I'm just about to build a spray booth, but my design had the extractor fan in the middle. I, like you, am right-handed and off-setting it to the left is a stroke of genius my friend. Well done and keep up the good work ,-)
Love your booth, man. And I love the detail about offsetting the location of the fan to the left because you're right handed. I'm going to use that idea!
Bathroom exhaust fan, simple safe quiet and effective what a great idea. I never would never have thought of that it's perfect New subscriber and new to modeling after a 50 year hiatus.
Looking to get back into modeling myself and need a paint booth. This is a simple design. I'm going to build one like it. Love the bathroom fan idea. Thank you.
Nice build! Like you, I'd like to start back up on scale modeling and want to play it smart this time by building a spray booth. Great idea offsetting the fan to account for your dominant hand! Thanks for the ideas!
Nice work! I’m going to give this a try. I’ll need to figure out how to vent it, perhaps just up to the attic of the garage since the filter should catch most of the paint.
Great booth I built one like you did , used tape to seal the sides. Your method of using caulking to create the seal sounds much better thank you for the tip 👍
Wonderful video, you've likely saved a lot of people a lot of money in both terms of something pro and medical bills, this sort of thing is what TH-cam does best, thanks so much.
Man I appreciate this video I'm getting into model railroading. And I've been looking into airbrushing and booths. And I see it would be cheaper for me to build my own spray booth . Thanks man!!!!
Awesome build sir, I went and dropped $90.00 on one of those Amazon booths instead of going with my instinct and building it, my fear was a cheap bathroom vent would be too loud, that $17.00 fan you have is 100 times quieter then mine. I'm a new sub I look forward to seeing your work.
Good stuff there bud it is always intersting to see other modelers set up.Ive been off and on car modeling for approximately 6 years but still intimidated by the airbush. Thanks for sharing.
Add binder clips to the base to hold paper towel sheets. Binder clips have a hole in them, use binding posts to hold them. For about $2 you have a system to hold a replaceable paper surface. Wet it down with water when you paint and it will keep dust out of your paint.
Moe, you are genius. I was looking at a Tamiya spray booth that ran about $250.00. This is every bit as good, if not better. Thanks for the ideas. I plan to start constructing my own next week.
Wow thats really clever, great job and thank you for sharing! I’ve watched many of these DIY vids on these and you explained it the best ( really easy for me to understand) and I really appreciate it 🤘🏻❤️🤘🏻
Good idea. You could wire up a in line lamp on-off switch. I would get the large version, easier to wire up. Just cut one side (power side, none rib side of 2 wire cord) of the power cord & attach to screws. I cut off the cable from non working appliances (toaster ovens, vacuums, mixers, etc...) & make short switched extension cords (used with soldering irons, airbrush compressor, anything without a switch) or make up switched power cords (like for the fan).
This is actually kind of amazing dude, great job! I'm really limited in space for painting and modelling so I need something I can pop on and off my desk easily, but all the store bought booths are so chunky and we're just now getting top or side mounted exhausts. I might have a look around and see if I can do a similar job with the stores I have here in Australia.
Good setup. You might even be able to use just a basic 120MM PC fan with a smaller filter if you want to lower cost. 50CFM seems pretty powerful for a box that small.
Looks good I heard these hand are fine with small painting projects just not good for spray cans because the fumes can ignite since the electric motor is in front
Thanks very useful information, especially about fan position I've never heard that mentioned before. One small improvement might be to shade or direct the lights so that it's only on the model and not shining in your eyes.
@@moesscalemodelbench9688 A strip of white card or foamboard glued beside the LED strip would reflect more light towards the model and act to block light from your eyes.
Good idea for bright LEDs. These aren't bright enough to effect my eyes at all. I'll keep that in mind for my next build or if I change out the lights. Thanks...
Man you have the best setup yet... High ceiling with a proper filter, and you sealed it. Everyone else just screws stuff in with leakage. Brilliant. I'm gonna have to follow this, and try to add hinges to make it portable/foldable.... I also dig that you knew how to direct your fan because of the right-hand dominant position. You're super big brain.
Nice job! I'm getting back into modelling as well after 20 years....trying to decide between building a spray booth or getting one of Amazon for about $150 CAD....
Hey, that's badass! I was looking for guides to make one for my own minis. Whats the purpose of the painters tape? is that just to keep layers of paint and material from forming on the wood?
I like the exhaust fan idea, but I'd probably try and make a separate box to put it in, and just run the duct to the back of the booth. This would eliminate vibration noise and maybe keep the work area quieter. This gives me some ideas though.
Great job! I was wondering if you still smell paint when spraying? Reason I ask is just because the extracted air has to make that right turn out of the fan housing. If you are wishing you could move more air, (if it is even necessary), I think I have seen in-line extraction fans. You could fit one close to your outside exit point to increase airflow. Hope this makes sense.
I've moved my booth to the right side of the vent. I also wear a respirator while I spray. I don't smell anything. I always let the fan run a little longer after a finish
Looks like a great simple build! Out of curiosity, what is the size of the box? I built a booth ages ago, and I recall it was great when I started, but I quickly realized the height was too low, especially when I added lights to the ceiling...
Do you have a problem with the filter clogging quickly? I built a booth and have a really killer fan but don't want paint on it, so I use a similar filter cloth but it gets covered quick and then the fan doesn't really suck the fumes out as good. I haven't been able to find filters like you use here in Thailand, so I'm using what I could find.
When I used this booth, I would change filters for each Build. They're cheap at about $4 per filter, or even cheaper. But it never got clogged up and I mostly Use an Airbrush. Of course if you're using Mainly spray cans it will get covered a lot quicker
@@moesscalemodelbench9688 Thanks, maybe I need to change it after each one too. I use an airbrush, but sometimes when I just need to paint something small quickly I'll grab a spray can.
I really like your booth. Straightforward, simple, but clever. You also did a great job at explaining the build from start to finish. Well-done!
I'm just about to build a spray booth, but my design had the extractor fan in the middle. I, like you, am right-handed and off-setting it to the left is a stroke of genius my friend. Well done and keep up the good work ,-)
I've seen like 20 videos "DIY Spray booth" on youtube and this one is the first that looks easy to accomplish. Cheers, great content!
Thank you
I was going to use cardboard and computer fans but I think the bathroom fan would move a lot more air thx
Love your booth, man. And I love the detail about offsetting the location of the fan to the left because you're right handed. I'm going to use that idea!
I like that idea of placing the fan offset. I too am right handed, so it made lots of sense.
Bathroom exhaust fan, simple safe quiet and effective what a great idea.
I never would never have thought of that it's perfect New subscriber and new to modeling after a 50 year hiatus.
This is perfect! Glad I looked at this before spending $150 on one
Nice Job! Really like the lights! Offset is a nice detail most people wouldn't think of.
Thank you
Nice operation you have there. The lighting is a nice touch.
very good idea - I like the filter inside - makes it easy. Thanks so much.
Thank you for this Video, I myself just getting back into the Hobby, this will definitely help me out building one for myself, thanks again
COOL AS EVER WITH THE BUILDING OF SPRAY BOOTHS!

Going to grade the fan here soon
Well done. I'm now on my way to building my own spray booth to paint my hotwheels. Thank you for the video!
EXCELLENT MOE, I'VE BUILDED MY BY USED OF PLYWOOD PANELS, AND FOUR LONG HINGES!

I’m a beginner in Gunpla and this is the type of setup I’m looking to make. Thank you for the video.
It worked great for what I used to it for. I gave it away once I got a new one and the person still uses it.
Nice detail in offsetting the fan. 👊🏻

Hot glue is the best adhesive to use with foamcore or feather board.

Yeah you pretty much can make it any size you want for whatever space
I would love to see how you build it. Especially wiring the fan.
Awesome content. You have a lot of great ideas.
Great job I just might steal your Spray Booth. Dave, NJ
Great build, would nice for the dimensions of the spray booth cheers Graham.
Lots of thoughtful details, thanks!
Very clever, I like it!
Niiiiice spray booth. My 3d printer lead me here. Thanks for the vid
I want to build myself one of these. Nice setup! If and when I build one and when I show it on the channel I will link this video.
Some 1 inch square blocks behind your filter will make it utilize all of its surface area instead of directly in front of the fan
Good job!!
Is it possible put a vaccum shop? Or the fan is the choise?
This was a great idea. I just finished something similar, inspired by this video. Nice job, sir.
Next project sorted! Thanks

Correct
I use Mostly Acrylic/ water Based paints. No spray cans
Thanks very useful information, especially about fan position I've never heard that mentioned before. One small improvement might be to shade or direct the lights so that it's only on the model and not shining in your eyes.
These are basic LEDs. They just shine straight down and into the box. Can't change the direction

Really nice! Thanks for sharing!

you can spray the inside with plasti dip. That will prolong and strengthen the booth.
subbed just for the build good stuff m8
excellent job !!!!!
awesome stuff! This is definitely what I needed to see to get myself started ASAP
Simple and efficient -- thank you for this!
Hey, that's badass! I was looking for guides to make one for my own minis.
Whats the purpose of the painters tape? is that just to keep layers of paint and material from forming on the wood?
Love it!! Sure beats paying $180 on Amazon for one!
Cool.... Time to get busy making one 😀..... Thanks 😎
That is awesome!! Nicely done!
Great video. Gave me some great ideas for building one.
Love it! Thanks for sharing
Very very helpful, thank you!!!
great piece of info, thanks a lot
Great job! Way cheaper than some that you find online!
Gotta say for an early effort not bad at all...........

How does the fan hold up with acrylic paints, metallic acrylics and the Lacker paints
Thank again for you time. I like this idea 👍
Thanks! This gave me ideas for my own plans.
Great job. I like it. Thanks
Nice job it gives me ideas for the 2 I need to build
Pretty cool man! Thanks for sharing with us! 👍
Great idea man! Love it..
Mine would need to be around 5ft wide and def have filter and good air vacuum
This looks really good.
I like the exhaust fan idea, but I'd probably try and make a separate box to put it in, and just run the duct to the back of the booth. This would eliminate vibration noise and maybe keep the work area quieter. This gives me some ideas though.
The LED lights FTW!!
Great video, very helpful thank you
great job!
Great idea👍😊
Great video! Great design especially how you offset the fan. I've been looking for a way to spray seal my projects without going outside. Thank you!!
Does solvent based paint eat away at the foam? Is that what the painters tape is for?
No Sir. The Painters tape even gave it an extra layer of protection. The guy I gave it to still uses it and it's still sturdy
Airbrush enclosure looks great were did you the filler from
Filler? Are you referring to the filter?
@@moesscalemodelbench9688 yes please
Just a regular filter you can get from lowes, walmart.
Great video!! I built my own a few years ago and used an inline fan like they do for HVAC. But your fan and set up are great
Great job! I was wondering if you still smell paint when spraying? Reason I ask is just because the extracted air has to make that right turn out of the fan housing. I've moved my booth to the right side of the vent. I also wear a respirator while I spray. I don't smell anything. I always let the fan run a little longer after a finish
Since it's movable straighten duct as much as practical, you don't need to worry about restrictive airflow.
soon as i heard your black voice i subbed lol. thanks bro
Is that fan rated for combustible fumes?
Thanks, Bro I was looking for something quick and cheap.
Cardboard, tape, a filter (or 2), and a decent enough fan to move a ton of air.
Its that simple
Looks like a great simple build! Out of curiosity, what is the size of the box? I built a booth ages ago, and I recall it was great when I started, but I quickly realized the height was too low, especially when I added lights to the ceiling...
Going to add ‘”al’right” to my list lol x2
