We reached out to multiple creators from the Kannada industry who unfortunately couldn’t make time for us for this particular roundtable. But do stay tuned for exciting updates!
Ahh 😢!!! What a missed opportunity. I feel sad and at the same time a bit happy, atleast now Kannada creators are being considered for Round-table conversations ☺ A Prashanth Neel for this panel would have been perfect. Still hyped up for the round-table great job FC bringing these illustrious talents under 1 roof and have a conversation. Cheers.
What an absolutely immersive and learning experience just to sit through this! The creative energy in the room must have been electric! Absolutely brilliant 👏🏻👏🏻
i mean its pretty obvious. Malayalam films have always had superior movies (in terms of stories and acting and script) when compared to other film industries in India for a long long time now.. The mid 60s-70s emergent art-house scene and the then new wave 80s golden era where art and commercial styles was successfully integrated while every other film industry couldn't even understand what it meant. The 2 Big Ms rise and peak with great writers-directors and supporting actors and now the 2010- present day New wave Renaissance. Only the 2000-2010 decade was dark days for us in the last 50 years or so when the 80s era started stagnating and rotting. But yea otherwise if u strip the budget factor away Malayalam cinema has always been superior to others and Malayalees should be the last people surprised about it.
I am from ap, and i recently watched hridayam, it was amazing and daily I used to watch the movie clips atleast an hour, really it only possible with malayalis, hattsoff to u bros
Offcourse the best scripts comes from Malayalam. But due to exposure to worldwide contents nowadays I'm sure other movie industries will pickup as Kamal said from northeast hence, we cannot discount other movie industries.
It's surprising that nobody mentioned Drishyam as a pan Indian movie from Malayalam. All credits to Jeethu Joseph. And kudos to the confidence of Prithviraj to go on such a stage and vow before the greats that he ll put Malayalam cinema on the global map. Malayalam cinema deserves more heights and hope they stick on to their roots in that process. One of the Hardcore Malayalam cinema fan from tamilnadu and sure there are many of them out there reading this.
So I think the reason why drishyam is not mentioned and Kamal sir already said it is because, if you think of it like there was a trend since the 80s, where most of the amazingly hit tamil, telegu, hindi cinemas were actually first made in Malayalam. It always used to go in a chain Malyalam - Tamil - Telugu - Hindi and they'd go on to be huge hits.
Drishyam was discussed during BR's Mega Round Table Interview. Anurag Kashyap mentioned that it was remade in Chinese & collected 200 million dollars! 🤯
Malayalam cinema should definitely get more exposure..it just saddens me that almost all my friends have never seen a Malayalam film, and they just loved the Hindi remake of "Drishyam" so much, i wanna show them there are plenty of masterpieces from Malayalam cinema they're missing out.

Kamal Haasan is an Institution and Prithviraj is on a Mission. Felt so proud when Prithvi mentioned about an Odia Film. The film is called 'Daman'. Recently, Anupam Kher bought the remake of another Odia Film Pratikshya and I cannot Emphasize how I have been wanting Odia Film industry to grow from mindless and remake films and make a name of its own. We as an Odia audience appreciate a Drishyam and Interstellar in the same breath. I hope a giant production company comes into play and increase the Odia Film Market and remove all the notions about Odisha as a state. HOPE!
I am a Telugu guy living in Chattisgarh whose half of the family settled in South Odisha, I really feel Odisha deserve better. So much natural resources, so much talent, beauty and still it is so backward and not at all in the mainstream media. I think small budget content driven films can put it in the center stage. Let's wish it happens soon.
Malayali here, came to the comment section exclusively to get the name of the Odia movie, thanks for that. We as audience have to support and spread the word in good quality content. Money will come, but the creators need our support. Looking forward to seeing good content coming out of Odia film industry!
I had had an Odia manager some years back, who would bash Tamils are language fanatics, outsider-haters and all (the kind of rhetoric that you often hear from the immatured lot) and one day I hit back stating "now you know why Tamil film industry is so popular and Odia film industry just lives on paper". He was taken aback and though he didn't retaliate with bad appraisals and all, but he did stop talking about that subject thereafter. Welcome relief for me.

Yes I saw their excuse very busy, but still unacceptable. Karo toh pura 4 states ka karo, nai to mat karo.
This interview is all the reasons why Bollywood is a sinking ship. Extremely Few directors in Bollywood sort of have clarity, respect and awareness of what these film makers have. Thank you Film companion for this podcast
There are definitely directors with vision but Bollywood is very risk averse. The producers in Bollywood don't like betting their money on anyone that doesn't guarantee a win. Otherwise, directors like Anurag Kashyap and Anubhav Sinha can make some great cinema if they get backing from the money people. But people don't give them money and don't trust their conviction after just one big failure.

Also the bollywood audience too. Every industry has good and bad films. But Bollywood audience instead of supporting the good films they nitpick bad films and troll it. Audience should also stop being over judgemental when it comes to Bollywood.

Prithviraj has found the formula to make Malayalam films more mainstream. He is my favourite actor amongst the current lot across all industries for multitasking. I am not from Kerala.
Hi brother I admit his vision as a director is splendid but as an actor he is terribly limited also what he does these days is mostly is selling whatever monetizable. Kamal Hassan is by far the best. Most versatile & talented actor. He has done so many brilliant roles. Nobody can match him in the Indian film industry. Each and every movie of his is a classic. He stirs emotions that no other actor can do. He is the biggest gift to the Indian film industry. Kamal + SPB + Illiyaraja = Blockbuster

@S A I think can make a one off here and there.. Just like a Tamil industry can make a feel good movie. But yeah, if they make a successful Magnum Opus and all the others fall into the cycle of making money leaving their trademark sensibility then it can be trouble.
They have already done it ...Drishyam is just beyond anyone's imagination & still one of the best of best d best but who knows someone might direct a big film in terms of box office collections it's just a matter of time & Jeetu Joseph is already ready with Drishyam 3 so let's hope for d best 🤞
@S A I totally understand your point... But let me tell you, in my little experience of whatever Indian cinema is... Malayalam cinema just need one big film to give it a positioning. Rorschach and Churuli are good films no doubt but by going by today's market dynamics the collection may not be that much.. Understanding majority Indian audience wants to hoot and cheer but "for a reason" (by the way I'm watching Kooman right now 30 minutes in) Give them 1 such film to draw you in, let it be the eye puller and then anyway you have these good rooted movies which will sustain them to watch Malayalam movies. Why do we want to emulate a Korean cinema.. If an RRR tries to be something else, hasn't the authenticity of the masala genre being wronged?? Please accept all kinds of cinema as cinema..
Have been on S S Rajamouli videos for the last couple of weeks. The man is truly a class apart from any other Indian filmmaker that I know of. The change that Kamal sir wanted to see regarding a mentorship, is so good. He truly breathes and lives for cinema. He didn’t care about his movie doing well, or bringing in money. He thought of the art developing. Truly a pioneer.

With such humidity even women's didn't use to wear jacket those times. Our kings use to cover their upper body completely with golden ornaments. 20:00 Regarding Prithvi's answer, it is exactly the less screentime of Mohanlal's character that gives meaning to the film. Stephen Nedumbally is a character of mystery and intrigue. The less we know about him, the more intriguing and interesting he becomes. Even though we see less of him, compared to the length of the film, his presence is everywhere in the film. And, it all comes down to the brilliant design of the screenplay by Murali Gopy along with Prithvi's direction.

As a Malayali, its an honour when Rajamouli garu praised the industry. ❤️
i mean its pretty obvious.
Malayalam movies and storytelling is truly amazing! Cinematography and Music are scintillating.
I am from ap, and i recently watched hridayam, it was amazing and daily I used to watch the movie clips atleast an hour, really it only possible with malayalis, hattsoff to u bros

Drishyam doesnt make money outside kerala, drishyam 2 was ott release..
@sae i know .
the hindi version's co producers are mohan lal and antony പെരുമ്പാവൂർ
So I think the reason why drishyam is not mentioned and Kamal sir already said it is because, if you think of it like there was a trend since the 80s, where most of the amazingly hit tamil, telegu, hindi cinemas were actually first made in Malayalam. It always used to go in a chain Malyalam - Tamil - Telugu - Hindi and they'd go on to be huge hits.
Drishyam was discussed during BR's Mega Round Table Interview. Anurag Kashyap mentioned that it was remade in Chinese & collected 200 million dollars! 🤯
Once Rajamouli Sir did mention that he truly admires the Drishyam Franchise and that he thinks that is great work
Malayalam cinema should definitely get more exposure..it just saddens me that almost all my friends have never seen a Malayalam film, and they just loved the Hindi remake of "Drishyam" so much, i wanna show them there are plenty of masterpieces from Malayalam cinema they're missing out.
why not drop some suggestions here bro, maybe not many but a lot of people might read something here and read it.

HOPE!

Let's wish it happens soon.

Understanding majority Indian audience wants to hoot and cheer but "for a reason" (by the way I'm watching Kooman right now 30 minutes in)
Give them 1 such film to draw you in, let it be the eye puller and then anyway you have these good rooted movies which will sustain them to watch Malayalam movies.
Why do we want to emulate a Korean cinema.. If an RRR tries to be something else, hasn't the authenticity of the masala genre being wronged??

Ps: I LOVED this recent movie called Yashoda, I sincerely urge everyone to go check it out. THATS THE STUFF, JUST DAMN.
They should have invited Sudha Kongara
I mean she is making the biggest Indian movie(pan world) right now. So the credit of first pan world film goes to a female filmmaker.
Prithviraj has such great understanding of cinema that he's able to hold his own against such veterans, and his opinions really stand out.
More an understanding about logistics of cinema than cinema i would say
He was spot on about Pathaan. Hindi cinema made a miraculous comeback in 2023.
Still majority of people treat Lucifer as a mass commercial entertainer, without exploring the subtleties of characters, script n portrayals used 😏

@@PremChand-Salva yeah. It's not the usual commercial mass film. The film has layers. The story is layered, the characters are not one dimensional. Each one has their own motivations and depth.

There are many underrated movies in Tamil cinema. You better watch those movies, if you are interested in story and screenplay wise. Then you can't say acting wise b'coz every industry have that.
