    Cool spray booth Bob, looking forward to seeing you using it.

      Grandpa Rails do you have a booth we can compare? Or are you able to spray without one?

      @@grandparails8858 Do you think there would be any interest in a video on tips for using a spray can outside in cold weather? I am also thinking about building my own paint drying booth? Would that be of interest?

    Very interesting Bob and well-presented. I look forward to following this series! Thanks for sharing. Best, John

      @@PKWModelwerx Well Bob, that's part of the reason I find this series interesting. I have an airbrush but no spray booth, so I rely on decent weather. I certainly understand the challenges that PA weather brings - although not quite as bad as Pittsburgh. I'll definitely be following along. Best, John

    Excited to see how this turns out. I've spent some hours over the past 2 weeks building my own, nearly finished. However I included a 3' cabinet underneath for paint storage and misc items. I'm at the point of doing the electrical, by wiring the fan to a switch and adding a socket to power the air compressor. I went the same route as you with the blower panel made out of wood, it was quite a process but we'll worth the strength.

      Awesome! Thanks for the report on your success. I too considered a cabinet below but opted to get it done quicker and have a more portable unit. Getting mine connected to a window will be an exercise as all my windows open out, via a crank. Thanks for watching.

      Look under the ventilation blog. They HAVE changed their site and the information is not easy to find any more.

    Thinking I could use an old cabinet hmmm. Or on the other hand if you don't have the time to build one Pace booths are lacquer friendly but are slightly expensive around 300.00 with free shipping.

    • @PKWModelwerx
      @PKWModelwerx  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had not heard of Pace so I checked them out. The product looks really good but I wish there was solid data on how it is safe for lacquer and other potentially explosive paints and solvents. I dug around on the website and could not even find the statement they were lacquer safe. I could have missed it. I LOVE the idea of the switched outlets on the side of the booth! It looks like some of the models the fan motor is inside the booth body, which would worry me. But the photos are not complete so I could have missed it. It does look like a well-made product. Thanks for letting me know about it. Good luck with your project! Recycling a cabinet sounds like a great idea and I'd love to see what you come up with!

    Interesting build. I have been in the safety industry before and the explosion proof stuff is not cheap. You just have to look at a lot of places. Air drive is also an option, then it is just making sure the compressor is safely out of the way. I use the micro Mark portable sparky booth, like $100. Comes with filter and turntable and can be used inside. Big difference with the filters is using A particle filter ( furnace filter) with a car or filter. That’s how you can use in not ducted outside. So the filter does more. But sounds like a fun project. Plus you have the flexibility of making any size you want. In the future, would not mind making one using the most effect filter, a water curtain. I know sounds funny but you have a blower on one side and a wall of flowing water between the paint and blower. That’s what they use in the really big industrial ones. Oh well you can always dream.

      That’s amazing information! Finally some commentary from someone who REALLY knows! Thank you! A water curtain! Crazy.

    Cincinnati fan motor Carry's explosion proof ventilating fans

      @PKWModelwerx  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great tip! Thanks! Any idea of pricing for those products? I looked on e-bay and saw nothing shy of like $300 for used units. And everything on E-bay seemed too big. No prices on the Cincinnati fan website. But the belt driven axial tube models with aluminum fans looks like an awesome option for safety.

      I respect your opinion. For me the safety and preservation of domestic tranquility by removal of lacquer fumes make a proper booth a no brainer. But there are lots of ways to skin the cat. Good luck with your painting.

    DIY SPRAY BOOTH WTF!!!..the list of materials you say you would need would cost 5 to 10 times as much as a if one was to buy a reliable inexpensive portable spray booth..and btw You Ramble On Too Much !!

      Appreciate the comments. If there is a safe, inexpensive option I want to know about it. But the cheap ones are typically only safe for water-based IMHO. Let me know if there is something on the market I should consider. Good luck with your painting projects.
