  • In this video, I open and demonstrate how I use the Sinew Dowel to tie designs into tee shirts or tapestries for Tie-Dyeing. The Dowel allows me to pull the sinew very tight without hurting my hands.... it certainly makes the process much easier and you will have better results in the end.
    Artificial Sinew is a waxed string that is very strong, it is used for tying designs tightly and will leave a white line.
    These Sinew Dowels are from Nikolay Savin in Russia, he sells them all over the World, so just send him a message and he will set up a sale for you. Here is his contact info :

    For things like geodes and mandalas, is it usually better to let the fabric dry completely? I've seen multiple videos mention to let the fabric dry on those specific designs, and I can only imagine the drying somehow assists the twine in keeping the dye out.

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      when a tee is tied very tightly it is best to let it dry before dyeing... this assists with the saturation of the tee.... the folds are so tight that if the tee is slightly damp, it can block the dye from soaking into the folds that are deep inside the folds.... as for the white lines... that comes from being tied so tight that the dye cannot get under the sinew ..... I hope this helps... there is so much to explore with tie-dye and each thing you do differently, yields different results... have fun exploring ✌🏻🙏❤️ and yes ask questions

  • @bryannewell2422
    @bryannewell2422 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Mr. Tie Dye, love your videos. I had a question for you, sometimes when I first unravel my pieces there's this great white that sticks out where some of the dye didn't get to. I usually try to avoid this, but it often has a nice effect and so I don't mind it so much. That said, once I rinse the piece and wash it, that white often gets colored in, especially if I use purple. Is there any way to avoid this? I rinse it cold to start, so that the soda ash hopefully goes away before hot water and excess dye can interact with the white fabric. Also, I don't know if it's possible, but I would love to learn how to tie dye the Deathly Hallows symbol from Harry Potter and the NY Yankees Logo
    Thanks for these videos, love your work.

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you and yes I know what you mean, I love a little white in my designs sometimes ... for me, I find part of the key is letting the tees batch for longer with heat... I do 48 hours and stack my tubs over a heat vent so they get nice and toasty ... so by the time I am doing my wash out, most of the dyes are exhausted so there is less chance of back staining .... then I rinse in the sink in cold with the tee still tied to wash away the soda ash, then remove the ties, rinse a bit longer in the cold, then turn up to warm... this is when some of the excess dyes start to come out more and 'stain' the white areas .... BUT, if you go from rinsing right into the washer with hot water and Synthrapol Soap (some dyers use Blue Dawn Dish soap or Folex Carpet Cleaner as they too are pH neutral) ... the soap will help keep the excess dye particles suspended in the water so they do not back stain the tee .....
      that is how I do it and many times when I toss a tee in the washer, all of my white space looks colored, but with the soda sh gone and the soap being pH neutral, the dye washes away instead of bonding ... I hope this helps
      just in case I mention something else, here is my washing video :th-cam.com/video/t0M_nstKkjM/w-d-xo.html

      here is how you fold and tie the heart : th-cam.com/video/8uC6PlAcTSg/w-d-xo.html
      but to get a white outline like in this video, I tied it very tightly with sinew, that blocks the dye from getting to the fabric and leave a white line

    If you do not get that sinew super tight on the dowel then your string will be a giant knot in no time.

      thank you for the added info... and yes using the drill puts it on the dowel nice and tight... I have not had a giant knot since I started using the dowels ✌🏻❤️🙏

      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the place to enter was over on the Community Tab .... I thought it went out to everyone on TH-cam... but it appears that only people on computers can see that tab for some reason and ai have not heard back from TH-cam yet ... sorry.... I will have to figure out a way to do drawing here that works for everyone

    Also the best sinew is ROUND SINEW, not flat sinew...

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have tried it and I prefer the flat sinew.... but I have heard other dyers mention they like it also.... flat is my personal choice 😉✌️
      I would love to hear more of why the round works better... do you have some examples I can see of what you are doing with it? tag me on FB or IG, I would love to see ... I may have to give it another try 🙏
