Thanks, Hi to Brian!

Braian is married to a Thai what do local do for medical
I'm sorry I am not sure on that one. But I am guessing the expat husband would take care of them. Or they would go to one of the Thai hospitals. 🤔
I know it you marry a Thai woman with a govt job you be covered on her insurance
Medical treatment is free for all Thais under the 30 baht scheme.
This doesn't make any sense. I bet that Brian has spent more on health insurance since he moved to Thailand than he would have spent paying for healthcare himself. That's how insurance companies make their profits. They're not charities. If Brian had put aside the £1500 per year he's paying for insurance, he could easily have covered the cost of his recent fall.
Yes, but what about other accidents he may have? What if he is knocked of his cycle and is in a coma?
@@fromoneendofthailand that's a very negative way of thinking that plays on people's fears. I went for a swim earlier this morning at one of phuket's beaches. I might have been stung by a jellyfish or bitten by a shark and died within 10 minutes, and I could have insured against that very slight risk by not doing it. But I didn't.
Not sure if this is serious or not. Do have a nice day and watch for jellyfish... and sharks.
🍀Thank You 🏝
You're welcome. 👍
