The problem is "marginalized" peoples tales aren't being told. These privileged activists just claim they're telling the story of the marginalized. In reality, those identities are being co-opted/appropriated and then shoehorned into a very specific ideology, which is then shoehorned further into a popular IP that the privileged activists think needs subverting, and whose fans they believe need to be lectured.
Also they dont understand that people in media are not a good representation of the populations views. There are certain types of people that are attracted to that type of work.

Good point. These activists are simply using the mask of compassion and social justice to hide their narcissism and push their beliefs. They don’t care about minorities and people of color. Look how they act against them when they have different opinions.
No, the problem is they aren't marginalized. There aren't a bunch of people secretly talking about how to keep these people down and out. They are being openly elevated above the actually marginalized.
I know because I've been on the receiving end of it. People engaging in the very acts they say they are against.

I know we're all here mostly because we are nerds and want to defend what we love. But I wanted to add to what RMB said about cultural destruction of the West because I am not only a nerd, but I used to be Woke activist about 10 years ago because it is so on-point.
I got deeply into socialism/Marxist/post-modern stuff because I am in a marginalized group and thought the activism at the time was the way to protect others. It only took a few years for me to realize what was going on. They wanted to either co-opt or pull down and subvert anything Western and it is PART of the doctrine. It's in the politics (always picking the side in geopolitical conflicts that is AGAINST the West), and dismantling any kinds of structures created from Western ideals (and this could even include science and medicine).
Of course, they would come after the art, vandalizing and taking over IPs for pop culture, and also "prescribing" what is "appropriate" in art forms as per Soviet models. It's also in all that rewriting of history like Netflix's Cleopatra. It's infiltrated older forms of the fine arts where the actual skillsets are not being taught because "old wh*te dudes did it."
I broke with them for many reasons, but this is no longer a "tin foil" conspiracy thing. It's the perfect storm of anti-Western marginalized voices that were amplified (incorrectly) when we started using algorithms in marketing. Selection bias. The marginalized groups were online more and were louder. Corporate greed and DEI allowed for these ideas to enter more.
I would argue that the originators of this nonsense are no longer in control of the narrative. It got picked up by the virtue-signallers in power as luxury beliefs to indicate wealth and status, and Hollywood jumped on that idea like Jaws smelling chum in the water. It's about the money and like what happened in Scientology after 2-3 generations. People are now beginning to believe is as reality instead of use it as propaganda alone.
I highly recommend listening to Douglas Murray's older stuff about the dismantling of the West. He nailed it years ago. Sorry for the tl;dr here, I know it's more political than normal for Film Threat.

I HATE Disney Star Wars (aside from Rogue One). I haven't seen ANY Disney Star Wars since The Last Jedi. I knew then it was DEAD.
Disney, Kennedy, Ruin Johnson & now Headley & Filoni aren't making Star Wars because they love it. They are all narcissistic activists ... NOT fans. I gave up years ago. Now it's time everyone else does.

I watched the original trilogy and the prequels countless times. I watched part 1 and 2 of the disney trilogy only once and almost left the theater because I was bored. I never bothered to watch part 3 of this garbage.

@@Kaesemesser0815 - I hear you. I had midnight screening tickets for Attack of the Clones. It was so bad, I walked out. Several of the people who were in line with me for TPM were shocked. It took me 3 additional times to actually see the entire movie.
I actually enjoyed Revenge of the Sith. It was a decent ending ... up to the "Noooooooo!" which kinda ruined it for me.
Rogue One was amazing. I cried at the end as I saw it 2 weeks after Carrie Fisher died. She was super sweet when I met her, but you could tell her drug & alcohol use did major damage. 💔
We have to show Disney that just because they bought Star Wars they don't own it to make whatever they want with it, stop buying their merchandise. That's how you hurt that monster.

No one had prior investment in the Acolyte. I think thats the reason it’s taken this long for this backlash. Some people still had hope going into Mando season 3. Obi Wan had fans going in, same as Boba Fett & Ahsoka. EVERYONE can see the Acolyte for what it is.
Bo-Tox-Karen hammered into Din´s rightful place in the rewritten S3 (and I know it was rewritten) was my breaking point.
The false advertising for it also proves they know what the fans want but they deliberately do the opposite.
Filoni acts like he created the Nightsisters which still pisses me off, especially now that the original creator is dead.

There is a whole range of morality conflicts that make good stories, except Foucault, when morality is just the power constructs between groups, you can’t have heroes or villains, those are individuals. The good news is that Foucault morality on screen must self destruct as the most baseless moral relativism.

I’m very amused at the cope of those few who keep repeating like a broken record that the audience reviews are the result of review bombing. Then again this is a project that the majority of fans never asked for in the first place (high republic who?), and didn’t end up liking as soon as 3 episodes in. Andor picked up (to compare a show that “no one asked for” but ended up one of the best ones out there). This one just kept dropping. I wonder what tonight’s episode would bring? Probably even more unity against it.
They would have to de-canonize all of Disnsey Star Wars as they tried to de-canonize the Expanded Universe books.
Then start again with a sequel to Return of the Jedi using Heir to the Empire and the Thrawn series with a recast of Luke, Han, and Leia.
That is what it would take to win back the fandom.

Totally agree with Angry Badger..The EU is filled with so many amazing characters and stories. I'll continue to dwell in the EU and just laugh at whatever these Disney clowns come up with.

Disney doesn't understand Star Wars; to them, it's just another asset to monetize, milk and shut down when there is nothing left to squeeze out of it. Every long term IP refreshes and reinvents itself. Sometimes it works (Batman, Spiderman, James Bond) sometimes it kind of works (Superman) and sometimes, when they forget the core of the character, it's just an abomination with the same label (Disney Star Wars, Disney Dr. Who, Disney Marvel after Endgame). Star Wars can be saved...shelve it for a while until the pain fades and better people come along. I mean, we survived Schumacher Batnipples and eventually got Nolan Batman, so anything is possible.

Great analysis, everything said regarding story telling promoting a positive, unifying familial solidarity, both socially and politically within human culture and it's importance to it is 100% correct and is the very reason why it has been taken away from especially the western audience. Not just 'Star Wars', but all Western Movie/TV Studios franchises and I.P.'s, in addition to professional sports and other cultural past-times, anything that is beloved by the Western culture, supports and nurtures it, is not acceptable in today's 'diverse' society. Changes to story lore and cannon are totally politically motived and instigated, directed by politicians, media and activists with Marxist intent to divide and conquer Western society internally.

Remember that George Lucas was involved in approving each EU material in detail. Not someone in Lucasfilm, the one GL. Disney just hiring people to write books and comics with a different intention and not necessarily appointed to writers that know the SW lore knowledge. Kennedy doesn’t care for the lore.

I remember back in 2013/2014 when they canceled The Clone Wars animation and dumped the EU into the trash can. At the time it wasn't clear what was going on, but now we know KK was hard at work, even back then, to destroy the fandom.
Then back in 2019 you have KK wearing that "The Force is Female" shirt. I don't think that necessarily was related to the Disney SW trilogy. I think it might have been hinting towards The Acolyte. If that's true, it means KK was planning for The Acolyte for at least 5 years, possibly longer. It almost seems like this was supposed to be her masterpiece, which of course turned out to be a pos instead.

Yeah, doing rise and fall of Revan and ending the story at the opening sequence of KOTOR would have been an easy slam dunk. His rise, the Mandalorian war, his fall, the Jedi Civil war, and then his capture and severing. Easy W and the story is already essentially done.

What if they're calling the character "MAY" so they can drop the line in the end MAY, the force is with you" this would permanently destroy Star Wars, saying the origin of May the force be with you is because of May. Disney leaving the EU alone may be a good thing. It leaves the door open for a new and better creative team to relaunch Star Wars (with a new young cast) starting with Heir to the Empire (maybe after a 3-5 year break) and go from there.
Decanonize all of Disney Star Wars
The fanbase is more united now than ever before as a result of this trash. But simply not watching the star wars you don't like is not enough sadly. In order for Disney to even begin to 'care,' people need to stop giving Disney money. That means cancelling subscriptions to Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, National Geographic, A&E, and no longer buying physical products/collectibles or 20th Century Fox movies, Marvel, Pixar, etc. The more bloated corporations get, the more difficult it is to affect their bottom-line.
SW books of early and mid '90's are truly cannon...this crap is just a bad nightmare.
I'm old enough to remember the releases of the original three movies....as you say, this is us saying enough is enough!
It's time to send the guilty parties to the gallows, to be perfectly blunt!

Some of you can compartmentalize, and that's great. I cannot. Once the world or a character breaks, it remains broken, for me.
If, for example, in five years they do come out with a good story. I'll watch it, and maybe enjoy it. I LIKE cool space movies.
But I'll never get lost in the universe again. The best analogy I've come up with is new car vs used (new to you) car. The purchase of one has a fresh and free, unfettered feeling of delight, whereas the purchase of the used car might feel good, it doesn't feel as free. You're aware of the problems and limitations and the potential that the shoe might drop.
Star wars is a used car and will always remain that way, no matter what work they do to it, I'll never feel that same delight I did before they broke it

What would be good, is all these review groups set up a show of force to Disney, and have all the fans unite with a we dont like the direction by having a massive watch party of the OG Star Wars movie on a set day, to show just how many unique subscribers dislike the current direction.
If you have an Executive Producer, Producer, Director and Writer who is the same person then who is going to tell that person during production .. it actually sucks? Nobody....

Thinking about what I just wrote a bit more, if it's true, it makes things a bit more clear as to what happened. For the longest time the fandom thought things could turn around. That was clearly never the case from the beginning. Iger gave KK the keys to Lucas Film and went off to play god over the rest of Disney.
KK seemingly got a blank check and an indefinite amount of time to do whatever she wanted. At no point did she actually try to assess what Star Wars was, who its fans were, or what the fans wanted. Instead... as a poor analogy, it was like she melted down the Statue of Liberty and fashioned it into a giant dildo.
And Disney was okay with it. Why? Because Disney's turned into a girl brand. Eisner wasn't perfect, but he presided over the Disney Renaissance giving us timeless films such as The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.
Back then, Disney Animation was fine putting a man in a lead or prominent, masculine role and depicting women as feminine. Contrast those films to Wish, Strange World, and Frozen that push the boss girl and beta guy character types.
It’s not gonna matter if they fire the entire staff. There’s no coming back from this.
Though, I agree with Angry Badger. Disney’s Star Wars is “Star Wars In Name Only”.
People were fans of Filoni during his Anakin phase, now he is Vader to Kennedy’s Palpatine. Some still have hope, but excuses should not be made for him when he is directly involved in the development of things that end up duds.

At one time I heard that a Japanese company wanted to buy Star Wars I think. It would be best I think to see it sold to another country.
Star Wars didn't have a blueprint, or "could have just used the EU" as they are known for not wanting to have to pay for the rights for that material.
I have to hand it to RMB for dropping some profound thoughts that will leave us ruminating over them long after the end of the stream. Had The Acolyte lived up to its 4 years of hype, I'd have accepted it as an incredible Star Wars show, regardless of who wrote it or the sexuality of the characters who appeared in it. Clone Wars from Filoni already contradicted all that was established from said Clone Wars before he was involved in Star Wars.

The cat that was breaking down the idea of "deconstructing legacy franchises" was dropping science. It's an issue that is spread much wider than just Star Wars. I would word it more as deconstructing culture. It's cultural vandalism and history revisionism.
A parallel example would be what Crystal Dynamics is now doing with its Tomb Raider game. You can look this up, but essentially, they're rebooting (retconning) the story and premise of Tomb Raider because they feel it supported "colonialist ideals" in that it depicted Westerners raiding foreign tombs and snatching religious and historical artifacts, procuring them for display in Western museums. It's a very twisted, guilty way to view a beloved pop culture legacy franchise, and to destroy it in this way is simply vandalism.
A new story, a woke franchise, could be erected to counter the supposed wrongs of Tomb Raider, but no, they would never abandon the lucrative brand name --- they don't feel THAT strongly for the supposed wrongs the former Tomb Raider depicted.
This hyper politicizing of pop media has gone too far, and misguided colonizer guilt is what's to blame.
It's the entire Lucasfilm brand, every IP has been ruined

One of the panel were talking about SW games, i've played ttrpgs since i was 10 (3 years less than I used to be a SW fan), older SW rpgs had been rising in price for the out of print examples and where worth qite a bit of money. Since Disney got hold of SW the price of some of these 2nd games has tumbled, from over $100 to less than $10 in some cases because people who used to be fans are abandaning everything SW, no one wants to have anything to do with it. Rip SW.

Real person and Star Wars fan here, no political agenda. Not going to talk up Disney, which I think has def been going down a bad path for awhile, and maybe it’s partly because of low expectations set by Obi Wan and Asoka, but so far… I like it. Setting everything in a different timeline means all new characters and jedi, and the mystery aspect of the show is cool too. IMO, best new Star Wars show since the first two seasons of The Mandalorian.

I watch old episodes of Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, Star Trek and Hitchcock Presents hour and half hour as well as Next Gen and Kolchak. And im about to rewatch the 80s TZ and the 90s OL. Cant find Nigt Gallery and Tales from the Darkside though. Old stuff that ive seen a million times? Sure. But what choice do we have quality wise?❤❤❤😮😮😮
With the rate that AI is going, you just need 1 person with a passionate approach to the genre and knows what prompt to give so that AI can spew out a movie, or even series that the fans will enjoy.

I believe that these disney/woke iterations of existing franchises will be happily ignored in a few years while real sequels with the correct tone and storytelling will be released.
