Such lovely memories of the start of a fabulous cruise! Really fun night and agree Tamarind was fabulous. Look forward to going back to Half Moon Cay next!
That was the start of a wonderful cruise experience. We are sure you both must have thought we were mad as we didn’t even know our own cabin. We usually aren’t so clueless - but the lack of internet left us in a jam. Thanks for the sail-away fun on your verandah!
This was fun! Chad ordered the exact same three courses at Tamarind as Jill, and it was one of the best meals of his life! Just perfect! Looking forward to the rest of your series. Congrats again on the grandchild!❤
Hello Cruising Canucks Team Two power Cruising Teams couples on the same ship .. that’s to much FUN 🎉 together 🤣 bundle in one. My favorite cruise line ..🚢 Hope we cross on a Holland Enjoyed watching Cheers 🥂 Congrats on the GRAND new Canucks addition 😊
Oh what a great start, this is going to be fun to watch. OMG, Paul is hilarious. When we were on Nieuw Statendam our favourite restaurant was Tamarind, just loved it.
Great video as always! Loved the trip down from the UP! And who can resist the fun of downtown Romulus MI! Seriously, it looks like Metro airport has really improved since my days as a Michigander!
@@CruisingCanucks thanks, we will be experiencing that as well on our HAL cruise to Hawaii next January, a first for us, first time with Have It All, first visit to Hawaii!
What a treat . Two of my favorite cruise YTers , Paul&Carole (looking forward to our QE cruise where we've been well educated watching so many of their Cunard videos) and Cruising Canucks . Your previous NA videos were great . The best review of the cabanas . We picked Corfu . Our "butler" was Paul and he was very helpful . Looking forward to the rest of your cruise .
Yes, the heated Jacuzzi is much better than the swimming pool! Did you find the adults-only area? Similar to Solarium concept on Royal Caribbean.....was one of the best kept secrets on Rotterdam....shhhh!
We aren’t fans of the adults only as there’s very little shade and can get Smokey. Also one HAL cruise we were bullied to get out of the pool with our drinks and go elsewhere (by a fellow guest). Now the RCL solarium has some shade and a much more relaxing feel than the open areas on the aft of HAL ships. We wish the aft area of HAL would be used in the evening for events - it goes a little wasted in the evening.
Perfect timing (or almost, as just now joining)…2.5 hour flight layover in Vegas from Colorado Springs. Heading to Oceanside/Camp Pendleton to visit my son, daughter in-law, and now 1 y/o granddaughter for a few weeks. Enjoying the watch.
hello Fellow Canadians ,, we sailed with you on this trip in Cabin 5160.. Walked by your Magnet everyday.. Watching your Video to see if you caught us .. Cheers Colleen
We were a little surprised - since we'd cruised HAL before at March Break and had never had this many children. We did hear that there was a promotion that children cruise free.
Hey Flying Scotsman - would have thought for sure you’d back your Carnival ships for best. Our experience raising kids on cruise vacations always loved Carnival for that. They were great!
Main Dining Room, Buffet, Dive-In Burger, and NY Pizza. We think all the specialty restaurants are closed at lunch. All restaurants are open for dinner.
Good for you! Tamarind would be a top recommendation from my research and experience. a wide range of choices from Asian cuisines and VERY good service. Pizza, burgers, icecream and fries, please get out of the way! Just curious about what you said about the cheesecake: did you say yucca? I was not sure that I heard correctly, but I immediately thought of the Spanish for cassava. That would certainly be a great alternative to wheat, which is acidic and allergenic for most people (whether they realise it or not....though their waistlines always do [wink])
Were you able to choose your time-slot for boarding? Or was it whatever was assigned by Holland America? Royal Caribbean's website gives guests a list of all available time-slots to choose up to several weeks before boarding, but I did not see this option with Holland America's website.....
@@CruisingCanucks , next time you cruise Holland you should definitely have the app on your phone. You don’t need the paper copy at all. We take one as a backup, but haven’t used one for at least the past year. In the other hand, your solution was creative!
Did you not get a little boarding slip at the terminal? For those who choose Guaranteed Cabin (which means that the cruise-line will assign a room at boarding time), the employees in the terminal will confirm your reservation and then give you a little slip just before you go aboard....and that is what will tell you your finally assigned room-number. Since you mentioned the Rotterdam as a ship that you experienced in year 2022, I can say that is what was done with the Rotterdam last year.
Nope. We just used the wrong boarding pass and we had no problem getting on the ship. The reservation was likely the same - just a cabin change. So that’s how the bar code scanned no problem. We didn’t know we didn’t know our cabin until we went to order a drink onboard.
What fun is that? We like solving our own problems if we can. Especially when we cause them. We always have our digital docs as backup but our internet wouldn't connect. If we has no luck with our adventure we could have headed down to guest services. We found it, had fun and created a memory.
I had that crispy duck also and it was fabulous. Oh, and the shrimp and lobster potstickers. Our favorite HAL restaurant.
I love dualing pianos. ❤
We do also. Always a fun way to spend a evening.🎤🎶
Being a grandparent is awesome! Sure miss those baby days as the youngest is a junior in high school!
It's very exciting!

Thanks so much. This was the start of a great cruise - lot's more to come!! :)
Another neat video and really cool seeing Paul and Carol with yous and also a HUGE congratulations on being grandparents.
Thanks so much! It was a blast with Paul and Carole.
We booked an aft cabin for our January cruise. 8th deck

There's a lot more Paul to come in our videos as we had a great time!

It really is! We like DTW much more than Toronto for sure!
Did you have the Have It All Pkg with HAL on this cruise? HAL is our cruise line of choice for sure.
Yes we had the Have It All.
@@CruisingCanucks thanks, we will be experiencing that as well on our HAL cruise to Hawaii next January, a first for us, first time with Have It All, first visit to Hawaii!
So much fun! Thanks for letting us tag along! I wonder how much time your cabin steward spent creating those worm towel animals :)
Probably less time than if he made a snake towel animal.

Enough time to not see anyone winning. Besides, I spent more than my fair share on the Caribbean Princess 3 weeks ago…LoL

Very cool! Enjoy.🥂
OMG just realized Canuck isn't their last name!!
Thanks for another great video. I do live HAL
Interesting that there are lots of kids on a Holland cruise. I think many choose Holland because there’s so few. So much for relaxation.
We were a little surprised - since we'd cruised HAL before at March Break and had never had this many children. We did hear that there was a promotion that children cruise free.
HAL have one of the best kids’ programs, who should not be a surprise.
Hey Flying Scotsman - would have thought for sure you’d back your Carnival ships for best. Our experience raising kids on cruise vacations always loved Carnival for that. They were great!
We just got off Nieuw Amsterdam on Sunday
How was it? We heard the cruise director and many of the musicians were swapped out after our cruise.
Are you using a drone on the ship?
No, we are using an Insta360 camera with a 10 foot selfie stick.
What restaurants are open on embarkation day?
Main Dining Room, Buffet, Dive-In Burger, and NY Pizza. We think all the specialty restaurants are closed at lunch. All restaurants are open for dinner.
Oka and Westly are great butlers for the cabana
WE had Oka and Manuel. They were great!
Do you pay for those cabanas on the Lido? How much do they run?
$199 per week.

It was Yuzu cheesecake. No banana split but Mrs.Canuck enjoyed it
Do you bid for upgrades or just wait to see if an upgrade comes your way?
Just responded to an email offer. Not sure HAL does bidding for upgrades.
Were you able to choose your time-slot for boarding? Or was it whatever was assigned by Holland America? Royal Caribbean's website gives guests a list of all available time-slots to choose up to several weeks before boarding, but I did not see this option with Holland America's website.....
HAL assigns a time.
I’m guessing more kids aboard as it would’ve been March break, perhaps?
For sure - but all our previous HAL cruises were during March break or school holidays. So this was more than the usual more during those times.
My hubby discovered Crown Royal on our Rockies road trip back in 2016. Do you know by any chance if Princess ships sailing from the US stock it?
No luck for us finding Crown Royal on 2 Princess ships over the last year.
@@CruisingCanucks OK thanks.
Boarding pass in the app?
Unfortunately no. We only had paper copies with us but our cabin was upgraded after we had left our house for the trip.

We have had it on our phone ever since. Lesson learned.

Lots of families but it's also March break
We thought it was odd as we cruised HAL before on March break and during school holidays without so many children.
Why did you not ask at check in, what cabin you had. I would not have if traipsed around looking for my cabin..
