It was particularly offensive because Ki-Adi-Mundi was famous for saying that line in Phantom Menace. The Jedi Council were nearly wanting to raise their glasses and go "amen to that!"

That just adds credence to my theory that the real master is actually Mother Abeloth. I think both Qimir and the witch coven are connected to her. Smilo Ren literally has the same smile as Abeloth. Abeloth is also not a Sith Lord, but she is actually much more dangerous than most Sith Lords, because she was able to mind control Jedi knights. Abeloth's original family is also known as "The Ones".

I took it that the Sith Lord knew but thought he'd try anyway. He seemed to be trying to kill his previous padawan and intentionally moved the other out of the way at the start of the fight.
My initial thoughts since the first Acolyte trailer was that the premise should have been a secret Sith or Dark Side user hiding among the Jedi in plain sight. Killing them off one by one and made into a mystery show.
I liked when Jeremy said, " It feels like he pulled the name "Sith" out of his ass". Like he's pretending to be a Sith. It actually reminded me of Genndy Tartakovsky's 2003 Clone Wars micro-series, when Ventress claimed to be a sith and Dooku laughed and said, "A bold claim, but you are NOT Sith!"

@@SceneNuthinn I always interpreted that as a mix of sith sorcery masking Palpatines presence and hiding in plain sight. Like they can sense a dark cloud around Palpatine but can't tell the origin. In this case though at the supposed height of the jedi's power it really doesn't make sense why the helmet would prevent mind reading or why neither Sol nor Qimir sense they have the other twin.
Also She has a giant tattoo on her face saying "I AM MAE". So it's already stupid apart from his ability to sense things, which the writers change from episode to episode. The longer he spends with her not realising, the dumber it will get. Yes her hair is in the way blah blah. Is it really though?

I recently met a guy at a coffeeshop who told me some crazy military stories. I was there for 2 hours amazed at these stories. Next time I came back, the other regulars were like "uh yeah, it's stolen valor. He didn't do those things." I was actually mad I wasted all that time listening to him.

Exactly. People are really defending it by saying it's a character arc. Mae literally tries to kill her sister in a house fire (because she doesn't want to be separated), switches sides to be with her sister, just to switch sides again and leave her sister stranded on a random planet with a sith lord.
She doesn't want to go to jail. The reason she was going to give herself to the Jedi was because she HAD information that now is out there. What does she have to bargain with now? Also, we don't know what her plan is at this point. The show isn't over.
It wasn’t even well set up 😂. Like she could make that decision and it not snap our necks if it was something we had time to see her struggle with instead of her just ANNOUNCING her betrayal all of a sudden.
I can't say it's the best yet, but definitely the most enjoyable so far. I actually felt bad Jecki died. This episode really justified her sass. She wasn't just a smart mouth, but a fearless fighter, throwing herself into combat like that. Sadly her recklessness got the best of her. She reminded me a bit of Padawan Obi Wan in Phantom Menace.

My theory is that Mae & Osha are the same person, and "the cutting of the hair" moment was just a more overt hint at her switching between her two split personalities. One of them actually died back at the temple, and this split-personality disorder is related to why she was dismissed from the Jedi temple in the first place. This would require greatly dialing up the idea of the unreliable narrator, which the show already keeps hinting at, and that the writers are intentionally including many red herrings and non-linear events. This would explain a lot of the oddities in their behavior, how they communicate with one another, and the bizarre force vision where Osha is following the younger version of her sister. Or it's just bad writing.

Rey vs Kylo Ren in TFA was pretty well seen. As well as Luke vs Kylo and that dope dyad fight in TROS. Really one of the only good moments in that film. CW had plenty of night saber fights; Anakin and Obi-Wan vs Darkside Ahsoka for one example.
They think they're sly. Like nah.... we get it. It's what they did with transformers in the late 2000's. The CGI wasnt as good as it is now so they used really fast movement and lighting to obscure the weakness in CGI when the detailed models would be doing too much in movement.

I was torn between Scrawny guy and The Daphomere Witch we THOUGHT was dead being the Sith. Until he said he knew how to get to the wookie and then fell for a trap. And then reminds her of her motivation. For me, that was,the give away.
The material (it was made canon in the new Thrawn books) is extremely rare and is very fragile until it is incorporated into another base material, for example is used in armor. It is called cortosis. Back in Legends it was a metal, but now it is more of a fiber or mineral.
In fairness, in legends cortosis was extremely rare and was only seen used a few times throughout all of the books and comics. Like only a handful of times.
In the Disney canon, a Separatist factory on Baatu is making Clone Armor with this Cortosis material. Anakin, Padme and Thrawn team up and destroyed it. Anakin thought that the Separatist going to use it to infiltrate the Clone Army but what they didn't know it actually a preparation for Order 66 to be used by 501st Legion when storming the Jedi temple.
Well, Mae is supposed to kill a Jedi unarmed, betting that she's gonna whack Sol that way. I did see someone point out that an Acolyte is what a Sith Apprentice trains and then they kill the Master and take that title, and the Acolyte becomes the Apprentice...so maybe at the end we see whomever the Master is at the time show up and kill both the Apprentice and his Acolyte, paving the way to what we know. Who knows. Guess we will see.

So all those Jedi were about to cleave his head multiple times and were only stopped because of that metal, yet none of them managed to hit him anywhere else…
While I understand some of the criticism, it seems a bit overblown. "Fight sequences are behind some trees, so would've been cool to see it." That happens for one sequence. And then the entire rest of the episode is more force fu greatness. They're the best fight sequences we've had in live action. The writing is very predictable in terms of the Master reveal. We need way more motivation reveal, and it's going to have to do a lot of heavy lifting to make up for the obvious reveal. Qimir even says "You really couldn't sense it was me the entire time?"
Jeremy Jahn's reaction to the Acolyte was basically my reaction to Legacy of the Force. I'm glad I have something I can easily use as a comparison when talking to the laymen of the Star Wars fandom.

Love ya Jeremy so I want to explain the trees. This is a tactic to funnel multiple attackers. This counteracts their numbers because they have to not only worry about the terrain, but also hitting each other. This is showing that they do understand the tactics in a fight like this.
@@GrandPoppyA Just because you're using actual tactics doesn't mean the filmmaking isn't poorly done. Example, the infamous Game of Thrones battle at night. Yea its supposed to be so dark that the characters can't see, but that doesn't mean it has to be filmed so dark the audience can't see what's happening. You can convey something to the audience while making sure that it is still visually coherent to the audience. This scene in the acolyte struggles with doing that.

Wasn't Star Wars originally enticing because we followed the small events that were playing out in a larger set of stories? I actually feel like they're doing that part right, here. There's a decent amount of mysteries relevant to the characters and the worlds they inhabit. Sure, I knew who the villain was, and confidently by last episode. But, I didn't mind knowing what the characters didn't in this case. There was a natural progression for them that made sense.
That metal I believe is called "Cortosis", and props to you for noticing that it came from legends/EU. It was also a metal that featured in the SW Jedi Knight/Dark Forces games series by LucasArts. This was probably the 'better' episode of a series that just has been incredibly underwhelming so far, but you're right about the fights; There doesn't seem to be any 'passion' or enthusiasm behind them at all. The choreography is good enough, but either the actors don't really seem to care, or they just need more rehearsal time. 💁♂

My theory is that Mae & Osha are the same person, and "the cutting of the hair" moment was just a more overt hint at her switching between her two split personalities. One of them actually died back at the temple, and this split-personality disorder is related to why she was dismissed from the Jedi temple in the first place. This would require greatly dialing up the idea of the unreliable narrator, which the show already keeps hinting at, and that the writers are intentionally including many red herrings and non-linear events. This would explain a lot of the oddities in their behavior, how they communicate with one another, and the bizarre force vision where Osha is following the younger version of her sister.
Or it's just bad writing.

Mostly all Disney saber fights are at night, behind trees. To hide the awful choreography.
Watch the actual episode, there’s some great choreography in there, problem is the blocking and set, AND LIGHTING
Rey vs Kylo Ren in TFA was pretty well seen. As well as Luke vs Kylo and that dope dyad fight in TROS. Really one of the only good moments in that film.
CW had plenty of night saber fights; Anakin and Obi-Wan vs Darkside Ahsoka for one example.

It's what they did with transformers in the late 2000's. The CGI wasnt as good as it is now so they used really fast movement and lighting to obscure the weakness in CGI when the detailed models would be doing too much in movement.

The material (it was made canon in the new Thrawn books) is extremely rare and is very fragile until it is incorporated into another base material, for example is used in armor. It is called cortosis. Back in Legends it was a metal, but now it is more of a fiber or mineral.

In fairness, in legends cortosis was extremely rare and was only seen used a few times throughout all of the books and comics. Like only a handful of times.
In the Disney canon, a Separatist factory on Baatu is making Clone Armor with this Cortosis material.
Anakin, Padme and Thrawn team up and destroyed it. Anakin thought that the Separatist going to use it to infiltrate the Clone Army but what they didn't know it actually a preparation for Order 66 to be used by 501st Legion when storming the Jedi temple.

Well, Mae is supposed to kill a Jedi unarmed, betting that she's gonna whack Sol that way. I did see someone point out that an Acolyte is what a Sith Apprentice trains and then they kill the Master and take that title, and the Acolyte becomes the Apprentice...so maybe at the end we see whomever the Master is at the time show up and kill both the Apprentice and his Acolyte, paving the way to what we know. Who knows. Guess we will see.
We find out "Sith" is young Palpatine and he's actually older cuz darkside 🤣

I didn't even understand the helmet effect until now...
While I understand some of the criticism, it seems a bit overblown. "Fight sequences are behind some trees, so would've been cool to see it." That happens for one sequence. And then the entire rest of the episode is more force fu greatness. They're the best fight sequences we've had in live action. The writing is very predictable in terms of the Master reveal. We need way more motivation reveal, and it's going to have to do a lot of heavy lifting to make up for the obvious reveal. Qimir even says "You really couldn't sense it was me the entire time?"

@@GrandPoppyA Just because you're using actual tactics doesn't mean the filmmaking isn't poorly done. Example, the infamous Game of Thrones battle at night. Yea its supposed to be so dark that the characters can't see, but that doesn't mean it has to be filmed so dark the audience can't see what's happening. You can convey something to the audience while making sure that it is still visually coherent to the audience. This scene in the acolyte struggles with doing that.

Wasn't Star Wars originally enticing because we followed the small events that were playing out in a larger set of stories? I actually feel like they're doing that part right, here. There's a decent amount of mysteries relevant to the characters and the worlds they inhabit. Sure, I knew who the villain was, and confidently by last episode. But, I didn't mind knowing what the characters didn't in this case. There was a natural progression for them that made sense.
That metal I believe is called "Cortosis", and props to you for noticing that it came from legends/EU.
It was also a metal that featured in the SW Jedi Knight/Dark Forces games series by LucasArts.
This was probably the 'better' episode of a series that just has been incredibly underwhelming so far, but you're right about the fights; There doesn't seem to be any 'passion' or enthusiasm behind them at all. The choreography is good enough, but either the actors don't really seem to care, or they just need more rehearsal time. 💁♂
