Hi! I usually start rinsing in cold water and then gradually warm the water up and keep rinsing until most of the excess dye is out of the shirt. If I have quite a bit of excess dye, I will run a sink full of hot water and add a little blue Dawn dish soap to the water and allow the shirt to soak. I keep repeating the soaking process until the water is almost clear. Then I wash the shirt in hot water and use Dharma's Textile Detergent (or Synthrapol) in the washing machine. I usually untie the shirt after I've rinsed it for awhile and before I begin soaking it.
Thank you! 😀 I don't normally put my items in bags. Instead I have long plastic totes (ones that are meant to go under the bed) that I've put metal racks in the bottom (to keep the items up off the bottom of the tote), and I place my items in those totes. I put the lid on the tote so that the items don't dry out. During the summer, I put the totes outside and they get really steamy inside. I can usually get several projects in one tote at a time without them touching each other. Years ago when I first started tie dyeing, I would put my shirts in plastic bags to process. However, the excess liquid dye would run out of the shirt and puddle in the bottom of the bag. Depending on the colors on the shirt, sometimes it would muddy my colors. It was also fairly common to have leaky bags. The totes work really well to help avoid muddy colors or messes from leaky bags.
I personally store my soda ash solution in a 5 gallon plastic bucket with a lid that I got at Walmart. I'm pretty sure it is corrosive to galvanized metal. It is definitely corrosive to Aluminum. If you ice dye using the disposable aluminum pans, they will get small holes in them eventually and begin to leak.
You can. I think I've only posted a couple videos where I used liquid dye on an incline. Here is a link to one of them. th-cam.com/video/ykHheamWj6U/w-d-xo.html
@@FunEndeavors i really learned a lot from you ✌🏻 it’s just that i sometimes see tie dye trucker hats & i always windered how they do it 🤷🏻♂️ So i thought to bring up the subject 😅 Thank you for ur amazing videos anyways it’s so useful ✌🏻✌🏻
The only thing I hate about youth shirts is that often they are way more expensive than adult shirts 🙄 I have an idea I would love to see in a video. Same concept of different pallets on either side, but, make your lines slant 45deg one way on one side and the opposite on the other. That way all the crossing X's give you a more varied cornucopia with twice as many fractals if you know what I mean 🙂 I also ordered some bluebird yesterday and I will let you know how it works out when I use it 🙂
I've been buying my shirts through a wholesaler and so the prices aren't necessarily more expensive, but they aren't really cheaper either. You would think if they charge more for a plus size shirt - that they would charge less for a youth size. However, it might be more difficult to make the youth size. That's a cool shirt idea. I've been waiting until I'm out of quite a few colors before I place a Dharma order, but I'm excited to try the new Bluebird. Let me know how you like it.
I know the video was made late but Im gonna try and do this technique for school. Where doing sewing and have to use dye. Thanks for the video!
That's great, have fun with it!
Another masterpiece! Little people clothes are SO CUTE! I made my niece a 2T size. It was so tiny and adorable. ❤️
Thank you!
I love watching your videos! I've learned so much from you. You're awesome at what you do!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching and I'm glad you are enjoying the videos.
I always like your shirts.
Thank you so much!
That's a fun technique.
Hi Angie! I wish I found your channel sooner. What is your wash out process ?

Hi Angie-do you bag and store your work for 24-48 hours? Love your work!

Question! What does everyone store their mixed soda ash?? And does anyone know if its corrosive to galvanized metal?
I personally store my soda ash solution in a 5 gallon plastic bucket with a lid that I got at Walmart. I'm pretty sure it is corrosive to galvanized metal. It is definitely corrosive to Aluminum. If you ice dye using the disposable aluminum pans, they will get small holes in them eventually and begin to leak.
Perfect! Thank you!

Can you tie dye a trucker hat?
I haven't ever tie dyed hats. I bought a plain hat several months ago and I just haven't gotten around to it.
