....didn’t read all 486 comments so forgive me if someone answered already but ‘honey wagon’ is a term we used in the airline business for the truck that pulled up to the lav hook up to dump the toilets. The name, we think, comes from the sweet juice that is the color of honey the pours out when you release the Kracken (dump valve). If you’ve EVER hooked up wrong and pulled the plug, all the ‘stuff’ that dumps out on the ramp is, indeed, honey colored but there is nothing sweet about it...... great videos btw...we have learned a bunch! Thanks for your work! Stay safe!
Dude I've watched several different youtubers talking about that, but this video was by far the most informative of them all, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You guy's are the BOMB!! Thank you so much for all the information. We love the white board because it's shows us the action of the process, instead of just telling us and leaving the process to are own imagination. Which is scary! LOL! Show & Tell!! Show us & then tell us. Perfecto guys! My husband is now sitting here giving me the "I told you so poke". LOL! Be safe out there, thanks again for all your video's, they are much appreciated! :-)
Well this explains the sudsy water in our black tank from the rear bathroom the first time we drained it. We thought something was routed wrong! We recently took delivery of our 397th (white pearl paint) and we knew a ton already from watching your videos. We cannot thank you enough! We look forward to more! Now we just have to get our shower door to stop leaking. 😒
This video is so thorough and detailed, even the least experienced novus will benefit from what is offered here... from individual waste tank management to linear specific procedures for dumping tanks this video addresses every step of the way, no matter what your specific setup is. Your style of presentation and inclusion of possible problems the average 'Joe" wouldn't think of are so much appreciated. Thanks...
I have seen many videos, not to mention almost all of their videos, I am a beginner in RV life, I bought a 2019 Heartland Cyclone 4005, to go on trips not to live completely in it, this I did for having a safe, comfortable and different place to find a hotel to stay and thus encourage the adventurous spirit, the fact is that their videos have helped me a lot, videos well explained, easy to understand, deadly language, not tax ... thank you Chad & Tara for such good videos I've subscribed to enjoy all the tips that can contribute in this case to me that I am not a professional ....Un enorme abrazo amigos y que Disfruten al maximosus viajes .
Great information! I made my friends watch this. They didn't even know they had a second gray tank the RV dealer didn't show them and the smell in their fifth wheel was so bad they thought it was the black tank. They follow you now, thanks for all the information you have given us. It's made camping more enjoyable.
We've watched this video twice already and will watch it again right before we need it. We finally got our Truck. We are leaving PA in two weeks and heading south. I'm ordering another bunch of stuff from your Amazon store today. Keep putting out learning videos.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this in previous comments but on a occasion Ill put a couple of 20 pound bags of ice down the toilet along with some water and drive around the campground before I go to the dump station. The ice sloshing around inside the tank gets all those bits and pieces loose and clears your sensors. Just a little tip from me to you. Great video as always!
In a previous life, i was a technical scuba diver. So I carry 3 5 lb soft scuba weights and a weight belt to us when I use the donut. The belt is adjustable and doesn't fall off.
I was active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1986-1992. I worked as an AT2 (Aviation Electronics Tech) on E2-C Hawkeyes (big frisbee on top) in VAW-120, then VAW-124. In VAW-124, we deployed on the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt for Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
I am sure someone else pointed this out. When you open the stinkey container with all the sewer hook ups... remove the top completely. After you put on your sewer gloves, that were partially stored in the container, you keep opening up and touching the container... yep you had your contaminated gloves all over the outside of the container. Store some Clorox wipes in the area helps with a tiny trash bag for the wipes you use. Sanitize after you put away the hose supports. Take care, enjoy freedom.
I think that anyone going full time rving should probably specify having macerator toilets installed. These eliminate a myriad of problems with dumping, especially the large dump hose, all you need is a garden hose. I do enjoy your channel, especially your truthfulness about the problems you've encountered. Keep up the good work.
I liked the emphasis on keeping the process sanitary. I’m sure when dealing with a chronic illness, you want to be mindful of cross contamination and even tho Tara isn’t doing the outdoor emptying of tanks, Chad does have to be aware of everything he is touching, inside and out of the rig. Well done folks!
Thank you so much! Your videos are so informative and entertaining! I learn so much from you both. Hubby and I are newbies and we need all the help we can get 😂 Personally I think this particular topic is the most intimidating, and I appreciate that you take the time to make these longer videos and provide in depth details. Thanks again, hope to see you on the road 😁
Thank you Chad and Tara!! We really loved your lightheartedness and humor! Super helpful tips too. The poop stuff scared the S. out of us at first! But now, we're "Happy Campers!" Thank you for sharing your experiences. We just bought a trailer in Oct and you've helped us a ton. Cheers! Thank you!
Hey there! I have been gobbling up your informative videos! I purchased a 21 Ft lil guy teardrop camper in November but it’s winterized here in Pa BUT I’ve never camped so I’m learning through your videos! Thanks soooo much!! FYI I was placing items you suggested on your Amazon affiliate links in my Amazon shopping cart over the past few weeks of watching videos and yesterday I finally hit the purchase button on my 80 plus items!!! Hahaha! I hope you two get some kickback on the awesome items you suggest! I even ordered a rocking chair that you 2 shared at the end of your one video! Hey keep rockin and thanks a million!!
Changing Lanes Great to hear from ya’s! That’s good to hear that ya’s still have the rocker chairs! That means they hold up pretty good considering this video was from like a year ago 👍😊😆 my rocker will be coming in the mail soon... I think I am going to have to put my 14 year old pug down today because of her lung cancer and my heart is beyond heavy... the only thing keeping me moving forward is hope that I can winterize my farmhouse here in Pa and take off with my Jeep Mojave with my lil guy camper in tow and head south and let the sun heal my broken heart....
I want to thank you for your videos I looking to go full time by the end of the year in a Tiffin Open Rd.34pa and I use your videos as a wealth of information on how to go full time rv I am going to use your knowledge so I don’t make newbie mistakes keep the videos coming I enjoy them

Retirement coming in a few years and I’ve decided you’re teaching me the ropes. Thank you so much for being so thorough and informative! It would be interesting to see some night time set up outdoor lighting and outdoor to inside windows, rather what people can see you you from other sites at night. Thank you and be safe.
Just like house windows, you can see in at night when the interior lights are on. But, the shades block that. We have lighting underneath our RV, on the sides, and in the awnings. So, we don't have to put up any other lights. 👍🏼 :Thanks for watching! 😊
Holy 💩 Aquaman ! Thanks for all the time and work that you guys put into a very long and comprehensive video. Lots of good info. Hope you been feeling a little better Tara. Best wishes and thoughts. Thanks.
Late last year my wife Andrea and I bought our first camper and found it was just a little bit more complicated than your RV. We have three grey tanks, 1 back and a fresh water tank. I have 3 poop holes I have to plump to the sewer. 🤦♂️. Thanks for making your videos, we love them, and hope you guys do well and stay healthy through this crazy time!
I just bought a Camper and is definitely helping us watching your videos, very informative I did not know what to get or where to start and now I have better idea, thanks for the information.
Thank you for making an honest hookup video! I'm trying to learn about RV'ing and these are things I need to know! Hey, 💩 happens and we need to know how to deal with it!
Great video as always. Few things. Don't forget to relieve the water pressure from the system before changing the valve orientation on the nautilus system. You have mentioned it in other video before. Also, to each their own but this is how I do my black tank and it works great. Get your tank flush line hooked up (FYI there is a back flow preventer inline so cannot contaminate the drinking water) and turn on just before opening the main drain valve for the black tank. Let the tank flush run the whole time the tank is emptying. Watch as the water slows down and you'll see clean water just from the flush line. Close the main drain valve. IF YOU TRUST YOUR TANK LEVEL GAUGES, I let the tank flush fill the black tank just till it says full. It takes a lot of attention to do this, but I do it as I am sweeping off the outdoor rugs and taking in the awnings, so I'm close to the gauge. I have even before watched and waited with the water off to the toilet until I could see the water in the tank start coming up to the toilet= tank full. That takes a lot of time, so I don't always do that. You get a good feel as to how long it takes to fill the tank. I do that three or four times until when I dump the tank I don't see any "bits" coming out. Then add the tank treatment and drain the grey's as you said. Again, great video, just a tip! Enjoy!
As always, guys great video. Enjoyed watching you struggle to find more pleasant ways to discuss this subject. Your videos are so informative and what I love the most is you explain things so perfectly. I never have to go back and re-watch to try and understand what you are saying I get it the first time. And once again I have loaded up my amazon cart. Thank you both for all your tips!
Great information for newbies because we asking us a lot how it works if you are camping with this po** 🤭 Great explained 👍👍👍 You both are very sympathically and very authentically 👍👍👍
Nice job. I never had so many tanks on my TT's that I needed so many parts. Agree I to bleed the air out of my fresh water hose before connecting to my TT city water connection. I also will turn off the water to my TT any time we leave it. I even go back inside and bleed the water pressure off thru a sink faucet or the toilet. I had a toilet water valve crack and then develop a leak all of a sudden. Luckily we were there so I could shut off the water before too much water flowed!!!
Great video. I have an update regarding the Black Tank Flush (BTF) system. I bought a new 303RLS and attempted to use the BTF for the first time and found that even though I turned the water on "full bore", I was only getting a trickle of water out from the open Black Tank valve opening (even with the Black Tank value wide open). I took it to the dealer to see what was blocking the flow and they tried unsuccessfully to unblock. They called Grand Design customer service to troubleshoot and was informed that it was normal for only a trickle of water to escape from the valve exit pipe. Apparently, there is an internal spray valve, in the BTF system, that reduces the water flow, but creates a "pressurized" spray to help dislodge "poop" pieces in the tank. Thought this might be helpful to your viewers, and readers, to understand that low water volume exiting the tank is a normal condition when using the BTF system. Happy camping everyone!
Hey all we’re newbies and we decided to purchase the WASTE MASTER sewer hose from waste master in Hollister Ca. It’s gonna be the last sewer hose you’ll ever buy. I recommend this to anyone with an rv. The hose is constantly hooked up to your rig. If you’re interested let the know that Capn Hooks recommended you. I personally like it because of my disability, I wear 2 prosthetic hooks. Hence the nickname. Happy travels
Great information! Only thing I'd mention about dumping used dish water into your black tank, is to be sure your not dumping anything with antibacterial soap. You don't want to kill the bacteria in your black tank.
A sugestion. I fill a one gallon zip lock back with sand or small stones. Put it inside another one gallon zip lock and use this to hold the waste hose in the sewer connection. Works great. Of course rocks to too.
To get the sensors working, use the happy camper sensor cleaning between campgrounds when the sensors start acting up. We use RV Digest-it in the grey and black tanks and our sensors have stayed clean for the last two years.
I don't even RV (part or full time) yet, I just like your vids! You guys are awesome. Chad and I would get along very well. I too like to know how everything works, and why it does what it does.
Early memory for me. I was 8 years old (I'm 53 now) and got one of those alarm clocks where the numbers were on little tiles and they flipped down. Within an hour of getting it I was so mesmerized by the flipped action that I took it apart. Unfortunately they were spring loaded and all four 'rolls' of numbers spewed across my room like a deck of cards. Tried for days to fix it. But alas, I had an alarm clock for 10 years where the bottom half might be an 8, and the upper half a 7. But it was fun!
Great video. Learned something when we first purchased our 5th wheel and spent a week at Fiddlers Cove Navy Campground on Coronado Island in San Diego. It's a stinky job but I have to say it. It's called "Doming" . It happens when you are camped for several days with the black tank value opened. Liquid drains out, solid stays in. What we, I do, is keep the black value closed and then drain it every couple of days. Never had a clog again. Keep up the great work. JJK USAF Retired
Good run through Chad and Tara! Bought the same rig you guys have (except with blue instead of burgundy paint job) because of watching your videos, the 397TH was exactly the floor plan I liked the most from Grand Design and now I can see exactly what I'll be dealing with in this video! Also bought several items through your affiliate link. Can't wait for more of your future how-to videos.
Great video Chad and Tara. We are new semi full time rv’ers hitting the road in our new rig very soon. Very helpful info - especially water consumption for showers and washing machine. We love your channel and are so grateful for all we have learned from you. Hope to meet you both and miss daisy sometime on the road. 😄👍
Thanks for another great video, and don't worry about offense---I know I'm not alone in wanting to know how all the plumbing issues work. One idea I saw in another video that I don't see mentioned here involves the order of flushing. The idea is to, once all the flush lines are connected, open the *gray* valve first. This is only for a short time, to ensure that all connections are, in fact, connected. If you've made a mistake, you just dumped some gray water out. Then, once you've seen the flow and know all is good, close gray, open black, leaving nearly all the gray water to flush the line after the black tank is empty. This idea made sense to me, but I don't really know if there are any problems with it. Also, I agree with others about using disposable gloves. Once you've touched something with the gloves that may be contaminated, the gloves have to be considered potentially contaminated, and the same with anything you touch with them. Even being careful about the order of steps, that seems like a potential problem. Or maybe I'm just too fastidious. I like the idea of using the hand sanitizer, even after having done things with gloves on.
Yes! Good point! Definitely better to test the connections with grey water for sure! I'd forgotten about that tip. Luckily we've been fortunate in the hose connection department. 😳
@@ChangingLanes I don't even remember who it was, not a channel I regularly watch I don't think, but that stuck with me. I'm glad to hear it confirmed. I can just imagine that one time, not getting the connection quite right...
Good information....a lot of information that is valuable for individuals who maybe considering the RV lifestyle. Still not comfortable with the "poop" part but would definitely watch this video a second time to really get the process down. Thanks!
You guys rock. All great info. Changing Lanes, and You Me and the RV. Our two favorite TH-cam rvers! Inspired us to start our own channel too! We aren’t full time but learning so we can eventually be! Thanks for the tips!!!
This was an awesome video. You guys are doing a fantastic job with your videos. Glad I found you. We have a FUZION 427 FBP. Pretty much the same set up. God Bless you guys. Be safe.
Very well done (ha). I love your reaction to the outside interferences. Makes you want to boondock. You reminded me to get the spare Vatera valve so I can add it to my list. Thanks!
Tara, I have long hair too. What I do is use a bucket in the shower with me...put the shower head in the bucket until the water is warm, do your Navy shower but use the bucket of water to rinse the shampoo outta your hair. We use Happy Camper in our Airstream, too. One of the other RVers suggested putting it into your grey tank (especially your kitchen tank) to aid in there too, have you heard that? (Our kitchen and shower drain into our grey, our toilet and sink in the bathroom - into the black).
Good video. You may consider leaving both valves closed until the tanks are full. Otherwise your black tank drains the liquid and keeps the solids, creating a lot of issues down the road. Also, allowing your gray to fill allows you to "flush" you hoses after you drain the black. I usually leave closed and dump the tanks every few days.
Black tank valves should definitely always stay close.. we cover that in the video.. The front grey tank (laundry / shower / sink water) is the only one that we leave open.
You guys are the only informational video in this length that we watch to the end 🤩 have you ever thought of disposalble gloves ( highly recommend :). We are also GD owners ❣️
I use disposables for working on things around the RV... I guess I could use them here too. Will likely do that once these break. 😊 Thanks for watching! 😃
Fantastic. I love how ya dance around a crappy subject. you guys do have a different system. That garage bathroom would have driven me nuts to figure it out, well-done. Tara the faces you make when Chad would say something graphic had me on the floor laughing lol. good info presented in a great way. Thanks, Guys!
very informative, thanks!! one tip that i would like to add though. when using the toilet, we always add some water to the bowl before using it. i know, a little indelicate maybe, but hey we're all human and we all use toilets and hate cleaning them! the shape of rv toilets is different than house ones as you mentioned and poop sticks to them more than house toilets and they dont rinse as well. having the bowl 1/2 full of water really helps our grey tank fills much quicker during dry camping like everybody else, its too bad shower water doesnt go into the black tank(maybe!) we learned about the "poop pyramid" the hard way, not our fault but that of the previous owner. it was huge! i had to stick a garden hose down the toilet with full pressure for quite a while! great tip on leaving 2-3 toilet bowl amounts of water in the black tank while driving, a change we will be making for sure
Great info. I feel i can pass the poop master degree class. Was just looking at that control system and then the 6 in one system. I was wondering how in the world that thing looked back there and bang. There you go showing the back. Now thats some connections. Beats having to get to valves by pump. Great video. And as always. Thanks for your service👍👍👍
Great vid. My Crossroad cruiser fifth wheel has a grey water and black water valves were under the coach. You had to get on your back to open them. However the pipes we accessible easily so I put a valve on them and open both black and grey and use the voltara valve to do both. .
That was one thing about RVs that surprised us... Every single one is completely different in just about every way. LOL Thanks for watching, Jim! Hope you check out the rest of our channel! 😊
I love you two! I hope we run into you at some point during our mutual journeys! Great info as always. My wife has lupus and CRPS and would love to meet you both as well. Hope to see you on the road!
Ref your comment about balancing your gray tanks and not opening the black. I have a MH with only one tank of each type. It is actually recommended to drain you black first completely. Then, with you black still open but main valve closed , open your gray for a couple mins. This allows soapy water into your black aiding in the cleaning process. Then close the gray open the black and main valve. Do this several times until gray is MT.
I know this video is a few years old now but do you still use the Rhino Extreme sewer hose? We have two sewer ports too so we had four 10' sections of the RhinoFlex and one just failed after our first Snowbird season. We had them for 8 years of mostly weekend warrior camping and on our last dump before heading home we had the failure. The hoses were just too old to make it through a Florida sun drenched winter. Would you recommend the Extreme version or the RhinoFlex version ? When connecting two hoses together, do you ever have any leaking where the bayonet fittings go together? Ours were the old style where you used a swivel coupler to connect two hoses and we never had any leaking issues so we want to keep it that way lol. We also have four storage tubes under our Reflection so being super compact isn't a huge concern but some compaction would be needed. Thanks in advance and keep up the great videos. I've been a subscriber for a few years now!

Enjoy!
Very timely video. I just purchased a new Grand Design Reflection 320MKS that I pick up Friday. It will have two hoses. Thanks!
Glad to help! 👍🏼 😊
You two ROCK and have quickly become my fave RV YT channel! Really informative segment.
Thanks, Justin! 😊
Great video thank you for the information I’ve got a 2020 Laredo fifth wheel I really appreciate the help Safe travels
You guys did a great job on explaining on how to dump your tanks very helpful thank you
As always, guys great video.
:Thanks for using our links! 😊
Great information for newbies because we asking us a lot how it works if you are camping with this po** 🤭
Great explained 👍👍👍
You both are very sympathically and very authentically 👍👍👍
Another informative video and more things to consider. Every video extends the list of stuff I have to buy. Hilarious outakes.
Always enjoy your videos, there real. Love the outtakes they show your just RVers who like to have fun.
Thanks, Roger! 😊 Just 2 dorks with cameras! LOL
"You'll wanna use some gloves. I don't think I havta tell you that" cracking me up, Tara!
LOL! We see soooo many people handling the stinky slinky with no gloves....
so much knowledge! you two make great informational videos! i feel like i'm acing this RV101 course!
Good point! 👍🏼 But when we boondock, that rear tank is dedicated to grey water.
That was funny as! Way to make an unmentionable topic, light hearted and fun!
You guys are a joy to watch-very informative too. We are getting ready to retire and are going to full time RV. Thanks again
Ronnie
Good luck with your new adventures and thanks for watching! Hope you check out the rest of our channel! 😊
You both present the best videos.
Keep it coming you guys are very informative I like your presentation look forward to many more videos best out there on TH-cam
Thanks, Ian! 😊
Much appreciated. Ive got a deal cooking on a used Solitude 379fls, should be mine next week. Im about to be a full timer myself!
Congrats! Hope the deal cooks up the way you want it! 😊
A sugestion. I fill a one gallon zip lock back with sand or small stones. Put it inside another one gallon zip lock and use this to hold the waste hose in the sewer connection. Works great. Of course rocks to too.
That's a great idea! 👍🏽
Wow all your videos are so informative. I’m trying to learn everything I can before we start looking for a full time 5th wheel to live in
To get the sensors working, use the happy camper sensor cleaning between campgrounds when the sensors start acting up. We use RV Digest-it in the grey and black tanks and our sensors have stayed clean for the last two years.
Haven't tried the happy camper sensor cleaning product. Will check that out. 👍🏼
Thanks for the scoop on the poop!!
I don't even RV (part or full time) yet, I just like your vids! You guys are awesome. Chad and I would get along very well. I too like to know how everything works, and why it does what it does.
I always had to take stuff apart as a kid and put it back together so I could see how it worked. LOL Thanks for watching, Jeff! 😊
LOL!
Yep! that's the Poo Pyramid we were talking about. Never leave the black tank open... 💩
Excellent choice in RVs! 😉 Congrats! 😊
Very Informative we all need to know how to handle the POOP!!!
A lot of great tips. Thanks Chad & Tara
Thanks! 💙
Thanks for the great informative videos guys. Love the outtakes at the end. Very funny love it keep up the good work.
You two never disappoint. You add a new meaning to the term "talking shit", 45 minutes no less. Lol. Great stuff as always.
Perfectly executed! Thanks for the great info! ⭐️👍🏻
Thanks for watching! Hope you check out the rest of our channel! 😊
Thanks!
RV Life certainly comes with a LOT to learn, for sure! Thanks for watching, Mary! 😃
CHAD & TARA, Thanks so much for the info. Awesome video.
Be safe.
Welcome to our channel! 😊
Very well done (ha). I love your reaction to the outside interferences. Makes you want to boondock. You reminded me to get the spare Vatera valve so I can add it to my list. Thanks!
Wife said great explanation video thanks
Tara, I have long hair too. What I do is use a bucket in the shower with me...put the shower head in the bucket until the water is warm, do your Navy shower but use the bucket of water to rinse the shampoo outta your hair.
We use Happy Camper in our Airstream, too. One of the other RVers suggested putting it into your grey tank (especially your kitchen tank) to aid in there too, have you heard that? (Our kitchen and shower drain into our grey, our toilet and sink in the bathroom - into the black).
Thanks for the tip! We've tried happy camper in the grey tanks. Didn't really clean the sensors or anything.
Changing Lanes Good to know. I think they used it in the grey to aid in the smells, maybe break stuff down a little, I’m not sure.
Thanks for watching! 😃
very informative, thanks!!
one tip that i would like to add though.
when using the toilet, we always add some water to the bowl before using it. i know, a little indelicate maybe, but hey we're all human and we all use toilets and hate cleaning them! the shape of rv toilets is different than house ones as you mentioned and poop sticks to them more than house toilets and they dont rinse as well. having the bowl 1/2 full of water really helps
our grey tank fills much quicker during dry camping like everybody else, its too bad shower water doesnt go into the black tank(maybe!)
we learned about the "poop pyramid" the hard way, not our fault but that of the previous owner. it was huge! i had to stick a garden hose down the toilet with full pressure for quite a while!
great tip on leaving 2-3 toilet bowl amounts of water in the black tank while driving, a change we will be making for sure
binge watching your vids today. I really like the valve on the hose and idea!
I love the video is you guys are so Thorough with your info
Great video! A ton of super helpful info! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Dean! 💙
Thanks so much for all of this info and tips¹
That was a great video. Good info and even though I now about black tanks I watched he entire video.
Great video thanks for putting it out..
Educational and entertaining. I effing love you guys. Keep 'em coming.
Another great video guys....I'm now going to look for a white board so I can make the big truck video 😂
Can't wait to see it! 👍🏽
Happy Camper is the best !!!
Changing Lanes I subscribed. Will look at all others. Thanks guys. Be Blessed.
A wealth of Information, another great video. thanks Guys
Excellent tutorial, thanks for sharing.....
Thank you for your service chad
Thank you for your support! 🇺🇸
Great video! Y'all really know your 💩! 🤣😂 Will be watching this video again when we go full time. Thanks for adding all the time stamps too!
this was very informative!! nice job!! thank you!
Thanks for watching, Kristin! Hope you check out the rest of our channel! 😊
I get the feeling you you actually had to remember to use the word poop instead of what you were actually thinking. Good video!
Excellent video with a great deal of info. Thanks
Safe travels and good health.
Great info guys! I think you are the cutest couple!
💙😊 Thanks for watching! 😃
