The 1098s is a real man’s bike ! You absolutely have to respect it. If you don’t you will be in trouble. The V4 is easy to ride, the 1098 absolutely not. You have to work on it, the harder you ride it the easier it gets. But you will get fatigued faster than on any other bike. It is fun trying to tame it. It’s addictive and I love it. Parallel you have a beautiful design that is timeless. I have the tricolore and I will never sell it. These bikes are rare and will not come back. No modern Ducati gives me the same feelings …
Great video! I remember going to look at these and the 848's at the dealer when they first came out. They all had little hang tags on the handle bars that said something like; '50% less maintenance'. I wonder what the value of these will be in the years to come since you can't get a bike without all the electronics anymore.
I have one of the first 1098 R. It was brought into the UK to homologise the model for the Airwaves Ducati British Superbike Team. I will be honest it is an absolutely brutal bike… 186bhp at 186kg… and then there is a really basic first traction control system which works… but it’s not subtle 😂 It feels more like a rev limiter. I walk up to ride it and I hear it in my head say… “oh not you again” 😂 Only Carlos Checa could excersise all the performance… the rest of us are just fumbling. 😂 A truly intimidating bike…
I had the (mis)fortune to find and purchase an `09 1098R, ex - Australian SBK put back to road trim by Team Motologic after running two bikes and riders in 2010, I got the manager of the race dept. and checked frame and engine numbers - it checked out as #2 bike for one of the riders, I knew it had been raced by then, not too many ways to get a stone-chipped carbon front guard apart from chasing other bikes round a circuit after all, what an animal of a bike that was, 2009 was the first year the model got T/C - just a 1-8 setting, but it was useful in the wet !!
@@AudrainMuseumNetwork Oh yeah that was the only big bore Ducati I had which frightened me, I was lucky enough to have a D 16RR and a panigale 1199S, and I have a huge amount of respect for them too, but only the 1098R was scary.
It‘s just brutal. You will love it or you will hate it. And when you love it you will hate it the same time. It‘s that one motorbike, you absolutely hate to ride in any urban scenery to get off it with pain, then you look at it, still in pain and you wish to ride it immediatly again, so that you can hate it. The only bike that i know who is as delicate to ride was the old Paso with that little, wide front wheel. Both bikes have on thing in common - that is a bike for very advanced and skilled drivers. Beginners and intermidiate riders should keep theyr hands of that beast. I love hate the one of my friend, that i can ride actually. I fell of my Enduro last week, so the pain on the duc is the double - i don‘t care about, it‘s one of the last pure and true beasts on that planet. Pain goes bye and the world will never again deliver beasts like this one.
I am a proud owner of a 2008 1098s. Full Termi, race ecu, Lightech levers and rear sets , all few carbons pieces 😎. I just recently posted a video of it !
The first time I had to get gas an older gentleman approached me with a really worried look on his face and asked me if my bike was ok and if I needed help to fix it! It was hilarious and he didn’t know about the dry clutch
1098 is a diva. She is not easy to ride. You have to know what you are doing. But she has a beautiful beautiful L2 sound. And the power is more then enough for the street.
The term analogue is used to depict a model absent of abs, traction control, etc. Does that not mean the last analogue Ducati is in fact the 1198 non s model ?
Love scary bikes. The Duc has made me a better rider. I get on an R1 or H2 and they ride like Cadillacs. Definitely need to be more skilled when pushing the Duc to its limit.
1098/1198 are the last Ducati-sounding Ducati Vtwin, unless you want to buy an air-cooled Scrambler with a very much Euro-5 neutered set of engines from years ago.
That stacked headlights just isn’t attractive to most, great bike but the aesthetics are not for everyone. Now put 1098 or 916 bodywork on it and then “yes please”
With difficulty! We could've brought down the mic level a bit. Check out our 916 video where we figured it out. Thanks for watching! th-cam.com/video/6231UucZm4c/w-d-xo.html
Story goes that ducati threatened the FIA if they don’t increase the CC‘s for 2cyl engines, they would use the desmoseidici rr as a wsbk. They had to sell 1000 production bikes in order to compete. The desmo sold over that number. The decision was quickly made. How italian is that?
I have a 1098s and I’m in love with her. She is the last true Ducati, without electronic helps, but with a amazing sound.
Last true Ducati… there’s 12 plus years of Ducati owners would mights have something to say about that.
Make a video on how to do the belts and valves!!

Hey now! The 999 is gorgeous! That's why I have two of them.
The 999 and the 1098 are on my dream bikes list! The 999 is gorgeous!
I just picked up a 2004 999. I love it
If Ducati had installed a single sided swingarm on the 999, it would have looked better. It was a very good race weapon. 🏁
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Love this throwback review. And God, why oh why doesn't Ducati offer their sportbikes in yellow and black anymore?
My yellow 2007 Ducati 1098 is perfect. I enjoy riding her every chance I get, and she puts a smile on my face every time.
Had a 1198S and now a CBR1000RR Repsol. One cannot miss the design similitudes between the two
I have a 97 916 a 2008 1098r and a 2003 ST4s. the 1098r is a true beast, it's truly a race bike, all are awesome. Great review.
I'm proud to say i have this same bike and i'm still in Love
I have one of these with 70mm termi and just love it..

Stupid cheap right now, unbelievable what you can buy a 1098s for, like $7k
I'm so glad people are doing videos like this nowadays!

Ducati Never rode in WSBK with a real 1098 (1099cc), the rode after the 999 with the R, the 1098R and 1198R had the same 1198cc-Engine 😉
Very good video! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
I had a 996 first sport bike ever now I have a 1098s I picked up for 7000 mint condition she's wicked
1198 without dts was analog.. the true last analog?
What's scarier- 1098 or V4R?

much more brutal delivery, with zero electronic aids...

Correct, but the 1198 is a continuation of the 1098! They are more or less the same motorcycle with a few power upgrades
