Fun fact - Ukrainian folk music is traditionally passed on by rote, so you wouldn't be breaking any norms by learning this by ear!
Other fun fact - the form and chord progression of this song is nearly identical to both "Tyzh Mene Pidmanula" and "Ikhab Kozak Za Dunai!" (forgive my transliterated spelling) Ergo, you can get 3 tunes for the price of 1 with this tune's form and chords!

That's awesome, Ryan! I love learning by rote, and it seems like a lot of folk songs are passed on this way. Thanks for confirming, and for sharing the names of the other two songs.

Hopefully no Pole feels offended by calling it Ukraininan, nor Ukrainian takes offense in calling it Polish. It comes from XIXc. with lyrics originally in Polish but parallel lyrics exist in Ukrainian (they are fundamentally the same, especially when you look up transliteration). When you are hanging out with Ukrainians it's really common to sing it in both languages, because it's so similar. Very helpful channel, keep up great job!

😁 Ha! It is not Ukrainian song at all. It is the most popular Polish folk song [ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hej_Soko%C5%82y ]. We used to be one country in the past [ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish%E2%80%93Lithuanian%E2%80%93Ruthenian_Commonwealth ]. The other funny fact is that our national epic "Pan Tadeusz" starts with words: "O Lithuania, my country, thou art like good health ... " 😃
Here is Michal Sawicki prformance: th-cam.com/video/XjQ0MZk_b10/w-d-xo.html
In fact none of my Ukrainian friends knew "Hej Sokoły" until I played and sang them this. I live 50km from UA border and I have a lot of Ukrainian friends. Trying to help them now as much as I can.
If you want the real Ukrainian song try this: th-cam.com/video/ZztmQsSAqfo/w-d-xo.html it is their amazing patriotic folk song.
Greetings from South-East of Poland. +1 Subs.

As Polish as Ukrainian, no offense should be taken by neither side when attributing it to anyone. It was released 4 days after war broke out, let it be Ukrainian, cool act of showing personal support.

Ronen, may I request you to play a Filipino music/song "Bato Sa Buhangin" by Cinderella using your accordion? I want you to make that song more romantic. ♥️😄♥️ There is no yet accordion version of that music. I hope you could make it. I will send the link of your accordion version to my friends here in the Philippines. I am looking for a music made by you that I will share to my Filipino friends. Trust me they would be amazed. They always watch YT videos. You can check the other versions too to make your own accordion arrangement.

Їхав козак за Дунай is another super easy Ukrainian folk song. It's actually in the Palmer-Hughes book 2 but it's called "Minka" there
