Inspiration and information for model making and model railroading. This channel covers tools, techniques and actual construction of models and model railroading projects. Also touched upon are railroad related photography, rail fanning and similar topics. While the primary focus is 1/87th scale modeling (HO scale), including rolling stock, structures and scratchbuilding, there will be videos on model boats, airplanes, armored fighting vehicles and other subjects, most but certainly not all of which will be in 1/72nd scale.

Railroad Dining Car Raisin Pudding! Simple and delicious!
Making historic old-fashioned raisin pudding as served in Illinois Central dining cars. A simple but delicious recipe from Dining By Rail by Porterfield. He tried over 1000 old dining car recipes before sharing 325 in his book! We all know railroad food from the heyday of train travel was very good. Experience it for yourself in the comfort of your own home!
BTW this is pudding in the sense of bread pudding, served warm, not a cold gelatinous mass! Absolutely delicious although I recommend doubling the butter suggested.

Model railroad branding. I rebranded a clock for my freelance railroad. Rather than throw it out I made it my own, and more easily read. This will go into my workshop or layout room, for sure.

Excellent job, Mr Bob. Enjoyed the rerun. Thanks for sharing about the industry. Learned something new. 😎👍🏼
Catching the replay now Bob! Brian good stream bob!
Hi Bob. Enjoyed your livestream test. The replay video actually started really crisp and really good. Nice hard hat with your sticker. I usually am not able to join any livestreams but I do watch the rerun while I’m at work. Did you put your sound acoustic foam panels back on your ceilings and walls since you moved?
Drew so good to hear from you! Thanks for the comment. I hope your creative energy is still flowing strongly. Still doing basic renovation work at the shop like fixing and finishing walls, etc. Doing the live stuff just anywhere in the main room because I haven't even started work on the workshop area. Acoustic panels will likely go there. We'll see! Stay safe and warm!
Nice element to bring to the hobby Bob.
Thanks JD. But the next video will be modeling related! Hope all is well in Tejas!
Great idea for some videos Bob.. gonna be awesome to see what you make next.. so basically this was in away a bread pudding or a rasin cobbler.. looked pretty good to me..
Thanks Pappy and, yes, this was pudding like bread pudding is pudding. Thanks for the engagement!
great idea Bob.... I like this idea for more containers... thanks for sharing
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching! I'll see you on future live streams!
Good looking mug/thermos Bob👍🏼🇺🇸😎
Thanks Stretch. I am hoping for warmer weather so I can enjoy iced beverages again! Stay warm out there brother!
What’s up Bob, had no idea you did lives, looking forward to the next one👍🏼😎
Thanks Stretch! I'm still learning though! I'll be doing a monthly show with Side Track Sunday. Enjoyed your video on the history of your neighbor's land/structure.
Now, that was cool Bob!!
Thanks Ray! I learned a little about how to film such action. Hopefully the next will be better filmed!
You're making me hungry, Bob. Great choice for a railroad cookbook. My wife collects those, and for my layout tour last summer she made appetizers from that book, and Dining on the B&O, Dining Recipes of the Union Pacific, and the Harvey House Cookbook. For Christmas, I added Atlantic Coast LineDining Car Cookbook to her collection. I'll have to ask her to try the raisin pudding...with your suggestions of course.
Greg thanks for the input. It's such a cool idea I knew others had gone before me. I'd like to know your wife's favorites from the dining cars!
I'm having her watch right now, I'll ask.

That's her, Bob. We live in Maryland... so of course. 😄
According to noted singer Tex Beneke, when travelling to Chattanooga by choo-choo, nothing could be finer than dinner in the diner. He recommends trying the ham and eggs when you get to Carolina.
Thanks for watching and commenting Bob. Hope you and yours are not impacted by the fires. My son had to evacuate but is home now.
Looks yummy. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Dave. Stay warm down there in the south!
Looks Good Chef Bob . I can't wait to see what you make next time.
Thanks Jerry! This should prolly be a separate channel. there are more people into food than model trains! And I'm not planning on stopping eating, or cooking, any time soon!
Awesome 👌 😊
Thanks for the engagement Tammy and Ray. have fun in Amherst!
@PKWModelwerx thank you 😊
that looks great but im a bad cook do you ship
Dwight I bet you could make that pudding. If you can 3D print you can bake!
Interesting recipe Bob. I never heard of Raisin Pudding. I'll have to give this a try.
Thanks for the comment John. This was really good but quite sweet. It made a bunch of servings and I had no problem consuming them all over a few evenings.
Nice demo, something I will have to do one day. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Dave. easy project. Appreciate you and your content. I never fail to watch!
i would like to learn how to make some
Decals, containers or both Dwight? Let me know if I can help. Loving the Big Boy Series BTW.
Love it. Now you have a workbench to build benchwork.
Indeed Mark. That's in the near-term plan. I've got left over 2x4 and pink foam sheets. Just need 1x2 and 1x3 and I'll be ready to crank out some L girder units, which is my intention. Thanks for the engagement!
Good work on your workbench Bob.
Thanks JD. I'm using it today on my next modeling related video - some simple 3D printed kits.
Always nice to have a work surface , glad to see you added a replaceable top when that gets beat up. Happy modeling !
Thanks for the engagement and view Jerry! I am so often too late home to watch your streams! Darn it!
Thanks for sharing Bob, it's definitely coming along 😊
Appreciate it!
@PKWModelwerx always
looking great bob
Thanks Dwight.
Definitely a great idea, and seems a cheaper solution to buying a whole new bench.. good stuff Bob
Thanks pappy. Hope the winter weather is treating you OK.
@PKWModelwerx oooh its been cold for sure, beating on my electric bill 🤣🤣
great work keep up the great vlogs thanks for share
First to comment Lee! Duly noted. Hope all is well!
you made a nice video but its a shame you have to use profanity to express yourself and for that reason I would not subscribe to your channels
Much respect for your position. All the best in 2025.
Thank you! I tried heating up my can before but nobody online gave a target temperature - I lowballed it out of fear of aerosol bombing my bathroom and ended up with pebbles. Also never realised it was a good idea to heat up the target ahead of time. Got given some tabletop sets for Christmas, which are deeply appreciated but the timing is rather inopportune. Thank you for the advice!
Good luck with your projects!
The stamping Flak18 is correct, KwK is an ink stamp on them type of cases but ultra rare to ever see a real Tiger 1 used round. Literally the only difference is the C/12 flak primer or the panzer C/22 electro primer, thought you'd never see a ztz s/30 flak fuse in a tank. 41 dated wouldn't be odd as cases did get reused, they get a punch mark to represent it. I have KwK43 AP rounds stamp dated 41 but they have electo primers and punch marks and were recovered from 505 Konigsberg KT's so nothing is unusual.
Thanks so much for the knowledgeable response! Wow! I just got the King Tiger kit in HE which should be fun to add to the collection.
You can also emulate the same environment that is achieved by sucking the air out by displacing the air using a gas that is heavier - such as the inert gas in a can of 'computer dust-off'. You still need to use a storage container with a tight lid. 'Dust-Off' displaces the air and contains no oxygen. This also should work for such items as gasket maker compounds, etc. Before they added bitterant to it, I used to use it instead of nitrogen to preserve half bottles of wine.
I hadn't made that connection but you're obviously right. Are you going to make a video about it or shall I? Let me know!
@@PKWModelwerx It's ironic that I just moved a tube of gasket maker from an airtight container to a bag and I'm looking for my can of dust off right now! Now another thing I'm wondering about... I just got a 3D printer and I see that there are tons of videos about the need to dry out the hydrophilic filament rolls and keep them stored in a very dry environment. So I decided I could ask AI for it's opinion on this, and I asked it the following, "If I use a can of inert gas which is difluoroethane (CAS #75-37-6) to displace air in a container before I store hydrophilic filament for a 3D printer in the container, will the displacement of the air in the container after the difluoroethane is introduced also displace much of the moisture in the container?" Of course it came back with a lot of comments and generally said it would do the job (which supports our premise that it is also good for mitigation of glue drying out), but here is the most significant caveat, "If the container or filament is already humid, displacing the air won't remove moisture absorbed into the filament or lingering inside the container walls.". So the take-away for me is, this is probably a good way to store your 3D filament, but you need to dry if first. As your video making skills are a lot better than mine, feel free to enhance any inspiration that I may have been able to offer. Maybe consider adding some other options such as storing 3D printer filament. And as I don't drink much wine, and I never leave leftover beer, I'm not so sure about the wine technique, the bitterant they use kind of scared me off using it with food!
great stream happy new year keep up the great vlogs and streams
Thanks Lee. Sorry I couldn't drop into your stream last night but was crazy busy.
Great job, Bob. Cool info about the different buffer decals. Happy new year! 🎆
Thanks Drew. HNY!
I like my brother m&m mark below am sorry I missed this stream live. I am watching the replay now Dave! Keep up the good work! Brian and AJ
Thanks for the engagement Brian, I hope you enjoyed the replay!
Sorry I missed this, had family over. I’ll have to watch it later.
Hello Brother Mark!
@ Good tidings brother Brian.
No worries Mark. Family first!
Semi dumb question, if it's "gassing out" I assume it's safe enough to bring in without risk of the vapors setting off the furnace? TL:DR walk out basement is normally where I spray as garage is smaller so basement is more of the work area. And let it dry outside for warm days. Sure just being a bit paranoid, but concern is it drying and having the open flame of the furnace igniting the gases. Granted I assume it's fine for a handful of smaller models, and not crazy enough to spray inside. Will warm, spray, bring them in within a minute work for 40-50F? I've read primer in the cold could mess with the finish. Just not sure the window I have for that. Fairly new to all this, but I have a heathy respect for physics so not trying to turn the basement into a fuel air bomb lol.
Not a dumb question. I don't think that the amount of flammable gases emitted during the gassing out process is sufficient to be explosive. Also, your basement or garage are very large areas compared to a spray booth in which vapors could be concentrated. So I suspect you will be fine but I'd consider opening the door for a short while and letting some of the fumes escape, just to keep the area more pleasant and reduce risk to zero. Thanks for your question and good luck with your projects!
Having driven truck and done some intermodal hauling. I would pickup chase and container in Nebraska and haul to bnsf yard in egerton ks trucks came in a very secured entrance then would pull up to a row that was givin unlock pens on trailer to free the container a forklift style machine comes in and is designed to lift the container off the trailer once the truck was free he pulled out the container was stacked and would later be loaded onto train with the crane trucks never had to go near tracks The empty containers for the truck drivers were picked up in an off site yard. And we would take it back to where we picked it up. I also did a ton of driving into transfer facility where loads where taken off highway trucks put into containers then taken to the intermodal yard right next to it by yard trucks. Great video!!!!!
That's a great description and awesome info from someone actually doing intermodal work. Thank you! Stay tuned as the first scene to be completed on my new layout will be the intermodal yard!
Hey guy, I don't know your name, but you've given me new confidence. I'm 72 and have assembled models as a teen (usually planes and cars) but never used an airbrush. From what I've seen, a decent airbrush and compressor will run me in the $200-300 range. I want a good one to begin with so I'm checking all kinds of videos for advice. Thanks for posting. P.S. I have yet to start assembling a Revell 1/48 WW II Naval Corsair (remember "Black Sheep Squadron?"). Am I in the ball park as far as price? Thanks for the advice and what model airbrush and compressor do you recommend?
Dale thanks for your comment. I use an Iwata Revolution and you can get a brush and compressor combo from them for 300. You might want to spend more - like another 100 - on a spray booth. As long as you are not spraying lacquer or enamel - sticking to water-based paints - a cheaper booth like that will be fine. See my video on spray booth safety if you want too much information! Good luck with your projects! I'm 67 myself so we're in the same demographic!
These are great tips. I have some items i need painted that i didn't have time to do in warmer weather so this is good to know. 😊
Good luck and thanks for your comment!
Any advice for painting outdoors when the target can’t be moved? I’m planning to paint some porch railings.
Wait for a warmer day. Spray hot paint. sand the surfaces to be painted as lack of adhesion is my first concern. wait until the sun has warmed the target. Good luck!

Danke für die vielen und interessanten Infos und Tipps mein neuer Freund.😃😃
I love it! Especially the "color that motivates you" part. Thanks Bob!
Thanks for watching and your comment. What color did you end up using?
I use a tank with an aquarium heater to keep from wasting water - I can get it to 94 degrees and hold it there
I don't understand. Is that where you warm your spray cans?
Thank you for sharing! Such a great idea and it had never occurred to me!
Very nice and thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks Dave. Hope you are feeling better from that cold or whatever it was.
