I'm italian and a i am a Ducati super fan owner. To a group of people you shoud call them: "ducatisti", plural; to one person you have to say: "ducatistA". Super cool! Good job guys.

Glutamine, is the first time that I hear about the term "ducatiani". In the italian Ducati website there is the same article, probably this word was used in the past. In italian we say: "Io sono un ducatista" = "I'm a ducati fan/owner"; "Noi siamo dei ducatisti" = "We are ducati fans/owners".

I bought a 916 new in 1997 and still have have it, the maintenance is not really that bad. The only real issue was the voltage regulator and once that was sorted its been 100% reliable. The original ecu finally failed in 2019, not bad, and Ducati still sells the dang thing! Change the belts, check and adjust the rockers, change the oil, and DON'T over rev them, they will just go and go and go, and people still love it to this day, every time I ride I ride I get at least a thumbs up from somebody, it's uncomfortable, and and blah blah blah but nothings handles like it, or sounds like or makes you fell like a hero, which I'm not, its just so unique. I also have a 2008 1098r and a 2003 ST4s. I will have no plans of selling any one of them.

Excellent video. It could be an hour long and I still wouldn't get bored! I've owned a 1098 in the past and also several IL4 Japanese bikes. The engine character, torque of the 1098 makes it a much more visceral and pleasurable riding experience than any other sportsbike I've experienced. You have to ride one for a little while to get it!
The 1098 is fun even riding slow while the IL4 bikes only feel great when you're revving and riding them hard which isn't always practical on the street.

I'm a huge Ducati Superbke fan and own all 6 Generationsof R models from the Final Edition 888 to the 998R, 999R, 1098R, 1199R, and am curretny awaiting the arrival of my new 1000cc V4R. And I have ridden the current Panigale 1100 V4S at the Missano World Circuit this past July ar World Ducati Week 2018 and it is an incredible bike - handling, power comfort and confidence.
But to rate the different generations, the 2nd genertion 916 released in 1993 (which I also owed and later ugred to a 926cc R verson ) was the best superbike of the time, period. Nothing else from the Japanese manufacturers handled as well, and it had enough power at the time. The 2nd Gerneration ended in 2002 with the larger displaceement 996/998Rs which kept the same incredible handling and offered the power and torque increase to beat the latest Japanese competition.
(Note: I would later add to my collection a 2nd Gen 2004 998S Finale Edition which was modified with the new 999R Testastreta engine, a similar NCR bike which Frankie Chili raced in 2003 to beat the new factory 999RS race bike their first year in World Superbike)
With the next 3rd Generation 999R and 4th Generation 1098R (actually 1198cc on the R models) the bikes got bigger and more comfortable to ride, and the engines where much more powerful, but i don't think they handled as well as the Generation 2s, until we came to the arrival of Generation 5 Panigale 1199R. This is the best Ducati Superbike ever, to match and surpass the lightweight, handling of the 2nd Gen bike, but with an amazing personality of an engine with a torque curve that only a V-twin tuned to 220hp can provide. This is my favorite of the Ducati Superbike family.
When I rode the new 1100cc V4S on the track at Missano it did blow me away in handling and braking as being just incredible, despite the V4 engine's added 20lbs of weight which you just don't feel when riding it. And the V4s power was awesome, but the 1100cc V4 is now so smooth, just like a Japanese in-'line four, that it has lost the much loved personality of the classic Ducati V2. I'm looking forward to owning and riding the new 1000cc V4R because I except the higher state of tune of the 235hp engine will help to put some persoanlity back into the feel of the power. I cant wait! - Jim Gianatsis / Editor, FastDates.com

Aprilia is not more refined, it is a race bike (note downforce wings on the 19), which received a few updates- still a race bike. Ducati v4s is one of the most advanced bikes for the road/track and way more versatile and easy to ride than rsv. Watch 44t’s review of v4 vs rsv4.

You also have to go back to the 907ie, which was the first with Liquid Cooling and Fuel injection, before the 851. Granted the 907ie was more of a tour motorcycle, but was a all around road machine. 851 was first of the 4 valve motors with liquid cooling. But without the mistakes found in the 907ie, the 851 would have been much worse. Also, the 888 was an improvement on the 851 as well. Now riding a 2017 Supersport S, which puts me back into the sweet spot of the Ducati lineage. You guys had a rare opportunity to do something great here with this stable full of Italian studs. Now don't get me wrong (a term you used way too much in this vid) This was fun. Loved seeing and hearing the bikes. Your banter was entertaining. Sadly, after your great Ode da la 851, this vid fell short. I thought we would get a proper comparison. Can you guys stop standing in front of the 999 all the time XD You are blocking its magnificence! I think out of these bikes it's the most Ducati to ever Ducati. Last line of the fully analogue models, pinnacle of its age, and the looks are just so ahead of its time, still stand out today, and honestly I find it a lot more aesthetically pleasing than the 916 with its wide front and froggy headlights. The 999 looks so focused and centered around performance, while still being elegant. It's like if Da Vinci were to create a fighter plane, you just know he would cook up something mad, yet stylishly beautiful.

To your point the engine rapidly evolved from 851cc to 888, 904, and 926. Ironically the 916 was never raced as a 916cc, Fogarty and others always raced 955 or later 996cc versions.

@@848evo4 Many of the WSBK Ducatis prior to the 916 used the original 851 bodywork, even in '92-93. Fogarty used the new body in '93. The SP model his bike was ostensibly based on in 1991 was called an 851 SP2 with 851 decals, but to your point the actual capacity of that bike was 888cc. Polen's '91 & 92 bikes had 888 decals at some races (Ducati museum bike has them), but used the original bodywork not the Terblanche refresh of '92. He may have switched late in '92 to the new bodywork but most pictures with his #1 plate are of the older shape.

...how many miles were you away from home when you said that?
Look #1 if you have to read an owners' manual to survive a ride on a bike, that's not a good sign. Riding it in stock trim with the default settings should be fine. Not saying that it's optimized, but still fine.
If it's not then you're not a good rider, because good riders don't kill themselves riding bikes. It's part of the code.

I don't know of an uglier superbike out there, and whoever came up with it's styling should be staked down to an anthill between some gator nests, in the Florida Everglades, have honey poured on him, during Mosquito season! I don't care how good it performs, I will NEVER purchase one. It's the 998 for me, thank you very much.
