    Use a Different Note!
Say you are joining in with your left hand playing the chords… alternating bass and chord e.g. G bass, G major, G bass, G major etc. I call this “Root, Chord, Root, Chord”. The next step might be to play: root, chord, 5th, chord. The 5th is D bass which is next door to G bass so it’s not too tricky. In fact the whole G scale in bass notes is only a button or two away so try different ones! Here are some of my favourite moves:
Root, chord, 3rd, chord. The 3rd is always the note on the counter bass row next to the root.
    Root, chord, 6th, 5th.
Root, chord, 7th, chord, 6th, chord, 5th, chord.
Root, chord, 5th, b7th. (For modal or minor stuff)

I like the fact that you never needed to mention what the chord was, just once you changed the tonality to minor but still no need to say the root. The beauty of Stradella basses, it doesn’t matter, once you’ve learned one pattern it applies to all.

Cheers Ron - I will do some more when time allows! Meanwhile I have some other tips etc at www.georgewhitfield.co.uk. (PS I notice I made a mistake in this video - it's a flattened 7th not a flattened 5th)

My biggest issue is finding a minor key say, a few buttons away. DO you have tips on navigation eg G to B minor, or even further away. Or os it just getting your 10 000 hours in?

Thanks for the reply George. That was interesting to read about your accordion build. You can see a shot of me on Claudios web page. I am standing on stage of the scottish hall in Wiapu New Zealand . It was New years eve 2007,
Claudio built my accordion especially for me. It is 96 bass 34key LMMM fitted with Musictech Musicmaker . I will try and send a photo
